Review for Shakespeare & Company, Inc., Lenox, MA, USA
Both my children participated in the Shakespeare in the Schools program, both at the elementary level and in high school. It was one of their MOST important resources to help them fit into a school where the arts have suffered due to budget cuts. They made lifelong friends, were able to use language in new and exciting ways and I have seen the effects of this program on kids with esteem issues. I really admire the program the involves high risk teenagers empowered by what they can say and the attention they can get in life through participation in theater. I think Shakespeare & Co. has innovated new ways of making theater part of the life of Berkshire residents and all in a very economical, and cost effective way. The loss of this company or a reduction in their programs would effect kids and families at many economic levels throughout the county.

For over 15 years, I have experienced the results of the Fall Festival of Shakespeare where kids from school across the state participate in a three day theater marathon. My son also attended the Riotous Youth summer camps over a few years.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Increase the funding for the Shakespeare in the school programs to insure that there is sufficient staff to provide more schools the opportunity.
