Review for Global Sanctuary For Elephants, Brentwood, TN, USA
Global Sanctuary for Elephants (GSE) is a true sanctuary that puts the well being and health of the elephants first, to let them be seen and heard and heal, respected and encouraged to make their own choices (often for the first time in their lives). The transformation of each elephant they rescue from horrible situations is profound and a joy to witness, they keep us updated on their antics. The founders have decades of experience with elephants and their first sanctuary in Brazil has 2,800 acres with streams, ponds and trees galore and separate areas for Asian, African and male elephants (lots of room to grow). They have well trained caretakers, staff, a full time vet who uses holistic as well as other modalities and the founders live on the property with much of their time spent as caregivers. GSE is accredited by the Global Federation for Animal Sanctuaries and in 2022 was awarded their Outstanding Sanctuary Award winner. They are transparent in finances and received 100 out of 100 in Charity Navigator and people can donate with confidence. The founders are upfront and honest with their followers about who each elephant is and how they are doing ~ their joys and struggles, and the frustrations of waiting years to rescue an elephant with govt red tape. The sanctuary interacts with followers on social media, answering as many questions as they can and we are a diverse community from all over the world. They educate those that want to learn about elephants, wild life, global issues, zoos and circuses. I have followed GSE since 2016 when their first 2 elephants arrived and it has changed my life for the better and how I view the world. I feel honored to be able to support them, follow the lives of the elephants and to have the opportunity to get to know Scott and Kat Blaise on social media and their passion for elephants and doing things honestly and ethically. I recommend their podcasts to understand the difficulties they encountered getting the Brazil sanctuary started in a country foreign to them and the wonderful people there and around the world who believe in them and their dream and helped make it a reality.
