They do such incredible work transforming the lives of so many elephants who once suffered in captivity.
Global Sanctuary for Elephants exemplifies the highest standards for what a true sanctuary could and should strive for. It is not open to the public, and there are only a few members on the team who have access to the elephants -- nobody is intruding on their home and the elephants can heal and live in peace. They have the freedom each day to choose where they go and what they do, and their space is very vast and full of natural stimulation -- swimming ponds, mud wallows, trees, tall grasses, and streams. The caregiving team responds to their needs with the highest respect and care. Any captive elephant that ends up here is extraordinarily lucky.
I love feeling like I am getting to know the girls and who they are as individuals. I also appreciate them sharing some of the struggles as well as all of the good stuff. It helps understand what captivity does to elephants and how much work goes into both their emotional and physical healing.
Global Sanctuary for Elephants is a very interesting page, where you can learn about elephants, what captivity means for these animals, the importance of a right habitat and you can daily follow the beloved guests of the Sanctuary. You'll love both: elephants and the fantastic people that take care of them.
These people at Global Sanctuary for Elephants are totally dedicated for the wellbeing of the elephants in their care. I personally can not praise them enough. This is the closest elephants can get to being back in the wild. The staff are vigilant on any health issues that any of the girls may have and instantly, if anything might seem wrong they tend to it straight away. If there were only more sanctuaries like this.

The dedication of GSE for the Asian elephants there is totally commendable. Scott and Kat are great at keeping us informed of how the elephants are doing and we feel a part of everything, from the rescues to how they are daily. I feel part of the family even though I live thousands of miles away. We can learn so much from the information they give, the whats and why any treatment they give the elephants and how they react to the given treatment are things many of us wouldn't be aware of. Now to think they will be rescuing African elephants is just so amazing, as they have different needs to the Asian ones. We will be learning so much more once they arrive. The elephants live as elephants, to roam free without human interference, never made to do anything they don't want to do. I can't praise their work enough
Amazing work for recovered elephants from harmful situations improving their life's at sanctuary
Elephants are let roam free and very well taken care off.
The amazing people at the Sanctuary are giving the most precious gift to all the rescued elephants: FREEDOM!
An exceptional organisation. I have been donating since day one and will continue to do so. Their work is not only life changing for the elephants they rescue but they always conduct themselves with professionalism, decency, transparency and reliability.
GSE is amazing. They are true to the word sanctuary. Always putting the elephants needs first in their own time. I have learned so much. I love how everything is explained., from the how and why, to the elephant "parties". I think I've even learned about myself. Thank you GSE for all you do!
GSE Brazil is dedicated to giving the girls a peaceful place where they can become elephants again. They get all the individual care and attention as needed to heal and feel whole. They welcome any animals that come their way. Kat and Scott are incredible people who dedicate themselves fully to the sanctuary. I’m lucky to have a place like GSE Brazil. I get to be a part of their world from across the globe
The Global Sanctuary for Elephants is a rare source of hope and inspiration in a world that can seem so dark at times. I am so grateful that the captive elephants of South America have a chance at a more natural life, of friendship, love, and autonomy. To witness Kat and Scott work tirelessly to provide a better life for these magnificent beings is such a blessing! Thank you Kat and Scott and crew for all you do.
Came across this incredible organization about 6 months ago and was absolutely blown away by their integrity and transparency and by their philosophy on captive elephant care. Being part of this mission truly makes me feel like a better and more cinscious human than I was before. ♥️
Value individuality, autonomy, and transparency more than the other sanctuaries I follow. They do great work and keep their supporters connected and involved with the elephants' daily lives.
GSE has captured our hearts and minds through their unending dedication to their resident elephants - and those to come. They make time to educate and inform through social media and the podcast - as well as lift our spirits. The work of GSE offers us the opportunity to support their massive undertaking through contributions large and small and encourages us to consider our interconnectivity and the wellbeing of all life. I am grateful for the virtual window into Global Sanctuary Brazil and will continue to send my support from New Mexico, USA along with my deepest admiration for the consideration of these magnificent beings who have always deserved this care.
Global Sanctuary for Elephants is a fantastic nonprofit helping serve the needs of abused and neglected elephants by bringing them to sanctuary. Despite no public access to the sanctuary and being thousands of miles away, GSE’s staff do a great job of allowing the public to form a connection with these great animals through storytelling, photos, and videos.
Global Sanctuary for Elephants (GSE) is a true sanctuary that puts the well being and health of the elephants first, to let them be seen and heard and heal, respected and encouraged to make their own choices (often for the first time in their lives). The transformation of each elephant they rescue from horrible situations is profound and a joy to witness, they keep us updated on their antics. The founders have decades of experience with elephants and their first sanctuary in Brazil has 2,800 acres with streams, ponds and trees galore and separate areas for Asian, African and male elephants (lots of room to grow). They have well trained caretakers, staff, a full time vet who uses holistic as well as other modalities and the founders live on the property with much of their time spent as caregivers. GSE is accredited by the Global Federation for Animal Sanctuaries and in 2022 was awarded their Outstanding Sanctuary Award winner. They are transparent in finances and received 100 out of 100 in Charity Navigator and people can donate with confidence. The founders are upfront and honest with their followers about who each elephant is and how they are doing ~ their joys and struggles, and the frustrations of waiting years to rescue an elephant with govt red tape. The sanctuary interacts with followers on social media, answering as many questions as they can and we are a diverse community from all over the world. They educate those that want to learn about elephants, wild life, global issues, zoos and circuses. I have followed GSE since 2016 when their first 2 elephants arrived and it has changed my life for the better and how I view the world. I feel honored to be able to support them, follow the lives of the elephants and to have the opportunity to get to know Scott and Kat Blaise on social media and their passion for elephants and doing things honestly and ethically. I recommend their podcasts to understand the difficulties they encountered getting the Brazil sanctuary started in a country foreign to them and the wonderful people there and around the world who believe in them and their dream and helped make it a reality.
Kat & Scott along with GSE/ESB are wonderful people.
Providing a safe haven for elephants who have led a life of cruelty (performing in circuses, zoo captivity, living in concrete pits, having bullhooks used on their ears, feet, and entire body. Denied medical care, appropriate food and water, and some having zero contact with another elephant when they usually live in a Herd).
The #1 concern at GSE/ESB is the ELEPHANTS. The wellbeing, health (physical and mental), and understanding through behavior what each individual elephant’s needs are.
Scott & Kat also provide education to people in regards to all things elephant.
Wonderful, self sacrificing humans who work exceptionally hard for the reward of helping make the life of elephants better.
Although I’ve never met them in person, I LOVE them for what they do.
Having followed and supported Global Sanctuary for Elephants for several years, I am always amazed at the compassion and focused care they are able to give each of the elephants who are fortunate enough to come to their sanctuary. Watching the elephants blossom after years in captivity is proof that elephants do not belong in captive settings, but in sanctuaries that can nourish and give them a life they deserve. Thank you Global Sanctuary for Elephants!
