Review for Project Open Hand, San Francisco, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I've been associated with Project Open Hand for many years. Friends have received meals from the organization when they've been sick. I've volunteered in their grocery center in the Tenderloin and been told by clients coming in for groceries that this place has kept them alive, that they come here and feel really cared for. I know people who have volunteered for over 20 years and come every week to work in the kitchen or deliver meals. The staff is just awesome, really dedicated. It's clear that it's not just a job for them. They put their heart into it. I would invite anyone to go and take a look for themselves or even volunteer. It feels good!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Friends receiving services, myself as a volunteer and seeing what happens every day.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Being able to see the effects of my work right away. Food is so tangible and so necessary. When you bring a meal to a person who's homebound and alone, and you can make that connection, you're really changed.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

All the staff are really dedicated and know their job well. They do whatever it takes to make sure everybody has the food they need every day.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

It could help even more people who are hungry, or old and poor, maybe expand their mission to others in need or into other geographic areas where there's also great need.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2010

Role:  Volunteer & Grocery center, meal delivery.
