I first encountered Nowzad Dogs in 2016 upon adopting a cat from them. The cat had been rescued from the streets of Kabul being only several days old. He was nursed to health at the charity and came to me at about 8 months old. That adoption made me a member of the Nowzad Family of caretakers, fundraisers, and adopters. A truly spectacular group of people. I followed their activities and made donations to help fund their critical work. Prior to the Taliban takeover in 2021, I asked to adopt a dog from those in Nowzad Shelter. The dog had also been rescued as a puppy from the streets of Kabul. Like many I followed the Operation Ark evacuation of personnel and pets and was so impressed by the "must do/can do" attitude and transparency of the organization. I have continued to support Nowzad and currently fundraise by conducting auctions in the US. Monies raised support their critical work in Afghanistan and Ukraine. Truly a shining example of how a not-for-profit organization should be operated in the best interests of pets and people.
