GBU Financial Life – Heartfelt Thanks from Deployed Soldiers from the Pennsylvania Army National Guard

On behalf of our unit, we extend our sincere appreciation to GBU Financial Life for your incredible support during our deployment. We have been away from our homes for nearly a year—most of that time spent overseas—and your generosity made a real difference.

Through the Operation Troop Appreciation program, you sent over 200 Christmas stockings filled with snacks, games, toiletries, and other thoughtful items. Your care packages brought much-needed Christmas cheer to Soldiers far from their families, lifting spirits and reminding us that we’re not alone. Your Christmas stockings were hung from our barracks beds and wall lockers with care : )

Thank you, GBU Financial Life, for your unwavering support of our troops. Your dedication means more than words can express, and we are truly grateful.

With heartfelt thanks,
SGM Nichols

Thanks to OTAs willingness and speed we were able to share over 200 holiday stockings with my deployed unit. OTA only needed to know where and how much and had goods on the way immediately. Being away over the holidays is always hard and I know I saw a glimmer of joy in my troops as they were able to gather up some items through these care packages. I’m beyond thankful for the effort they put in to get us these.

I'm thrilled with the Christmas stockings filled with snacks and supplies that Operation Troop Appreciation sent to my deployed Soldiers. The care and thoughtfulness that went into selecting each item was evident, and it was a huge morale boost for my troops.

The team at Operation Troop Appreciation and Sherry truly cares about our service members and it shows. I'm grateful for their selfless efforts and highly recommend supporting this worthy cause. They're making a real difference in the lives of our troops!

Operation Troop Appreciation is an amazing group of volunteers making a distinct difference in the lives of troops serving abroad and veterans transitioning back into the community back here at home. I've benefitted from OTA while deployed and now gladly serve on the board of directors. I am always impressed by the level of commitment and service offered by this organization.

It's been an honor and privilege to be associated with Operation Troop Appreciation since 2009 as both a board member and a client served. I've been on the board since then and have seen the direct impact OTA has made the lives of deployed troops, military families and veterans. I was the recipient of care packages myself while deployed to Kuwait in 2012-13. The thing that impresses me most about this amazing organization is the dedication of the volunteers. These folks willingly give of themselves expecting nothing in return to contribute to the military and veteran populations.

i met the founder of Operation Troop Appreciation (OTA), Kristen Holloway, in 2004 when I was on Active duty at the HQ 99th RSC in Coraopolis, PA and she had 2 van loads of musical instruments shipped to our 463rd En Bn in Iraq. Those instruments remained there for years passed down to each replacement unit, then to Afghanistan, Kuwait and Africa to other units. Additionally OTA shipped many hundreds of boxes of care packages to military units all over the globe. It all contributed greatly to the morale of the troops while away from home. OTA is 100% volunteer and has won numerous awards as a nonprofit organization, including from President Bush in 2004 in Pittsburgh and in 2006 at the Whitehouse. I thought so much of that organization that I joined as a volunteer when I retired. They are super!

The commitment for 20 years that Operation Troop Appreciation provides to our troops and returning veterans is remarkable. This organization is 100% volunteer run with 90% of donations going directly to those who need support. I am so proud to be a part of this effort to witness the dedication of not only our soldiers and vets, but the individuals here at home from the top down in leadership to the volunteers who make this organization run! OTA is one of the very best organizations to help our veterans. They not only provide huge start up kits for returning military but they personally package up boxes and boxes to be sent to our military bases all over the country and the world. They also provide extras like food boxes, extra Homegoods, small furniture items, transportation and more. Everything is absolutely free for our vets. And the whole program is totally run by volunteers who love our veterans.

