As a private piano teacher wondering how I might address, in some small way, the inequity of who can & can't afford music lessons, I was looking online, when I found the MusicLink Foundation. I signed up to volunteer and started teaching my first student in March of 2023, and am also currently serving as a regional coordinator. With my students, I use a few online learning tools for sight-reading, composition, and effective practice, and MusicLink's Grass Roots Grant program helped me to purchase the technology needed for my MusicLink student, effectively removing the barriers to his being able to participate fully in lessons, group work and practice at home. I really enjoy working with this student and his family, and feel grateful that through MusicLink, I am able to pass on the opportunity that I was given to learn piano, in a more equitable way. I am moved by the mission and accomplishments of the MusicLink Foundation, and impressed with its organization and professionalism, and am so grateful that it is doing this important work.