Global Sanctuary for Elephants is run by experts who truly understand elephant care. The elephants live the best possible lives in a captive situation - receiving medical treatment when needed and being monitored by a team that works to understand the nuances of what elephants need. They try to make sure that the elephants live the most natural lives possible, interacting with them only when necessary. The team does as much as they can to ensure that the elephant residents are offered the most autonomy as possible.
I am delighted to share my extraordinary experience with Global Sanctuary for Elephants. As an advocate for animal welfare and a passionate supporter of elephant conservation, I can confidently say that this organization is unparalleled in its dedication and impact.
First and foremost, the sanctuary's commitment to providing a safe and nurturing environment for elephants is truly awe-inspiring. The sheer magnitude of effort put into transforming abused and neglected elephants into healthy, happy beings is nothing short of remarkable. The elephants at the sanctuary are treated with the utmost respect and are given the freedom to heal physically and emotionally, ensuring their well-being above all else.
The knowledgeable and compassionate staff at Global Sanctuary for Elephants deserve immense recognition. Their expertise in elephant behavior, rehabilitation, and care is evident in the way they interact with the elephants. It is heartwarming to witness the genuine bond they form with these magnificent creatures, prioritizing their individual needs and creating a supportive community for their recovery.
The sanctuary's commitment to education and advocacy is commendable. They actively raise awareness about the plight of elephants, the importance of their conservation, and the consequences of captivity. By engaging with the public, stakeholders, and donors, they strive to change mindsets and promote ethical treatment of elephants, ultimately working towards a more compassionate future.
Global Sanctuary for Elephants deserves the highest accolades for their exceptional work. Their unwavering dedication to the rescue, rehabilitation, and lifelong care of elephants is a shining example for others to follow. If you are passionate about these incredible creatures and want to support a truly transformative organization, I wholeheartedly recommend Global Sanctuary for Elephants. Together, we can make a difference and secure a brighter future for elephants worldwide.
An A+ organization that I personally know puts transparency on the forefront of their values. A group of compassionate individuals, from the caretakers to the administrative staff, that are a prime example of what a well-functioning and kind-hearted non-profit should be. Grateful to be a part of the team and to interact with all of our supporters who keep us going!
Global Sanctuary for Elephants exists to create vast, safe spaces for captive elephants, where they are able to heal physically and emotionally. Our pilot project, Elephant Sanctuary Brazil, is the first and only elephant sanctuary in South America. Our mission to protect, rescue, and provide sanctuary for elephants worldwide
after having discovered Global Sanctuary for Elephants during the rescue of the last captive elephant in Chile, Ramba, and continuing with the next rescue of Lady in Brazil; this effort, this dream and all the people involved, (obviously Scott and Kat Blais) are so inspirational and so compelling in what we must do and how we need to connect, re-connect and repair what we have done to nature and the beings we share this planet with...
so much has been done, so much more to do...
Help bring elephants home to sanctuary (video from Aug 14, 2017)
GSE is such a wonderful organization. The care that they give these creatures is above & beyond. The elephants are allowed to be who they are, the staff gives them the space and time that they need. I would highly recommend them to everyone and I encourage all to read about what GSE does. It's an organization that is so dear to my heart!

I have been a member of the GSE family since Maia & Guida's arrival at sanctuary. The folks at GSE are giving these elephants much more than just a home-they are given choices, understanding, and the ability to just be. I cannot imagine GSE not existing-they continue to amaze me with the work that they do.
I love the work that this Sanctuary does. I have watched each elephants journey from getting ready to moving to sanctuary with tears of happiness, the best part for me is seeing the difference in these beautiful animals when they show the joy and freedom that they now enjoy, there are not enough words to describe how happy I am that these wonderful people are so committed to rescuing the elephants from such horrific circumstances so they can live a much better life, to me they go above and beyond. Bless you all for all you do.
The diligence and caring of this sanctuary is amazing. The thoughtfulness of the elephants is stellar.
I have been supporting and volunteering for GSE for 4 years now and my admiration continues to grow. Although far away, I feel connected to the sanctuary by their excellent and dedicated accounts of what is happening to the resident elephants, future rescues, how construction projects are developing. Videos, photos and graphics are full of details and explanations. Questions are replied to and the transparency of how donations are put into use I personally find very professional. An amazing sanctuary with a dedicated team both on the ground in Brazil and the admin team.
I have supported Global Sanctuary for Elephants since I came across them unloading Guida and Maia the first elephants to come to Sanctuary on the night of their arrival at Sanctuary. I have watched them every day since then. Scott and Kat are the most wonderful kind, caring compassionate people. They are passionate about the work they do to give the girls the most wonderful life they could ever imagined would be possible for them. I have watched every rescue they have done since first coming across them. They care for each elephant they rescue. They have faced some very uneasy times but have never given up on them. Kat and Scott share news of the girls every day with all of their supporters worldwide, even times when bad news has to be told to us.
The rescues are exciting as they involve all of us worldwide with texts, live videos while on route to Sanctuary. They involve us in everything. We love and support them for their tireless work they do for our girls and many other animals. The Sanctuary is the most beautiful place. The beautiful elephants that are still waiting to come to them will be so lucky to embrace their new life of freedom at a GSE. They deserve recognition for their enthusiasm, love and kindness for our precious girls as they learn to be ‘just elephants’. Those still waiting to come home including the Male elephants who will have their own yards and not be with the females. We all love and care about Scott, Kat and all the team for their wonderful work.

I first became aware of Global Sanctuary for a Elephants the night I happened to come across the live feed of Maia and Guida’s arrival on the back of lorries. I sat transfixed until both beautiful girls were off loaded and in their holding pens. I’m in the UK so it was the early hours of the morning. The first thing I did when I woke up was to go back on to see how they were. It has been wonderful to watch these fabulous girls begin to relax and get to know each other properly and not be chained in the field they lived in for years. Maia could be demonstrative with Guida. Just look at them now, they love each other, are never far away from each other. Their characters have been emerging over the last 20 odd months. Maia’s a total goof ball, Guida is more laid back. I love them so much. I can’t wait till Ramba, Kenya and the other wonderful ele’s waiting for paperwork to go through to finally allow them to come to GSE, I long for their arrival.
Kat and Scott and all their team and Wal-ee are just wonderful kind hearted people. They take us through the ups and downs, the laughter and tears. I love the girls and I love these wonderful people too. Thank you all. ❤️
Truly exceptional ! Incredible physical and spiritual space for healing that achieves a similar end for the humans who follow it! A true gift to the world!!!!!
GSE is an amazing group of people under Scott and Kat’s incredible leadership. Their care of, their respect for and their love of elephants (and all the animals and their natural habitat) is exceptional, and if the whole world operated like they do, we would all thrive.