My husband is a Veteran from 2 tours in Iraq. He was the one that originally connected and was assisted by this wonderful organization. We had hit a rough spot financially and Operation Troop Appreciation stepped right in to lend a "hand up", but not a "hand out". They were able to help us get a Welcome Home Kit and several beds for our family. It was a huge help and since then we have tried to help them and give back to them and other Vets and their families, too. They do an amazing Christmas party where kids of the Vets they've helped can come and have a fantastic meal, meet Santa, do crafts with other kids and also get gifts from Angel Donors as well. It hasn't happened in a few years due to COVID and they just moved from out near the Allegheny County Airport in West Mifflin to right around the corner from the West Mifflin High School on Pennsylvania Ave.
In any case, I cannot recommend them enough. They are great people who help Veteran selflessly. :-)

In the last 24 months, I’ve lost my Mother, Sister and Best Friend since we were both nine, the va had cut my benefits without a medical exam and I was at the lowest point of my adult life, Operation Troop Appreciation provided me with eight tickets to see Ed Sheeran, I took a couple, both of whom are caring for a loved one with dementia, a nurse who works in critical care for Children’s Hospital, her fiancée, who’s recovering from a torn ACL and two election workers who now go to work armed because of the current political environment. We all needed a night out and we had the best night of the summer. Thank you so much to everyone at Operation Troop Appreciation

Operation Troop Appreciation (OTA) was introduced to me by a great friend. She knew I had been living in the Washington, DC area and had recently retired to the Pittsburgh (hometown) area. My career had focused on military contracts, so I had spent much time in the company during work and socially. I have witnessed how hard military members work and know of their sacrifices for our country; both professionally and personally. Operation Troop Appreciation is a golden avenue to demonstrate our gratitude and offer recognition to these heroes for a job well-done. OTA offers assistance on many levels as a hand-up; not a hand-out. Life should not be a struggle for current or former military. OTA is a fantastic resource to our warriors.

OTA has been a life saving organization for my family and I. There has been help with Christmas for our 4 boys and when we moved into our new home. I have been able to make contacts with several places that OTA has referred me too. Every little bit helps in this world. My children look forward to writing their Christmas cards for soldiers during Christmas. Last year was our first year doing that with OTA and my children still talk about it. It feels good to be able to give back when they’ve given my family and I so much.

OTA is nothing short of Fantastic!!! I work with Homeless Veterans on a daily basis and once we find them safe, affordable and comfortable housing that's just part of it. Having a stable place to keep you out of the cold and a roof over your head is great, but many of the Veterans I assist cannot afford to outfit a new apartment once they get the keys and Operation Troop Appreciation fills that void like no other charitable organization that I know of.
Part of me actually feels bad since I am the one usually picking up the Welcome Home Kit (WHK) and dropping it off to the Veterans and their families. Obviously I, myself, didn't buy all of the items that come with a typical WHK and certainly couldn't afford to even if I tried, and that'd just be for even one Veteran. Combined the WHK is easily between $750 and a thousand dollars. They provide all of that, and a brand new bed and some mall lightly-used small furniture or even occasionally appliances.
On top of all of that OTA stays in contact with the Veterans for as long as the Veteran has needs and even does activities such as going to Pirates Games, Bike Run Events, and usually Christmas Gifts to them and their kids at a Christmas party, but not the past 2 years due to the pandemic. Even throughout the COVID-19 outbreak and mandatory restrictions they continued to assist Veterans even if only through "No-Contact" means.
Basically, I cannot thank them enough for all they do for all Veterans and wouldn't be able to do my job even remotely as well without their compassion, resources, and continued support!!!

I am a Case Manager for Housing Homeless Veterans with the Pittsburgh VA. Over the past 5 years I have worked with many Veterans in getting them housed and either into a new apartment or house. However, I do not have resources to help a Veteran sufficiently "get settled in" and make it into more than just another place to lay their head, but actually feel comfortable, safe and independent.
Operation Troop Appreciate has worked tirelessly and very generously to help me and others in similar positions get a Welcome Home Kit and new bed for newly housed Veterans. The WHK is just what it sounds like. It is a myriad of items that one needs to equip a new residence. Everything from pots, dishes, towels, shower curtains, new linens and pillows for their new bed and so many other things that it is usually overwhelming when I deliver it to the Veterans.
On top of that, OTA partners with the Original Mattress Factory to get the Veteran a brand new bed that is made specifically for them, delivered and set up in their new place. It may seem like something small, but to the Veterans I am privileged to serve it makes a huge difference.
Additionally, they provide Taxi transportation to and from appointments if needed until other more long-term arrangements can be made. This is also naturally a wonderful help for some of the Veterans that simply would not be able to make it to very urgent appointments when they have no other options.
Basically, Operation Troop Appreciation and their entire team of 100% Volunteers helps me help Veterans exponentially more and better overall than I could ever even hope to imagine on my own.

