Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals

Mission: "Helping Hearts Equine Rescue is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit animal welfare organization incorporated in the State of New Jersey. We are dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and placement of equines in need; assisting equines in situations of neglect, abuse or threat of slaughter located in, but not necessarily limited to Monmouth, Middlesex and Ocean Counties - in our home state of New Jersey. To educate the public regarding the standards of care required to maintain an equine as a riding partner and/or companion animal in a humane manner."

Programs: Our Goals: (1) Accept into our program equines in need who have been victims of abuse, neglect or abandonment; (2) Assist in the placement of equines under the care of private owners who can no longer maintain them; (3) Provide necessary management, veterinary and farrier care for those equines under our protection; (4) Rehabilitate and adopt out equines to suitable homes as sport-horse prospects; pleasure riding prospects or as retirement/companion animals; (5) Obtain sponsorships for those equines who maintain a permanent residency within the auspices of our organization; (6) To provide all animals under our care with a comfortable and dignified existence without pain or suffering. If and when physical and medical circumstances no longer allow that comfortable life; to let them go gently and kindly with a humane veterinary-assisted euthanasia.

Helping Hearts Equine Rescue has helped to give so many horses, mules, and donkeys that second or even third opportunity at life. A life that offers them a chance to find a new loving home through adoption or a forever home right there on the farm-depending on their circumstances.
Lisa Post, founder, does an amazing job providing vet care, safety, and love to these beloved animals. As a volunteer for many years, I’ve seen first hand just how much love and care this rescue has given and continues to give.
Helping Hearts Equine Rescue is amazing in every way...from the volunteers to all of the precious animals in need that find their way to this farm.

Helping Hearts is off the chart when it comes to a rating of just five stars. This rescue is totally committed to helping and saving horses. I have followed this rescue since it was founded and have witnessed first hand the compassion and dedication of everyone that is involved. The regular visits to Camelot auction to rescue the unfortunate horses that no one wanted to take home and knowing the sad thing was that these horses all had a home at one time and were given up. Owners that could no longer take care of their horses or just did not want them any longer for whatever reason... and Helping Hearts was there to give them another chance to find a home. Lisa Post, the founder, has done so many good things to improve the welfare of horses beginning with her vision to create an organization to rescue horses from the terrible fate of slaughter to the current status of Helping Hearts Equine Rescue as a non-profit. Then there are the many individuals and professionals that have devoted their time because they want to and because they believe in the wonderful things that are taking place here. The pregnant mare that was heading to slaughter, rescued because Helping Hearts was there, the horse that was dropped on the side of a NJ road rescued because Helping Hearts was alerted and immediately rose to the task of rescuing this horse. I could go on and on about the horses that are alive today because of Helping Hearts or those horses that crossed the "rainbow bridge" but were able to spend their last days in a green pasture and warm stall surrounded by loving and caring people. THIS is what Helping Hearts Equine Rescue is all about. Please take time to visit the webpage and read about our horses: http://hher.webs.com/

Helping Hearts is a soft place to fall for equines in need. In a world where people don’t value their senior horses and are looking to “ get rid” of them, HH takes in those it can. It’s a small but might rescue that uses your donations to help horses, mules, and donkeys in need.

Helping Hearts Equine rescue is the real thing. I've been a volunteer now 8 years with Lisa Post, president. She takes in the starved...abused...the just " put it down" horses..mules...cats and gives them a whole new life . Also not to mention all the amazing volunteers she has on board. The facility is heaven...Lisa Post is a teacher...leader... community supporter and most of all a gift to animals in fire need.

Helping Hearts is one rescue that truly lives up to its name. Rescued horses (and other animals) get more than the care they need to thrive. They also get the love they need to blossom. The stories of rescues are amazing as are the results. Not too long ago, Lisa rescued Romeo, a nearly-starved and horribly neglected Thoroughbred. She posted pictures of his progress as he recovered under her diligent and knowledgeable care. Now, shiny coated, fleshed out, and started on his basic training, Romeo has been adopted and is heading for a new a loving home. His story is just one of many telling the true devotion of Helping Hearts.

I am continually in awe when I see the care, love, and attention the rescues at Helping Hearts receive each and every day. Lisa Post and her wonderful volunteers assure happy, healthy lives for the horses they save. Not only are the horses' physical needs met, but their emotional needs are also a priority. Treats, affection, and human contact are a daily part of each rescue's life and I have seen many horses rehabilitated in body, mind and spirit by this exceptional care. I wish there were even more stars to award.

Lisa Post is absolutely an amazing person. She has done wonders for all types of equines. Lisa has worked hard to bring each one to their potential. She has also made sure all of her resumes had the best quality of life.
She personally helped a very special horse "Laddy" when he was in much need. Me and lad have some history so this one really touched my heart and I am forever greatful to her.