I have never seen any sanctuary give this much pure freedom to any animal much less captive elephants that come with all levels of abuse . From the moment the doors open at the truck at the sanctuary their freedom of choices begin . Whenever they choose to come out of the trailer is up to them . From there the magic begins . Scott and Kat are true elephant whisperer’s. No elephant is ever forced to do anything!!!! Every decision is theirs to make on their own timeline as each elephant comes from different trauma. No one story is the same for each elephant. But that doesn’t matter here . Here they are so free it’s amazing to see how quickly they change due to the ultimate respect and deep understanding Scott and Kat give them . It doesn’t take long almost instantly it seems they just know they are ok with them . Even touching them is only done on the elephant terms ! Now that is rare and certainly not ever been given to any of these elephants before . To watch their eyes change so quickly is truly unbelievable. I have never been exposed to the type of sanctuary that goes to this deep of healing and true freedom. It’s beautiful to see each one’s journey! Scott and Kat are quite the dynamic duo !! They love what we call all the girls ! They are working hard everyday to rescue more elephants all the while working day and night to give the elephants they have their best life !!
I have been following (and supporting) Global Sanctuary for Elephants for several years now, and am beyond impressed with everything about this wonderful organization. Not only do they do amazing work in rescuing and providing formerly abused elephants with a wonderful new life, but Scott and Kat (the founders) provide an up close and personal account of current "goings on" at the Sanctuary and constantly express gratitude ~love for their supporters. In my opinion this is an example of what every nonprofit should be.
I've been following and supporting GSE from the beginning of its mission to rescue captive South American elephants and provide them with a forever home at Sanctuary Brazil. The founders, Kat and Scott Blais, have been helping elephants since their time at The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, which provided the experience necessary to begin a South American sanctuary. Their expenses, like everything else about elephants, are enormous- there's travel, training, transport, medical, staff, property, and food, amongst other needs. The work this nonprofit does is one of the true success stories in animal welfare. They have relocated nine elephants (to date) from zoos to their permanent Brazilian home, with more waiting to be rescued. The ability to obtain permission to take possession of these magnificent creatures depends on the success they've had in doing so. I'm happy to support their endeavors and contribute what I can to defraying their costs, because I can go online and see the difference they make in the lives of these captive elephants, giving them the life that was taken away when they were captured as babies from their native homes. I would urge all animal lovers to support their efforts and help make a difference!
I was introduced to GSE and the plight of elephants through facebook. GSE is excellent at educating the world about elephants. We also learn about the other animals living in the sanctuary. It is exciting to witness the process of moving elephant from captivity to freedom. They are just a great group of people.
GSE is one of the best sanctuaries in the world. They recently rescued a mother-daughter pair from a cement hole in the ground. Pocha gave birth to her baby girl in that cement hole in the ground 24 years ago. The cement pit and the sky is all she saw for 24 years! They arrived at sanctuary only 2 months ago and the changes are already monumental. Please visit their website and FB pages, you will be so glad you did. Also, GSE has proven that rescue of a captive elephant is NEVER a waste of time! Groups like #FreeLucy have been trying to get Lucy moved to sanctuary from the Edmonton Zoo in Canada, but the argument from the zoo is always “she is too old to move,” or “she is not healthy enough to move.” GSE has proved that it is never too late — ALL elephants in captivity deserve to go to sanctuary. ALL elephants in the wild deserve to STAY in the wild. I have donated support each rescue at GSE and can’t wait to donate to the next.

I have followed and supported GSE for years. I love elephants and everything this sanctuary stands for. There is absolutely nothing like seeing an elephant take their first steps at the sanctuary! The change is instantly noticeable and just gets greater and more heart warming (and tear inducing) as the days go by.
These lovely girls are thriving in their forever home which is the best suited habitats for all type of elephants. That’s what sancutary life is all about…no concrete floors or walls, no confinement to small enclosures and no breeding.
From living in pits, chained to walls, severe abuse, neglect and isolation, our girls are now thriving and living a life filled with joy and peace. GSE is the best sanctuary around. The people there give their lives and hearts to the care and nurture of the Elephants and all the residents on the property. The elephants now live daily with friends, family, joyful trumpets and magical rumbles!!! This place is the best around!!
GSE's latest rescue was a Mother and Daughter that had lived in a underground Pit for 50/24years with no outside interaction except for their keepers. Upon arrival they were afraid to leave their crates. Once venturing forth they remained in the open Barn. Within months Pocha and Guille have met and interacted with the other elephants, enjoy swims and mud baths and roaming all over Sanctuary together and separately! You have to watch the before and present videos to appreciate the Miracle of GSE.
Have watched and donated for several years now. Its amazing to watch these elephants come to the park. To watch them grow and learn how to be an elephant with choices. To do what they want, when they want. Hope many more will be able to make the journey there and have a better life.
I am obsessed with elephants. When I first discovered GSE I was thrilled, the love, caring and most importantly understanding that is given to the elephants is incredible. Following the stories of the ladies who have been saved by GSE often brings tears - of sorrow for how they lived but more tears of joy for how they are living now. No matter what I am doing I drop everything when I get a notification of a live feed and when a new elephant is in transit I don't leave the house in case I miss a video. As I said I am obsessed with elephants and GSE is a HUGE part of the obsession. They are in my will and I donate whenever I can.
The Sanctuary rescues elephants that have suffered imprisonment, if not abuse, for decades in circuses, zoos, and ecoparks. The extraordinary people who run the Sanctuary display not only amazing insight into the psyche of the animals but allow them total (unobtrusively monitored) autonomy, medical care, healthy food, safety, and, not least, love. This is the best non-profit group I can imagine. They deserve every possible plaudit and positive endorsement.
I have been honored to watch GSE rescue several elephants and bring them to sanctuary. To watch them flourish and grow makes my heart happy. I've watched Scott and Kat interact with them and they are so kind and respectful to their well-being. Everything is at the elephants pace, not the sanctuary, or ones own expectations...they are an amazing group that does nothing but what's in an elephants best interest. Every time they get a new arrival/rescue we watch from beginning to end. I donate as often as possible as well. Highly recommend GSE!
If ever there was a perfect elephant sanctuary, GSE has to be at the very top! The vast forests, minimum human contact, and total respect for individual personalities and needs. The sanctuary is exceptionally well planned out and so much thought, design, and preparation is implemented for the arrivial of each and every elephant. The animals are very carefully monitored 24 hours a day and any urgency is immediately met with professional attention. Love and respect for the gentle giants are in a constant flow from Scott, Kat, and every team member.
This Sanctuary has went above and beyond to rescue every Ellie that they have been able to. They are compassionate and allow the Ellies to live their life their way and allow them to have their space while keeping them healthy. They update us with all the happenings there and the silliness of the girls and any improvements they may have. Its one of the biggest joys for me to watch the progress and see the smiles of these beautiful ladies and yes they do smile!! The crew there at the Brazil Sanctuary have the biggest hearts and because of their compassion and love these Ellies will flourish and have the happy life they so truly deserve. Thankful for all their hardwork 24/7 you guys are angels!!
This elephant sanctuary captured my heart like none other. Their unique approach to sanctuary is outstanding: everything is about freedom of choice because these elephants have been deprived of their own choices since they were stolen from the wild. It is truly the meaning of sanctuary versus well-meaning zoos with artificial habitats, tourists and schedules. GSE gives elephants the life they were born to have, and they do an excellent job educating, communicating, appreciating their supporters. I feel they are all a part of my life, not just a recipient of my donations.
