Review for Serenity Equine Rescue and Rehabilitation, Maple Valley, WA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Serenity Equine Rescue was a Godsend for myself and my horse Hera. I rescued Hera on Feb. 13, 2022. The day before she was going to be sent back to the auction and in my mind, the meat truck. I hadn't planned on purchasing a horse that day but through horse telepathy, she begged me to help her. Hera has been abused her whole life. She was approximately 14 with I rescued her. She had a indention in her nose where a halter had been left on her and her bone had actually grown around it. It was sad and she was such a charismatic and wonderful creature. After purchasing her I spent a few months and thousands of dollars in training fees trying to get her situated so I could find a good home for her. My trainer and I finally determined that Hera was not interested in being ridden anymore. This was difficult because I was moving home to Georgia and where was I going to find someone in Washington to care my horse? After looking around I found Serenity. I was so lucky that they had a spot open. When I took Patricia to meet Hera I was worried since Hera didn't like new people but to my surprise she went right up to Patricia and started cuddling her. The grounds of Serenity are beautiful and I knew Hera was going to be well taken care of. I went to visit her 3 days after her move. When I called for Hera she began walking towards me as she always did; however, about 3 steps into her walk she stopped and looked around. She then detoured and went up to one of the volunteers cleaning her run. I was shocked as Hera always came to me but I think she thought I was there to take her away and it was clear she did not want to leave Serenity. She had finally found the home she had always wanted with a warm barn, fresh hay and friends to play with. I will always be grateful to Patricia and Serenity for caring for Hera.
