Review for Operation Troop Appreciation, West Mifflin, PA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Operation Troop Appreciation is an amazing group of volunteers making a distinct difference in the lives of troops serving abroad and veterans transitioning back into the community back here at home. I've benefitted from OTA while deployed and now gladly serve on the board of directors. I am always impressed by the level of commitment and service offered by this organization.

It's been an honor and privilege to be associated with Operation Troop Appreciation since 2009 as both a board member and a client served. I've been on the board since then and have seen the direct impact OTA has made the lives of deployed troops, military families and veterans. I was the recipient of care packages myself while deployed to Kuwait in 2012-13. The thing that impresses me most about this amazing organization is the dedication of the volunteers. These folks willingly give of themselves expecting nothing in return to contribute to the military and veteran populations.

Five-star review for a Five-star organization. Operation Troop Appreciation is comprised 100% of volunteers and nearly 100% of funds and contributions go directly to supporting servicemembers serving overseas and our nation's veterans. OTA is making a difference in the daily lives of thousands of military members and veterans!

I've been involved in Operation Troop Appreciation for more than 11 years as a volunteer board member and also as a recipient of its services as a deployed servicemember. You will never find a group of hardworking and giving people as the volunteers of OTA. They continually give their time, love, effort and money to support the needs of deployed troops and veterans transitioning back into the community from all military generations. This organization runs effectively while relying 100% on the contributions of volunteers and the community. It truly is an outstanding organization, providing outstanding support to our nation's servicemembers and veterans.

I serve on the Board of Directors of an outstanding nonprofit organization called Operation Troop Appreciation (OTA). The mission of OTA is to sustain the morale of deployed troops by providing them with “wish list” care packages. The wishes consist of everything from hygiene items and snacks to blankets, gloves, GPS systems and other tactical gear that’s hard to come by within the military supply system.

Since its inception in 2004, OTA has successfully granted wishes for nearly 800 units comprised of more than 80,000 service members. While OTA is based in Pittsburgh, the organization supports all types of units, active and Reserve, including all branches of the military regardless of where they are stationed. OTA is comprised exclusively of volunteers and 98.5 of all financial contributions go directly to support our troops overseas. Over the years, more than $1 Million of support has been sent to our troops.

The volunteers with OTA are the most patriotic people I've ever met. I've been a member of the Army Reserve for more than 26 years and I'm humbled at the dedication and level of patriotism with this fine folks who give of themselves freely and expect nothing in return.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I've served overseas with the military and understand the impact of receiving an anonymous care package packed with love or a thank you letter of support. The effects of these random acts of kindness are nearly immeasurable. OTA does them by the dozens every single day.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Infuse it with thousands of dollars, which would only allow their great work to be magnified exponentially.

Role:  Board Member & I've help OTA to connect to both private contributors and to network with local military units in the Pittsburgh area and beyond. .