I started following Global Sanctuary for Elephants a few years ago. Since then, I have learned so much about why their philosophy allows these previously captive elephants to flourish into amazing, happy, and content animals, once again.
When I discovered them just last year I could not believe how amazing this place was, how beautiful the elephants are, and how dedicated and committed the staff are. After reading and researching I am full of respect not only to Brazil but all South American countries. They are the leaders now in their wildlife welfare. I am so so excited with incoming further rescues of elephants stuck in various ZOOs. Not a minute to lose!!!
My beloved Sanctuary. I have witnessed the ladies arrivals with bated breath and exhaled once I saw each one of them blossom and start to rediscover themselves . Though the trauma lingers and rears it’s head at times …they are given such autonomy, filled with gentle reassurance and oh so much love ! May it home many many more until a full herd is reached!
I have been following GSE since before Maia and Guida even arrived there. I got totally hooked on them, especially after watching the arrival of Maia and Guida. It was so emotional and watching Kat and Scott work with the elephants and change their lives by giving them sanctuary is the most heartwarming and inspiring thing I have ever experienced. Reading their post everyday is what I look most forward to. The world really gets me down and frustrated and Kat, Scott, the beautiful elephants and the entire team that works with them is the one thing that gives me hope, makes me smile, and has made me cry when we have lost one of our beautiful girls. I donate to them what I can and always wish it could be more. My heart aches for all mistreated animals and the sanctuary is a ray of hope at least for elephants. I hope they can continue making a difference for many, many years to come. The world needs more people like Kat and Scott!
Love this nonprofit organization for elephants. I feel like I know the elephants intimately because Kat and Scott do such a good job of deeply explaning of the elephants personalities and their behaviors. They explain and teach all sorts of other wonderful things about the elephants like their Healthcare, diet and the elephants intimate relationship with eachother. I love this sanctuary so much. So happy these wonderful creatures can retire in peace, harmony and compassion. Keep up the good work GSE!
GSE is the most amazing place! Although I do not know any of them personally, Scott and Kat include us in every aspect of the sanctuary, from new rescues, daily updates on the health of the elephants their behaviour and general mischief. We really do feel like a family and I'm happy to donate to this wonderful elephant sanctuary.
I've being following GSE since Mara. I could not be more happy about her new life, and the Spa-Paradise that GSE provides to her and to all of the residents. I strongly believe that GSE is the best Sanctuary worlwide, because of the deep respect for the residents, the experience and expertise of the whole staff, the empathy, the care and vet care, the freedom ir gives, the facilities, the place, the weather ... everything is perfect.
I'm thrilled knowing that the 6 wonderful argentinian elephants are going to be at GSE as soon as possible. We can't wait until they are at GSE.

It’s such a pleasure to support an organization like GSE.. I am very proud to feel myself part of their mission to provide a wonderful life to these magnificent animals ❤️
I am a very lover of Elephants any which way you can love and help them. When I came across GSE/Brazil I not only fell in love with the Elephants ( adopted Bambi) but I love each and every caretaker /human that is within the walls of the sanctuary. Scott and Kat are the epidemy of what you want concerning care, love , sanctuary, thriving, speaking for and I could go on as far as who is in charge of these blessed elephants in Brazil. I as a adopter of Bambi and giver of as many funds I can give for all and incoming Ellie's know, without a shadow of a doubt, 100 % of my money goes to them, the sanctuary, food whatever. The video's and updates make me feel I am walking with them as they update me. I get a special update on Bambi. The realtime zooms of exciting placements and care of them. I am so grateful to be a living part of this sanctuary and all that comes with it - I will be a lifer as far as helping anyway I can. I love them all and everything they are about. I will be posting my Birthday fundraiser soon for Global Brazil to donate for whatever they need it for and can't wait to see how many of my friends donate because they know how serious I am about this sanctuary.
Thank you for letting me share my heartfelt loyalty to this sanctuary.

Gracias,gracias,gracias GSE Brasil y Tenesee
Global Santuary for Elephants Brazil is such a wonderful and caring organization. They are so good to the elephants and let the elephants make their own decisions on what they want to do. They also get wonderful food. Would love to see them in person. Everyone that works there are great, especially Scott
What can I say about this incredible organisation to do it justice?
Many others have written so eloquently about it.
I have been involved in a UK based group Action for Elephants for years and follow many sanctuaries and elephant charities around the world. I've volunteered in several.
Scott and Kat's total devotion to these incredible elephants who have led such hard and painful lives is awe inspiring. Their knowledge and care is second to none.
They notice every little nuance of elephant behaviour, and allow each individual space and time to heal. They train others to the highest standard of care.
To follow each rescue as it unfolds is absolutely amazing and they involve their global family of supporters unique insights which has led to greater understanding and education.
This is then spread out across the world by us sharing those insights with our friends and families.
We feel all of the joy and all of the pain.
This sanctuary in Brazil is so needed to offer these damaged elephants healing and care and is a gold standard for sanctuaries everywhere. The respect and love afforded to all the creatures at GSE is mind blowing.
Thank you Global Sanctuary for Elephants.
Thank you to the very best of human beings Scott and Kat.
I had been hearing and reading about GSE for many years, and was always impressed with the amazing work they do with abused elephants. I was able to donate when Maia was being readied to move to her heaven on earth.
These people give life to hurting, damaged, lonely elephants, helping them physically, mentally and most importantly emotionally. Watching the video updates of Maia's progress, as well as the other elephants who are lucky enough to have been taken in by GSE is heartwarming, and restores some of my faith in humanity. Thank you, GSE, for the amazing work you do. You are incredible.
The best sanctuary I have been following for some years now. I love elephants and I cannot thank GSE enough for what they do, not only for elephants but for other animals as well.
Keep the great work GSE team. Scott and Kat (without forgetting their team) are wonderful angels on Earth. Bless their hearts and I can’t wait for them to bring other elephants at the sanctuary.
This is an amazing sanctuary. Not just for elephants but all sorts of creatures. And they care about the land. I love Scott and Kate and all they stand for.
Assistir a recuperação física e emocional dos elefantes que chegam ao GSE, é uma das coisas mais impressionantes e maravilhosas que vi na vida.
I’ve never met, but I have known Kat and Scott since they started GSE. What they and their team have accomplished is nothing short of extraordinary! GSE is a godsend for these beautiful animals. As a supporter and occasional donor I am always amazed at how well informed they keep their followers, how they truly love and care for the elephants and all the other critters who call the sanctuary home. I hope some multi millionaire comes along and funds their work into the next century!
I love the work GSE does with formerly captive elephants. They carefully and thoughtfully observe each individual elephant and allow them to recover at their own pace. Scott & Kat are elephant experts who thoroughly understand captivity-related trauma to highly intelligent and social creatures by providing a healing space for the restoration of their bodies, minds, and psyches. Once this pandemic is managed, I look forward to watching other elephants step into freedom.