Please note, these are my personal views, not the views of VA or VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. Thank you.

Operation Troop Appreciation is nothing short of AMAZING! They have helped me so much over the last few years I'm not even sure if I can put it all into words! When I first got into my apartment they blessed me with a Welcome Home Kit that had so much included in it it took 3 trips for me to get it from my case manager's car up into my new place. It was all brand new items that helped me easily save $600-$1,000 by providing me with all of the essentials I would need to make my new apartment an actual "Home" instead of just a place to crash on some blankets on the floor and that's about it. I was pleasantly surprised that it came with so many things, and especially things I don't think I would have even thought of myself. I was so relieved when I found a can opener, a brand new Keurig Coffee Maker, and crisp and clean sheets pillows and blankets for the 'right-off-the-factory floor' Original Mattress Factory Queen Mattress, Box Springs and frame.
And that was all over a year ago. Since then they have invited me to a Pittsburgh Penguins game, which I was able to bring my kids to as well and it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for all of us. They have offered to help me in providing some things for my kids this Christmas this year and even got me some Gift Cards last year when COVID made getting together impractical.
I really cannot thank them enough for all they do not only for me and my family, but for all Veterans! And not one person at OTA gets a paycheck?!?! Really? All of their support is from donations and 100% of that goes to helping Veterans! They were a true Godsend for me and Hundreds of other Veterans in and around the Pittsburgh area when we were just getting back on our feet. They gave us a "Hand Up", but not a "Hand Out" and I couldn't be more appreciative!

I am a Veteran that has been helped by OTA in many ways over the past few years and don’t know exactly how to adequately put my family and I’d thanks into words, but I’ll try.
When I got into our new apartment after being transient for almost a year it wasn’t just the physical items in the Welcome Home Kit, or beds for my wife and I and for each of our 3 kids. It was so much more. It helped turn our small but cozy new house into a “Real Home!”
You can tell they do what they do for one reason... because they truly care about helping Vets.
I also had a few appointments at the VA and our car was getting repaired and again OTA stepped up and helped me get back and forth to those very important appointments by Vets Taxi. I live a little north of Pittsburgh too so I know those 6 rides could not have been cheap. I offered to try and at least pay something towards it and they simply said, “Thank you. We appreciate the offer, but we got this. You need this. You deserve this. And we genuinely ‘Thank YOU’ for your service to our country.” After I hung up the phone I just sat there in my bedroom and cried for a while. A lot of folks will say, “We appreciate your service.” and I thank them, but at times at least to me it feels a bit... forced or just the P.C. thing to say, but with OTA and their entire Voluntary Staff you know their sincere and can honestly FEEL THEY CARE.
This organization and its entire staff have helped my family and I and I hope to at some point be able to give back to them at some point even a small part of what they have given us.
I am looking forward to the Christmas Party I’ve heard a lot about that they throw for Veterans and their families and if they’ll let me I would love to Volunteer to help at that event any way I can.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
R.J.A.

On July 4, 2004 I had the pleasure of meeting Kristen Holloway and my life changed forever. For 18 years I have served this charity - as a volunteer. We have no paid staff and I had no clue how quickly taking care of our deployed troops would become a way of life. We have grown from an organization that operated out of our basements, moved to donated space at a National Guard Armory, then to donated space at a mall, then to renting a warehouse space. Now we own a building that will enable us to continue our good work in a great space. Our volunteers are special - they don't ask for recognition - they believe it is an honor to volunteer to serve those who volunteer to serve our country. We are truly humbled to read the reviews posted here. And I am so proud to be part of this wonderful volunteer staff!

