I had recently retired early when I learned about Sister Corps, and was able to go to Louisiana to work Ida recovery with this organization (3/2022). I worked debris removal, which was hard work in the heat and humidity, but WOW, the all women crew I worked with were incredibly hard workers and fun. We worked to help families who were in need of help, and they were so appreciative and kind, and so resilient. I have since gone on to a few other projects with Sister Corps, and will continue to do so as long as I am able. Such a strong, supportive, kind and capable group of women. It is wonderful to be able to help others as well as learn new skills such as drywall installation and carpentry work. I loved being able to work hard, tow off a load of debris, get it to the dump and come back for more to help others, all while having fun and laughing and while I am also being taken care of by others in this women’s group that gets things done!