I have been privileged to become a small part of this truly wonderful enterprise which is providing Sanctuary for elephants who have been abused and restrained all their lives. Led by Scott & Kat- both renowned & world experts on elephants, their habitats and so much more, GSE provides an almost heavenly place for these beautiful girls ( at the moment!) to recover, play Muddy Puddles & Itvhy Scatchy Tree for the first time in their lives. Each elephant is treated with total and utter respect, love and allowed to recover at their own pace. They are allowed a freedom previously never known by these gorgeous girls, whilst being given daily treatments for whatever ailments they continue to carry with them, from their awful past lives. I am truly humbled to be part of this amazing group of extraordinary humans whose only wish is to allow those in their care- & the rescues to come- to live their very best lives. It is an holistic and spiritual entity which is way beyond many peoples imaginings. I came to look and stayed to wonder at the miracles that take place here. My only regret is that I can’t join in the Night Parties with their loud trumpeting, squeaks and rumbles as some play all night. When God made Scott & Kat, they were destined to find each other and spread the magnificence of their unending, adoring love for Eles.
I support and thank Global Sanctuary for elephants for giving elephants the only chance to regain the life and dignity that humans have taken away from them, offering them all the care, space and security they need, and also all the love they deserve. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you do, for so much time dedicated to these beautiful beings, and for the commitment you make every day to their welfare, and especially for taking such good care of my beloved Mara who has left the deepest mark in my heart.
Adelante !!!
This sanctuary has done so much for these majestic animals. In addition, they’ve enriched my life to an extraordinary degree. During the pandemic, viewing their stories, videos and post about these lovely ladies brought me much happiness and hope. I honestly love these elephants and all the people who take such wonderful care of them.
GSE has been a rewarding part of my life since their earlier days of construction and applying for permits to bring their first residents to sanctuary. Ramba’s story drew me in first, then Guida and Maia cemented my love and appreciation for the amazing team of caregivers at GSE in Brazil. We are poised as a family of donors and contributors to bring many more eles to sanctuary, including a mother and daughter who’ve lived their lives in a pit enclosure, a male elephant, and African eles, too. Sanctuary is growing but it does not achieve that goal without dedicated staff and committed contributors. The communications, videos, posts, and emails keep our entire contributing family in the loop, very much connected to the elephants and the people of GSE. Join us for the joy of seeing once traumatized sentient creatures recover their freedoms, their sense of agency, and their well being… Global Sanctuary for Elephants has earned the trust, support, and respect of a growing community of supporters.
GSE has founded in Brazil, the only Elephant Sanctuary in South America. It is also the only sanctuary in South America accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries. They are rescuing and rehabilitating captive elephants after decades of living in circuses and zoos, in Argentina and Brazil.
GSE gives them the opportunity to live free and in the company of other elephants in a natural paradise, healing physically, mentally and emotionally.
Scott and Kat Blais have decades of rescue experience. Their followers observe the love and respect they bring to the elephants.
GSE publishes daily information about each of the residents.
Transparency, respect and professionalism are what characterize the GSE.
I support and will always be grateful to the GSE!
This sanctuary is truly amazing. The love and care shown to all the residents is beyond compare. Once the elephants arrive here, they know they are in a safe space and begin to thrive. Short of living in the wild, there is no better place for elephants to be! Cannot recommend Global Sanctuary highly enough
I have been supporting Global Sanctuary for Elephants for several years and am always impressed by their transparency and respect for donors, volunteers and other supporters.
GSE are the real deal of sanctuaries. They live it they work it and everything they do is for the elephants. They put your donated money where the elephants need it most. They respect nature, respect people and respect rescue. They forge alliances through knowledge and respect to create a safe home for all the elephants in their care. Also the years of experience working with elephants clearly shows in the fluidity of their rescues and how well all the elephants settle into sanctuary life.

What a paradise for elephants. I love the updates you get the way they visually take you on the rescues of the elephants journey to sanctuary, you feel like part of the team as you watch these elephants making their way to sanctuary via video and posts. Great place great charity well worth supporting
This charity gives captured elephants the chance to live the rest of their lives in a place of safety where they can heal and flourish. All the staff work tirelessly and yet make time to keep us up to date with information on how the elephants are in the sanctuary, elephant facts and any fundraising needed. We feel part of the family!
While I have followed sanctuaries for animals all over the world, as well as participating in regional rescues, I have never come across any establishment quite like the magical, charming, engaging & educational Global Sanctuary For Elephants in Brazil.
What Scott & Kat Blasis have created through their tireless dedication is a tranquil place of healing for these gentle giants, who have endured so many decades of cruelty.
Watching Lady, Bambi, Rana, Mara & Maia rediscover what it is like to be a true elephant, to explore natures' beauty is a wonder to behold. Seeing their traumatized souls become happy once again, as indicated through their joyous trumpeting, loud squeaks & gentle rumbles lets us all know they have found true peace as they embrace their senior years.
Knowing these elephants are older, that their longevity may be short, demonstrates the epitome of love & generosity of spirit because the faithful caregivers engage these challenges knowing full well the heartbreak that will eventually result. In doing so these remarkable founders, employees & volunteers risk many emotions because they realize the tears they may one day shed are not a sign of weakness, merely an indication of total love & commitment to this most worthy cause.
Yet still they continue changing the world, one elephant at a time, demonstrating the best that humanity has to offer.
I highly recommend following & donating to The Global Sanctuary For Elephants in Brazil for all they do to make the world a truly better place, as well as allowing all of us the opportunity to share this amazing journey on these life changing paths of healing through the informative, sensitive & eloquently stated postings which they generously share each day.

The Global Sanctuary For Elephants in Brazil serves as an inspiration for the entire world by demonstrating the epitome of kindness & patience, in addition to providing an educational service to all generations as to the plight of captive elephants. Their in depth knowledge of elephants combined with the diligence they put forth in regards to their health needs results in a remarkable healing process time after time. Watching what Scott & Kat accomplish through their dedication to these creatures; seeing the elephants' trauma slowing replaced with trust & awe as they learn to simply live their senior years the way nature intended; observing their wonderment unfold alittle each day in peaceful sanctuary is a miraculous journey indeed! I, along with others who watch their website, continue to encourage people to become involved with this worthy cause so that one day all elephants will be free from captivity. GSE provides a crucial service in accomplishing this goal due to their expertise & knowledge, the ability to articulate their successful endeavors, all the while continuing to disseminate the progress within the sanctuary on a daily basis. Scott, Kat & their hard working staff serve as outstanding caregivers to these magnificent creatures, as well as noteworthy ambassadors by articulating so beautifully the emotions of the elephants through their website, which actually makes one feel as if they are there within the lush forest. It is a rare gift indeed to be able to sense the feelings of an elephant, as well as so eloquently relay their stories to us humans; but they manage to do so everyday, sharing a little piece of magic & joy along the way, making the world a better place for all mankind.
I love the Elephants and i have great respect for those Friends who do such wonderful things to free them and give them kindness they so deserve after such hard years in cruel captivity.