Once we were told news of permanent work from home. I wanted to do something to help Veterans commute with my left over monies. Can't say enough wonderful things about Operation Troop Appreciation. The most valuable thing from what I see is they are 100% veteran centric. They don't stop bringing the best services available in town. If there is ever a question of "can they do it", they always figure out a way to get it done; all for the benefit and support of the veteran.

I have worked with OTA for more than 14 years, at first reaching out for their services to provide essential items for a start up program for women veterans facing homelessness . If it wasn’t for this organization it would have been impossible! They provided beds , household items, cleaning supplies, children’s items etc ! just to many things to list. Anytime I reached out for help they were there, providing a hand up to all veterans.
This is an amazing organization ! One that I know actually does what they say. ALL volunteers , not one person is paid.
You know that your donations are going directly to a veteran in need.
The most professional, dedicated group of people I have ever had the privilege to meet in my 40 years of social services. They are the real deal !

I have been volunteering here for a few years now and am impressed by the level of support they offer to our troops, especially during this current CV19 situation. We have been providing essential items that are difficult to obtain at local stores (tp, sanitizer, cleaners, etc). OTA has remained open throughout the CV19 period doing their best to provide whatever vets and active duty have requested.

OTA assisted my brother and his team multiple times while overseas and my brother mentioned on several occasions how great it was to get the packages with the simplest common household items. Absolutely incredible support to deployed military members. While every care package/letter received is great, a lot of the guys don't have families back home helping them get through this. Operation Troop Appreciation meets specific needs identified by the military member. At some camps you can get just about everything needed, at others--many everyday items are in short supply or never available. OTA goes out of their way to hunt it down and get it to us. That kind of personalized support is something you'd normally only get from family. For many, it is the little things that go a long way toward making the time away from home bearable. Thank you and please keep up the great work--your Operation is definitely Appreciated by the Troops!

We are very grateful for such an impacting gesture this was! Having something that gives us a little ambiance of being back home definitely helps us get through the days and certainly a morale boost during our down time. All of the requested items from our "wish list" continues to be put to good use almost on a daily basis! If we could include pictures, you would most definitely see the gratitude from the expressions on our faces. It means a lot to have and see support such as yours because some days it can get rough and to know we have others looking out for us who we don't even know is a true blessing. Being considered a hero brings a big smile to our faces, as we are honored and humbled at the same time. Their ongoing efforts to support both deployed and veteran military members for their service is not only commendable, it is truly amazing. I have seen this first hand and cannot be more pleased that I chose OTA when I decided to become a volunteer. OTA is totally 100% volunteer with no paid employees including the officers, Board of Directors and CEO! All work together in support of those who serve or have served.

Operation Troop Appreciation is an organization that works tirelessly to go above and beyond to fullfill the needs and wish lists of troops on the front lines. Packages that are sent are not only custom tailored with the items that each unit specifically requests but also includes cards, letters and "surprise" items to raise the morale of our deployed troops. They do their best to make sure our gals and guys know those of us back home truly care and have not forgotton about their sacrifices to ensure that our country is safe. I couldn't be more proud to be a small cog in the wheel that helps to keep the boxes flowing to those that need it. Those involved with OTA truly care and are dedicated to our troops and ensure that they know it!!

OTA is a wonderfully thoughtful organization! We worked at the Role III MMU (Trauma Hospital) in Kandahar – caring for the wounded, ill, and injure. The OTA care packages were a treat for the caregivers – many who work in 24/7 operational settings. Not every Soldier, Sailor or Marine may receive a care package from friends or family back home – OTA ensures every service member is cared for. THANK YOU!

This organization is amazing at what they do. They are relentless at meeting requests. When most people, including myself, would have given up, Kristen Holloway kept pushing to get me and my guys our TV and Xbox 360. There was a situation of not being able to send things to our APO address, and Kristen worked hard and never stopped trying to get us everything we requested. Now we have been supplied with a entertainment system all thanks to Operation Troop Appreciation!

OTA was the single, most wonderful care package my Soldiers and I received. OTA allows you to give a "wishlist" of items you actually need, while other organizations stuff boxes with random odds and ends. Kristin was very polite, and caring in her emails to schedule shipment, and clarify if our wishlist had changed since submission. She also checked if everything arrived fine.

