Review for Straight Spouse Network Inc, Chicago, IL, USA
As the non-straight spouse, I have been trying to grapple with being not straight, yet loving my husband and wanting to say married. While SSN is mostly dedicated to the straight spouses, they also have information and mailing lists that can help the GLBT spouse too. This website has been helpful for both of us by pointing us to resources that we would not have otherwise known about.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
work more to help people who want to stay together, stay married. Mixed orientation marriages are possible but most resources emphasize divorce and moving on.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
the use of the mailing lists.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
add a focus: staying married in a mixed orientation marriage. Classes, workshops, books - because right now the assumed path is divorce and not everybody wants to do that.
Ways to make it better...
I had been in the targeted audience (i.e. the straight spouse). I wish I could find an organization that emphasized staying in a mixed orientation marriage.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
silence and fear. A lot of people don't want to face homosexuality in their marriage and don't want to admit to it if the issue comes up. Therefore they are less likely to seek help.
One thing I'd also say is that...
I am grateful that they include a few resources for the GLBT spouse. I wish they had something to emphasize that it isn't all horrible, not everybody cheats, and a mixed orientation marriage is possible.