Please help the 9 the Elephants
Global sanctuary For Elephants (Brazil) is opening it's gates to the many ex-circus and zoo elephants who need a forever home following closures of elephant exhibits in a changing continent wide understanding that acknowledges that zoos and circuses are not the place for this most intelligent sensitive empathetic animal. GSE has a first class social media conversation with supporters, they are in daily contact with us sharing the rescued elephants evolving lives, their discoveries as the various personalities of these elephants shows are expressed. Its a very special place and the natural habitat beautiful and stimulating and climatically perfect place for elephants with the care of a great team of true experts in all their various skills coming together to bring these elephants who are damaged by some 40-50+ years gruelling lonely captivity a new life full of autonomy, peace and the friendship + company of their own species, and poss for the 1st time appropriate medical care and diet. I learn so much from Global Sanctuary For Elephants and think its Supporters are great!
I have followed this organization for awhile. Not only are they doing wonderful, important work/rescue in the world, they do a suburb job of communication. They post videos, pictures, and detailed explanations of what they do and why. They update all the time and their posts are so interesting. They are a steller and superior non-profit. So grateful for them!!!!!!!
I’ve always loved Elephants and checked in to various sites around the world that take care of abused Elephants.
Then one day I happened upon “Lady’s Journey,” I was immediately captivated watching her being transported to GSE in Brazil, by the love shown to her by Scott and Kat, the interaction with followers who are treated like family.
But most of all, watching how these beautiful girls blossom and grow in confidence and trust, how their emotional healing is as important as their physical healing and how Scott and Kat allow them to be free to do just as they like, when they like, in other words, allowing them to be elephants free at last from years of abuse.
This sanctuary has changed my life as well as the life of our beautiful girls.
I've followed the Global Sanctuary for Elephants for several years and have been deeply impressed by their work. Their tireless care and nurturance of elephants who have spent many decades in neglectful and often abusive situations offers these animals a life of sanctuary, a chance to know that humans truly can respect and care for them. GSE's devotion to providing the highest quality of care possible, combined with the most thoughtful handling of the elephants and their personalities, is exemplary. I wish every elephant in captivity had the chance to live such a healthy and stress-free life
Founders Scott and Kat Blais saw a desperate need in South America. There were no sanctuaries for elephants on the continent with many elephants in need: Elephants that are living in horrible conditions in small enclosures, sometimes in chains, many times with terrible foot conditions due to captivity. They selflessly uprooted their entire lives and moved from the US to Brazil to care for these magnificent animals.
There are many worthy animal nonprofits but this is the first that grabbed my heart and won't let go. Scott and Kat (along with their amazing team) work tirelessly with love, transparency and humor.
I urge you to look closely at this beautiful organization and support them spiritually, emotionally and financially, if able.
I have made small donations to other genuine ele sanctuaries but GSE is the only one that I am fully committed to and give whenever there’s a campaign on. The reason for this is that I feel informed every step of the way via Kat’s almost daily dIgest. Through her I can follow my $ contributions from the very beginning of a new rescue led by Scott, to arrivals at the Sanctuary and all around the fields and forests with revues of how the elephants are settling in. We even find out what mood the girls are in and what mischievous pranks they are playing on their humans. It lifts me up every day so that is why they get my donations. Maybe others would prefer a web cam to watch what’s going on 24/7. That would be a bonus, but given a choice, I go with the oh so human behaviour of social connection through storytelling, and GSE is the only sanctuary that offers this on an almost daily basis.
I continue to be a PROUD supporter of Global Sanctuary for Elephants. From the beginning and continue to support both Kat and Scott. I am honoured to say Scott and Kat are two amazing humans who have worked with and for elephants for years. I have watched both of them continue to rescue elephants and bring them “home” to Sanctuary – At Sanctuary all are on elephant time! Kat & Scott continue to loving and caring humans who have dedicate their lives to serving elephants and both ARE my heroes in todays world. PICTURE is from Global Sanctuary for Elephants Maia, Rana and Mara
What a wonderful place - saving lives. Saving elephant Iives.
Educating the world on how to love - we all need to follow this example for all living things.
Seeing photos of the rescued elephants really enforces the impact of how much more work needs to be done to save all the elephants that are being abused, abandoned and alone.
Watching the transformations of these majestic elephants made me a true believer in the power of rescue. Their eyes soften and they smile!!! The way the people there talk to them is amazing. I’m proud to support anything they do.
I love this wonderful non-profit organization for their incredible work and tireless care of elephants. I follow their posts and love the stories of how each elephant becomes relaxed and thrives in their new environment. Their healing is amazing and so well deserved. They truly care and love each and every elephant that is saved.
The daily updates on the elephants are informative and fun. We are let in on all the secrets of life and sometimes death in this beautiful sanctuary. They take their time with the beautiful ladies and somehow manage to keep the close knit community informed too!
Such a great organization! Exemplary care of the animals and they are great at staying in touch to let their fans how the herd and individuals in the herd are thriving. Bravo to a well run organization ❤️
GSE is such a wonderful, uplifting group! I look forward every day to learning more about the beautiful souls they rescue and how the rescues happen. I follow these elephants as if they are part of my own family of animals. Scott and his team have made me more aware of their plight and conservation, in general. We see how the donations are spent and why. I love all of these beings! And I love helping by donating and sharing their stories online. Lori Mayes
Kat & Scott Blais, founders of Global Sanctuary for Elephants Brazil (GSE), have created utopia for captive, neglected elephants. They let elephants be elephants, do elephant things and be themselves. Sanctuary is an elephant haven...the elephants are free to do as they wish. They can go on walk-abouts for days (Elephants Lady and Maia enjoy being on their own figuring out who they are) and find food and water in designated spots left by GSE crew. They can enjoy mud wallows, swimming in ponds, dirt dusting piles and acres of lush beauty. Elephants camouflaged by bushes, trees and greenery. They can enjoy other elephants (as Rana and Mara became instant best friends) or be on their own until they figure out their new freedom and what elephants do. They are fed, given treats, taken care of medically, physically and mentally. It only takes days (sometimes less) for the elephants to acclimate to Sanctuary life. Their faces become softer, eyes become bigger and brighter and then there's the smile, trumpeting, rumbles and squeaks. Sanctuary brings glowing, healthy skin along with needed foot spa treatments (as most captive elephants have bad feet from being on cement and have no care). I've followed GSE for years with awe of Kat and Scott's love and dedication to the elephants (Heroes to the elephants and me). They excitedly pull us in with videos, photos and, best of all, stories of each elephant. Funny, silly, educational, serious, sad stories of their lives with the elephants (and other animals at Sanctuary) and they tell it in such a way you feel like you're right there beside them. When I first read a post, I'll quickly read through it, watch the video or look at the photos and then re-read two or three more times to get every word and information. From GSE, I've learned incredible elephant information . Someday, before I leave this world, I would LOVE to just be in the presence of this blissful utopia called Global Sanctuary for Elephants Brazil. I don't need to touch an elephant; I don't even need to be near one. Just knowing the eles are there and happy would bring such joy. I'm sure I would have rivers of tears stream my face. And of course, I would work my butt off.
