Review for Serenity Equine Rescue and Rehabilitation, Maple Valley, WA, USA
I have been volunteering with Serenity Equine Rescue for 10 months now. It is a pleasure to spend a few hours there weekly helping take care of the horses and maintain a safe environment for them to heal to their full potential. Serenity tailors care to each individual equine they take in, from their veterinary care to their diets, but most importantly they provide a safe and loving environment. It is overwhelmingly an incredible place for animals to come heal from a life of neglect and abuse. I appreciate that Serenity's goal is to rehab horses and ponies for a loving life of adoption, but they also recognize some residents are forever residents due to their difficult histories. Those that are forever residents remain because they cannot recover from their lifetime of neglect in any other place than one that understands then as well as Serenity.
For me, Serenity has provided a learning environment for a beginner lover of horses, to learn how to provide an optimal environment, feed to specific dietary needs (including age), as well as how to handle horses safely. I have taken each week as an opportunity to grow my knowledge when it comes to the challenges and joys of proximity to horses. The guidance I have been given into adjusting the small details of equine handling and care have made me a better, more aware caretaker.
Serenity provides a learning environment for all its volunteers to further their passions in helping animals. The horse handling and grooming classes, owner Patricia teaches are wonderful resources.
The dedication of my fellow volunteers, many of them who have been there for years (some over 10 years), speaks to the positive environment.
