I have volunteered with this group and have been touched to tears by the kindness, generosity, love and willingness to help by so many women. I helped several years ago paint a house for a fellow sister whose husband was very ill. He had been feeling terrible that he wasn't able to do what was needed anymore and his wife, a SOTF member was working full time at work and caring for him at home. One of the sisters heard about this and took charge and planned the work event. The number of women that showed up with supplies and paint clothes was remarkable. There was one lady in her 20's but the rest of us were in our 60's to mid 70's. Through rain, scaffolding issues to get to the peaks, we got that whole house painted, a large picnic table stained and a smaller building painted in two days. Tired but joyful we all were. What a blessing to be able to work hard for someone that needed the help and were relieved the job was done. Sister-Corps funded the majority of the project, what a blessing that was. We all brought food and had pot lucks and ate well. There was so much laughter and fun while we worked. We all met new friends at that event and still stay in touch. I will remember this project the rest of my life, sore muscles and all.
Another project that I helped with was the Luggage of Love Luncheon. We had a lunch and at least 12 women showed up with their cars full of necessities to be donated to a domestic abuse shelter. Most of us didn't even know each other (but we do now!) I was quite shocked at the amount of items that were donated that day, it took two car loads to deliver them. The generosity of the women in Sister-corps is totally unbelievable. You ask and it will get done.
