Review for Shakespeare & Company, Inc., Lenox, MA, USA
I've been an avid theatre goer for years, a performer myself, and a theater teacher for NYC public schools. Last summer I discovered Shakespeare and Co.....what took me so long! For those of us living in the Hudson Valley, this gem of a company is an invaluable resource of high quality theatre.
I've seen several productions, Richard III, one part of The Women of Will, and The mystery of Irma Vep. Quality work all around. Women of Will in particular was a remarkable experience. I learned a lot about Shakespeare the writer, learned a lot about the canon of plays, (especially the rarely done histories) and was amazed at the acting. Though only snippets of the plays were performed, each scene felt as satifying as seeing a full production, so deeply were the actors invested in their roles.