GSE does a wonderful job of caring for these elderly elephants. I look forward to the Asian herd growing, and the start up of their African herd with Kuki and Pupi from the "old" Buenos Aires zoo. I started following GSE when Ramba made her arduous journey to the sanctuary, and then watched as Lady and Mara made their magnificent journeys to Mato Grosso. GSE has been a bright spot with their daily updates on their "girls". I love watching them all doing whatever they want to do: Maia, Rana, Lady, and Mara.
So happy to support these elephants. It brings me such joy to hear stories on how they are doing and how well they are taken care of. Brazil is does a great job. Love following all the rescue of the elephants from different countries. Will always support GSE.
GSE is to be highly commended for their incredible efforts in rescuing and giving sanctuary to captive elephants. The updates on social media are informative, educational and entertaining. We are able to learn about the complexities of caring for these magnificent pachyderms and get to know their unique personalities. Kudos to Scott, Kat and the team at GSE for your heartwarming care and expertise. Best wishes for the future as you expand and provide solace for many more elephants.
This organization really cares about its donors and residents. They share everything they do with their donors. They have several ways to donate and have wonderful campaigns to help us build this sanctuary for captive elephants in South America. They really love their residents and share very informative content about them every day.
My favorite nonprofit by far. The work they do to bring elephants to sanctuary is truly amazing. They bring their supporters along every step of the way and keep us informed. I feel as a supporter I am a part of GSE too.
GSE do some amazing and much needed work for the poor elephants of the world that have been abused and neglected by humans. If it wasn’t for places like this, I dread to think about what would happen. Their skill and expertise is second to none.
I love their mission. They are rescuing elephants that have been abused their whole lives and giving them a sanctuary where they are able to live their lives as they were meant, as elephants.
Look at the faces of the elephants! That in its self IS THE STORY! Thank you for giving them the life they have always deserved.
I can’t express how much I love this place. I’ve adopted the current 4 elephants there for a year. After their long abusive lonely lives, they’ve found their heaven on earth .The people who run this are saints. They give their ‘fans’ photos, movies and stories about the girls. They are treated to their best lives. I love them all.
This sanctuary is amazing and takes very good care of these elephants. They go above and beyond for these amazing animals to make sure they have all they need and the freedom every elephant deserves.
GSE is absolutely the most transparent of any charity I know. They work tirelessly to give captive elephants a haven on earth. I have learned so much from their work model, about acceptance, love, generosity, and life.
They have the highest ethics and work hard to give our elephants a life, a life to be an elephant, to make their own choices, and have no expectations forced upon them.
I’ve been following Global Sanctuary for less than a year but know more than I ever thought possible about elephants. I followed the transfer of Lady and Mara from their zoo homes to sanctuary and watched them adapt to the other elephants and environment. Almost daily updates about what the elephants are doing and fun facts about the sanctuary make being under quarantine less stressful. I look forward to hearing the African elephant section to be finished so the three African elephants waiting for transfer can come.
Global Sanctuary for Elephants is such a wonderful, and much needed, sanctuary to help heal and care for these beautiful creatures.
I first came across Global Sanctuary for Elephants at the time I was first becoming aware of the abuse of elephants in the tourist industry and feeling that somehow I wanted to help. GSE at that time were still building the sanctuary, then all of a sudden there were two elephants that needed rescuing almost immediately and here was something I could do, help this happen! Over time, they’ve become my favourite organisation in this field because of the way they carry us all along with them, sharing, explaining, teaching us about the inadequacies of captivity (numerous) and the healing powers of sanctuary (infinite). Kat and Scott Blais, the founders, are remarkable people and have amassed a huge following, all of us equally determined to help undo some of the wrongs meted out to elephants - one of the most intelligent, sentient non human species on the planet - and give them back their birthright; autonomy, the company of their own kind and the environment to be what they were always meant to be. There is much to be done for the world’s elephants if they are to survive in the hostile world humans have created, but Global Sanctuary for Elephants is leading the way and has given us all hope.
Scott and Kat Blais are simply remarkable human beings. They move mountains and achieve the impossible. They are the benchmark that all facilities to home captive wildlife should aim for. They understand that there are so many more criteria to meet than the "basic needs" of an animal in captivity. They respect and acknowledge the right of elephants to live in social groups of their own choosing; to be autonomous in their decisions; and to roam as free as they can be. Kat and Scott, and all who work with them at Global Sanctuary for Elephants and Elephant Sanctuary Brazil , do all they can to give elephants back their birthright. Something our society needs to be doing on a much larger scale, to atone for so many injustices that have been dealt to elephants as a species, for centuries. They do all of this, yet manage to be incredibly inclusive with all supporters across the globe, constantly updating and involving each and every donor and interested party, whoever and wherever those individuals are.
It's time to let elephants go, time to help them heal, time to offer sanctuary.
" Saving one elephant can't change the world, but saving just one elephant changes their whole world".
I've known Scott and Kat and their work with elephants for nearly 10 years. I have been a donor, a volunteer and a coworker and I can assure you Global Sanctuary for Elephants is an amazing organization with a grand but attainable mission of providing a better life for elephants around the world. Scott and Kat manage the organization and care for the elephants with a passion and integrity rarely seen. Their life and work are one path, and this dedication has privded dozens of elephants the opprotunity to heal and experience life in sanctuary. Every dollar donated, and every donor, is treated with respect and gratitude and put is directly to work bringing an elephant in need somewhere in the world closer to sanctuary.
This sanctuary is a wonderful loving safe haven for elephants. A paradise for not only elephants, GSE also has a rehabilitation and release program to tapirs. Global Sanctuary for Elephants is a true sanctuary, a sanctuary for all. Kat and Scott bring a life time of experience, expertise, devotion and understanding to formally neglected and abused Elephants helping them heal from a life time of abuse and neglect.
I volunteered for one month last October (2018) at Global Sanctuary for Elephants. It was a truly amazing and humbling experience. The dedication and passion by the founders Kat and Scott Blais are just incredible. They are supported by a fantastic crew who are equally dedicated not only to the elephants but to all creatures great and small who call this sanctuary home. The sanctuary grounds are vast and so diverse in their topography boasting hills, valleys, lush grass pastures, small rivers, palm trees and many other indigenous plants and trees. This sanctuary is truly heaven on earth for all its inhabitants.
I have been following GSE for years. Have donated and helped anyway I can. The level of kindness, love, care and respect for the elephants and all others who are part of their sanctuary family is awe inspiring. In a world full of so much cruelty GSE is a breath of fresh air!
I’ve been following Sharing and donating to Global Sanctuary for elephants for years now the love and care given to each elephant is just indescribably beautiful and So thankful for their life’s work
An absolutely amazing place!! The work that Scott and Kat have done in creating such a beautiful healing elephant Sanctuary is beyond a blessing to these beautiful souls! I have watched the progress of Maia, Guida and Rana from day one and I can't think of a more magical healing place for any captive elephant.