OTA is an outstanding organization, and I couldn't have asked for more support... actually, I didn't even have to ask OTA.

In 2010 my unit was deployed to Afghanistan in a remote location, and I inquired about a nonprofit organization to help out my Soldiers. OTA came through and my Soldiers were very grateful for the many items that were sent. Today, I still have former Soldiers emailing me about that experience from OTA and their kind gesture. Now, again in 2014, I'm deployed with a new unit to Afghanistan, and OTA came through once again without hesitation. I spoke to my current Soldiers how OTA sent packages to my last unit deployed. They were surprised that there is a nonprofit organization that would go above and beyond to take care of Soldiers. They had a first hand experience to see some of the items and packages that OTA kindly put together to ensure safe delivery. On behalf of my current and former unit, thanks OTA for all that you do to continue supporting our great servicemen and women.

Hi sir/ma'am, My name is SSG Foster, David I am a squad leader who is currently deployed to Bagram Airfield in RC-E Afghanistan. This is my third time being over here in Afghanistan in five years. My first was to the same place as now but I did 15 months, my second was to FOB Edinburgh RC-South for 12 months, my third was to here now for 9-12 months. I am a 12B Combat engineer who clears the roads of IEDs, UXOs, and anything thst may harm my fellow soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, Coalition forces, and local Afghans. I have never previously interacted with OTA but I was most certainly missing out! OTA provided my CARCO Platoon with 50 Under Armour TShirts that we made platoon shirts out of cutting the cost to nearly nothing, a projector so we can teach demolition, patrolling, urban breaching and basic engineering skills to Soldiers when they're not on missions. OTA has been an an outstanding example of how "We Support The Troops" is said worldwide. I simply cannot thank you all enough and I am truely blessed that I was able to be helped by such an amazingly generous organization!

As the NCOIC for the Female Mentorship program here in South Western Asia, we requested female sized T-Shirts to raise morale for the female troops within our entire Battalion. We have accomplised this by bringing them together to perform various team building activities, such as a scavenger hunt, Warrior Challenge, and various other group activities in which they are required to work together, while wearing theme specific shirts. Mrs. Holloway and the Operation troop appreciation team were very helpful and attentive to our needs and concerns. I sent the plan shirts, which came in various colors and had a logo imprinted. The ladies were very appreciated for Mrs. Holloway's assistance and really enjoy wearing the shirts, doing group events, as well as on their free time. Being deployed can be hard on new deployers, newlyweds and new parents. I reached out to several organizations but the one that stood out the most was Operation Troop Appreciation (OTA). Upon receiving my request for my Squadron of 500 personnel, they quickly responded to me. With all that OTA sent, Service Members alctually took the time to enjoy the items when they had down time. OTA sent a little of "home" to where we where and for this, we are truly grateful! By yall showing care and concern, it is making our deployment a little more enjoyable. Our unit is located in southern part of the Afghanistan proving retro-grade mission. We all do remember the day OTA care packages delivered to our compound. Usually our mails get picked up by individual but that day the mail truck pulled in to our door step and down loaded huge boxes. First we thought it was something we ordered thru the contracting for the mission, but instead it was all from the Operation Troop Appreciation. That day was our happiest day during deployment. It was more than enough for every Soldier in our unit. We even shared it with other units occupied in our compound. Every Soldier in our compound thank you for what you’ve sent to us. Especially with the Under Armor shirts are greatly appreciated. Soldier in this type environment is all about morale and OTA definitely boosted our unit’s morale to the highest level possible. Once again thank you very much and please let us know what we can do to help after our deployment. We will definitely be a part of your sponsor when this deployment ends.

