Review for Zumas , Littleton, CO, USA
I used to attend groundworking and liberty lessons and would occasionally volunteer here The barn itself is beautiful. Pretty white fences and great views. But the horses are not in the best condition. I know it's a rescue and you anticipate to see at least some imperfections with the horses there.
But if they are buying horses in not the best conditions you would assume that the horses would recover and start healing after being "rescued" by Zumas.
Lets consider the Montana three: three ponies brought from auction. Now Zumas held classes around them so they were very socialized for over a year I saw them grow but due to the amount of horses at this location I saw a decline in their care. They went months without being groomed during shedding season. Due to work and family emergencies I stopped attending the baby work classes around November, When I came back to start up lessons with them in March all three horses had thick matted fur along their bellies. It took over an hour and even at the end of the class we did not get all the mats and pure feces and mud out. I finally had to call it a day, after packing up their grooming kit to put away I passed the information along to staff and owners regarding the condition of the Montana three and they pushed the blame onto me, for not taking more baby walk and grooms to keep more on top of it. Mind you I am not a paid employee it was not my responsibility to care for the horses they bought. They seem to blame anyone but themselves.
Sorry you feel that way; the horses do get long coats over the winter, and when they lay down in the snow, the fur mats. We do the best with the funds we have to ensure the herd is healthy, hooves trimmed, vet care, worming protocols, sand, and fecal slides performed monthly. We do rely on our community to assist with some of the noncritical care items like grooming. No one should have blamed you, for that I personally apologize for that.