I have been supporting Global Sanctuary for Elephants for over two years, as a volunteer and donor, and highly recommend them for their mission, effectiveness, and transparency. Their first project -- Elephant Sanctuary Brazil -- provides lifelong sanctuary for retired zoo and circus elephants from throughout South America. Building from the ground up, with only a few paid staff and on a shoestring budget, they have been able to provide sanctuary for three elephants (with more to come), along with expertise, supportive care and advice to zoos and private parties caring for elephants in Brazil, Argentina, and Chile. The Board and staff are consistently open and responsive to questions and I trust them implicitly to use my donations effectively and for the purpose intended.
Global Sanctuary for Elephants came to my attention via Twitter. Amazing organization with a dedicated team. Proud to donate towards their goal of providing captive elephants sanctuary. No chains, no performances-just peace and the choice to be part of a herd.
I have followed & watched Scott and Kat Blais for many years. Two humans dedicated to serving elephants and giving them the best home humanely possible. Ensuring elephants have the best care humans can provide. Both have my full support and trust. I have had the honor to “watch” them build from the ground up Global Sanctuary for Elephants. Creating Sanctuary Brazil and rescuing in a short timeframe two beautiful and sweet elephants, with more waiting to arrive. Kat and Scott provide us with daily updates (dependent on electricity) on all the residents at Sanctuary! Their videos of the residents are heartwarming and amazing. You feel as if you are right there. Besides elephants (with more to come) - chickens, horses, tapirs, dogs also make their home at GSfE – Sanctuary Brazil. Also important the elephants who are waiting and will soon call Sanctuary Brazil their Forever home. I can’t wait.
My passion to help elephants was sparked in 2013. I’d just returned from S. Africa where I’d fallen in love with that creature, but had learned the sad facts of the myriad of problems facing it. I furiously began knitting hats, creating elephant motif steppingstones, and crafts with monies raised going to elephant causes. My donations were modest. I felt my pennies were lost amongst the thousands or million of $$ the internationally recognized, celebrity- endorsing sanctuaries were receiving. Stars aligned that led me to Global Sanctuary for Elephants!! I have never turned back from supporting GSE. Scott & Kat, the founders, originally from Tennessee Elephant Sanctuary, are THE most compassionate, determined, and amazing human beings. They are elephant whisperers who have the patience, knowledge, and training to bring captive elephants back to their true, inherent natures. At GSE, an elephant can be an elephant 100%. I cannot praise this organization enough!! I’ve volunteered in fundraising efforts through online auctions, The Big Payback, et al. The integrity, professionalism, and transparency at GSE is beyond reproach. I recommend GSE to anyone wanting to help captive elephants reach sanctuary. The newsletters and almost daily updates on social media are simply delightful as well.
I am a donor-turned-volunteer! I have known the cofounders for many years- I worked with them at another elephant sanctuary, so I soon as I heard they were starting this one, I immediately donated and continued donating over the years. I eventually became a volunteer in various contexts, and recently travelled to Brazil to volunteer in person - it is an absolutely incredible place. The elephants are well cared for and well loved/supported, as well as the other various creatures that find themselves at sanctuary. I highly recommend donating time or money to this worthwhile organization - there are many elephants in South America and around the world that would benefit greatly from sanctuary, and I believe the dedicated folks behind this nonprofit are making a difference every day!
Global Sanctuary for Elephants in Brazil is unique in every way, their principles are strong & the amount of care & understanding taken for their elephants is simply the best. The effort and determination they show to rescue even more elephants in the near future tells me this is a perfect sanctuary but could certainly do with more funding to help them achieve this. Already they have two x circus elephants that have thrived in the two short years they have been there. Lets hope Scott & Kat’s dream comes true to enable them to give other captive elephants their forever home soon.
I first became aware of the Global Sanctuary for Elephants, several years ago, when they were first getting up and running. I work with a great many organizations, and while some are better than others, I am delighted to say that GSE is the absolute gold standard!
They are rated very highly on charity watchdog sites, in terms of their financial transparency and their organizational structure. But what makes them truly a joy to work with is their 100% dedication to providing safe, humane, lifetime care to the suffering elephants of the world.
They have the space, the know- how and the right mindset to make a real impact on elephants and their care.
I have also worked directly with them on a variety of fund raising endeavors! Unlike some of the "mega organizations" Global Sanctuary is very hands on, personal, up front and appreciative. They are personally vested in their supporters AND their elephants! I am very proud and happy to support Global Sanctuary for Elephants!
Scott and Kat Blais have made it their life's work to help captive elephants. Those familiar with The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee will remember Scott as one of the co-founders of that fine sanctuary for retired elephants and Kat also worked at TES as a caregiver for the Girls there. Learning that South America was making progress to free all captives in zoos and circuses they decided that Brazil would be a perfect fit to establish a new sanctuary for those elephants in that vicinity and beyond. In a few years' time they have welcomed their first two Asian female elephants, Maia and Guida, and delight all who follow their site with deeply personal glimpses into what sanctuary is about and how this philosophy of kindness and intensely focused care demonstrates the result in the behaviors of the elephants. Many times the elephants suffer from human cruelty and stresses that labels them dangerous and uncooperative. In a few short months the atmosphere at GSfE calms them, brings them together and delights all who witness this astonishing change for the better. I am honored to be part of their Support Family, and with other elephants (Africans and males included) waiting to move to this incredible place I look forward to watching as individuals become herds and families, what every elephant craves for overall health and happiness. I enthusiastically give this magic place 5 stars!
I have watched Kat and Scott work with elephants for many years. I have never seen two individuals so devoted and determined to provide the best possible care they can to any living being. Watching how they have built the Sanctuary in Brazil has been nothing short of amazing. The updates on the resident elephants, not to mention dogs, cats, chickens, a horse and other animals that need them are very inspirational. I cannot wait until more elephants are able to call Sanctuary home.
I am so proud of this incredible work and to be a donor. They have my trust and support. In a charity I look for accountability transparency ethics and purpose driven work. Global Sanctuary gets highest marks from me in all categories.
It was my extraordinarily good luck to become aware of the work of Global Sanctuary for Elephants in 2015 at which point I became a supporter and donor. I was immediately struck with their very open, transparent approach on everything that is involved in rescuing captive elephants - their desire to share their expert knowledge and experience with all donors and supporters. They have truly created a village - touching supporters and donors individually; doors always open.
No matter what the endeavor is, it is rare to come across two people (co-founders Scott & Kat Blais) with such a depth of character, integrity, determination and passion. Their can-do/must-do spirit and commitment to do whatever it takes to help elephants in need is as deep of an inspiration as I have been blessed to witness in this lifetime. It has been my good fortune to work with them as a full-time off-site volunteer since 2016; a blessing that I am deeply grateful for each and every day.
As a volunteer, I have closely followed the dedication, professionalism and serious work that the Global Sanctuary for Elephants have shown for so many years and the amazing impact it has had on the lives of elephants, other animals and the community. So much knowledge and experience have been shared and learned within the team!
Following Kat and Scott's work for years now. What they have accomplished so far in Brazil is already amazing, and there is still so much to be done for elephants in South America. If anyone can do it, it is them! Their work ethic and transparency shine just as bright as their love and passion for the cause, and that's an incredible combination for a nonprofit!