We had a horse she rescued. He had been starved and she brought him back. He was exactly what she described him to be. I also know she will take any horse back if you can no longer care for it. The care given to the horses is excellent and she treats them with kindness, compassion, and love....as if they are all her own personal horses.

We adopted an OTTB from Helping Hearts. He had been badly neglected and they brought him back to health. The last thing I thought we wanted was a Thoroughbred for my novice rider husband. Lisa assured us he was a husband horse. We checked him out and found him to be perfect; exactly as described. I have followed Lisa and Helping Hearts since then and she has rescued numerous horses and gives them the best of care. Before adopting them out she makes sure what the horse can do and is very clear on any needs of care or handling that it might be. She cares for the horses under her care as if they were her own special horse. The facility is excellent and well maintained.

HHER is the forever home for several neglect cases. There I fell in love with an elderly mule, the victim of severe over work by her owners. Lisa brought her into rescue where she spent the rest of her days. She was beloved by everyone, and the time I spent with her, and the other equines, was wonderful.

Helping Hearts is the most caring, knowledgeable, and professional rescue I have ever experienced.
In addition to taking on the most challenging rescue situations, Lisa Post and her team share their knowledge freely and educate people who want to do the best they can for the animals.
As a horse person with a long career in non- profit work, I can honestly say this is the best I’ve seen. And I happily drive an hour and a half to be part of the barn family!

Once again I feel compelled to let everyone know what a great rescue Helping Hearts Equine Rescue is. Lisa puts everything into helping the horses, ponies, mules, and donkeys who are lucky to have found safe harbor on her farm. I hear about and witness rescues who fail in their missions to animals, but Lisa pours every donation into the rescue. She's keeps in contact with her donors, like me, and never fails to be open about how her charges are doing. Lisa and Helping Hearts is totally dedicated to making life better for their rescues. I'm proud to help in a very small way as a monthly donor.

I am a donor to Helping Hearts Equine Rescue. They first came to my attention when the founder, Lisa Post, facilitated the rescue of countless horses through the old Camelot Horse Network on Facebook. I found my first horse, whom I've since retired to a life of leisure, through Camelot. Later, looking for a reliable rescue to donate feed sack coupons to, both a fellow horse rescuer and my equine dentist suggested HHER saying every single penny goes right to their equines. How can you beat that?! I've since made many donations big and small knowing Lisa and HHER work tirelessly to help horses, donkeys and mules get a safe landing and a new lease on life. They get whatever they need for however long it takes to get a chance to be adopted to the best homes or they find life long sanctuary with Helping Hearts Equine Rescue. And I feel great knowing I can be a very small part of a second life for these sweet souls.

Helping Hearts Equine Rescue is a wonderful example of responsible and sustainable animal care. They do a professional job on a daily basis for all their animals in need, but more importantly they have structured their program to plan for the lifetime of each animal and they know their limits. This means that they will be able to be there not just for the immediate need but for the life of the animals that they rescue. I applaud the care and planning that goes into each and every intake and their commitment to excellence.

I started volunteering with HHER several years ago. Keller, the first rescue that I helped with ,was a partially blind, deaf and elderly pony. I developed a bond with him. He would prance around after I groomed him and sometimes trot over to see me. He lived out his long life well cared for and surrounded by love on Lisa’s beautiful farm often side by side with his best friend, Simon a rescued Amish draft horse. I have been lucky to help provide TLC with many of Lisa’s rescues including a Clydesdale named Bentley and a Peruvian Paso Fino named Gaitor. Lisa takes in horses that have been mistreated, neglected and often left to be auctioned for slaughter. At HHER they are rehabilitated with love and proper medical care. They learn to trust again. Lisa finds them good homes. She also takes equines that are not adoptable due to health conditions and lets them live out their lives with the dignity, love and care that they deserve. Lisa one of the most hard working people I know but to her, horse rescue is her life and passion.

I have seen first hand the compassion, dedication, love and commitment from the onset of receiving a needy resident to the completion and adoption of a for legged family member. Love, experience, dedication and provision of all medical elements needed is the standard for this worthy Rescue. Lisa, you and your staff are amazing and I love your for what you did by rescuing Mason and allowing me to adopt him only after you brought him back to good health. I've watched Lisa rescue difficult case after difficult case. Every soul benefits from her experience, knowledge, and deep love of horses. Recently, she brought in a horse that I once knew. He is in rough shape but she fights for him every day. I'm so grateful Lisa and Helping Hearts Equine Rescue is there for the most desperate.
