Mission: To relieve the suffering of animals in Afghanistan; including Soldier companion animals, working equines,stray and abandoned dogs and cats and all other animals in need of care and attention, and to provide and maintain rescue, rehabilitation and education facilities for the care and treatment of such animals with no voice but ours. Nowzad Dogs is 501c3 registered. The aim of the charity is to improve the welfare of the animals of Afghanistan; which includes humanely reducing the stray dog population which in turn will reduce the incidents of canine rabies, provide animal welfare education for the Afghan people and develop training programs to improve the lives of working animals.
Results: • The only officially recognised Animal Welfare Organisation operating on a permanent basis in Afghanistan, including: - The only small animal shelter in Afghanistan (located in Kabul) - The only fully professional small animal clinic in Afghanistan (located in Kabul) - Two fully qualified Afghan vets (almost certainly the most qualified vets in Afghanistan) - Nine clinic and shelter workers - An increased number of local Afghan people rescuing and bringing stray or injured animals to our clinic - An increased number of local Afghan people adopting rescued neutered and vaccinated animals from us under our successful Afghan adoption scheme - An increased number of local Afghan people bringing in their own animals to be treated, neutered and vaccinated. - We are currently in the process of establishing an injury prevention and treatment programme for working equines - Vital education scheme which was successfully launched with the Wetnose Animal Aid ‘Kick a Ball not a Puppy’ campaign in Kabul - Establishing a TNVR (trap, neuter, vaccinate, release) programme to reduce the numbers of unwanted animals and the incidence of disease, particularly rabies. • We have reunited over 650 dogs and cats with their serving soldiers from all over the world, including the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, Holland and South Africa. Receiving International press coverage and continued interest and support from these countries. • Pen Farthing, founder of Nowzad, has written two best-selling books highlighting the plight of animals in Afghanistan and the work of the charity 'One Dog At A Time' and 'No Place Like Home' • Nowzad has been named ‘Just Giving’s ‘Charity of the Year’ 2013 • Nowzad has also been chosen as the British Veterinary Nursing Association’s (BVNA) Charity of the Year 2013/2014 • Nowzad Dogs is also the Animal Transportation Association charity of the year 2013

Direct beneficiaries per year: 100+ US soldiers reunited with their much loved dog or cat that they've adopted whilst serving in Afghanistan. Neutered/given veterinary treatment to 300+ animals in Afghanistan. Adopted out 10+ rescue dogs/cats to loving Afghan families. 2 Nowzad rescues become service dogs for US veterans (...just the beginning!) ...and so much more!