I first heard of OTA when I was in Baghdad in 2004. I was in the very first unit that they served. I received some UnderArmor from them out of the blue. I was amazed at how the UA worked in the desert heat and even more amazed that someone would buy hundreds of these shirts to just give away. Since I've been back, I've had the opportunity to help as a volunteer even though they are a two-hour drive away. To J-Peterson - I am not sure what interaction you had with Operation Troop Appreciation this year, and take full responsibility if your experience lead you to the wrong conclusion about what we do as a non-profit. Since July, 2004, we have provided over 136,000 deployed military members with "wish-list" items. These are items SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED by our troops because there is no military exchange store, or they are on a remote combat outpost, in the harshest of conditions and have no other way to obtain these items. Sometimes we get requests for socks and when we do, you bet we send the best quality socks we can get. We also provide veterans in poverty with beds and essential household goods or troops with extra protective eye wear. We send solar showers to troops on combat ouposts with no bathing facilities. And much, much, much, much more. And we do it with a 100% VOLUNTEER staff - no one gets paid at OTA - ever. So 98 cents of every donated dollar goes directly to fund troop and veteran support projects. I am saddened that you chose to give us our only negative rating, and hope that with a better understanding of who we are and what we do, you'll feel compelled to change your mind. Please feel free to contact me directly if you have questions or want more information. Monica Orluk, Volunteer President & COO of Operation Troop Appreciation.

OTA provided my unit with high quality socks during our recent deployment, and blew us away with their generosity. Socks are vital to any soldier's ruck sack, we are hard on our feet and if they give out the mission is at risk. The kind of high quality socks provided by OTA are preferred by my soldiers for their endurance, comfort, and breathability. Simply put, OTA was a great combat multiplier and a great reason for our success. Thanks for all that you do to support our troops.

OTA has made an invaluable impact on the morale and support of the soldiers in my unit. From the moment I made contact with OTA they have expressed a desire to support our needs in any way possible and came through in spades! Serving on the front lines in a difficult war takes it's toll on not only the people but also on our equipment. OTA supported us with reminders from home, MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) materials, and a huge shipment of high quality equipment that wears out quickly out here (socks, t-shirts, etc...). This organization goes above and beyond to provide necessities for our troops overseas! I have been donating items to OTA for over 5 years to help bring smiles to soldiers' faces. When thank you notes and pictures from the soldiers are posted on OTA's Facebook page, it lets all of us know that what is being done is a great morale booster for them. OTA is a wonderful organization!

I have been donating money and goods to ota since my son came home from the marines after doing 2 tours in Iraq. I would send him and his guys boxes and boxes of stuff every month. he said they appreciated it so much. after he came home and told me so many of the guys didn't get packages from their family and the things I sent meant a lot to these men. in 2007, when he came home, I wanted to continue to send things they needed or wanted and someone told me about ota. I do what I can and know that all the money goes to fill the wishlists of our troops.

OTA is a very humble, professional, and effective organization! Their mission statement is 100% true. It is all about our men and women who are deployed and give their selfless service and daily sacrifices for our freedom.
OTA reaches out to all people, including children, to create awareness. One of the biggest things I have read on the thank you notes is how the troops love to see the pictures the kids draw and all the cards that are signed. Their wish filled boxes contain these also.
I have been a volunteer since July 2013. Kristen Holloway, Monica Orluk, and Amanda Thompson are some of the best people you ever want to meet. All the volunteers I have met are very friendly, they are trained by Carol Hamilton. Carol is great at guiding us on how to make the public aware of what OTA is doing.
OTA not only reaches out to our deployed troops, but also reaches out to those who were in the military and families who have loved ones in the military. There is a guest book right in the front for all service men and women to sign. It is nice to see the public look through that guest book at all the signatures that are there. Veterans can also sign up to be informed of activities that are in their communities and be made aware of them. OTA has magazines and informational pamphlets for all the family members also.
OTA is very active in the communities as well with charitable events and promoting awareness. Most of the public is surprised and appreciates that when I tell them that we are all volunteers, no one on board is paid. That means that 98.5% of all monies donated goes right to support our troops with their wishes.
It is a joyful experience when you get to share time with a veteran from the past wars and they express their gratitude to what OTA is doing now. The feedback from the public that comes into the homestead in West Mifflin, PA is heartfelt. On the other side is the family members of our troops who come in and share their stories about how OTA has helped their loved one.
I have the pleasure of volunteering for this phenomenal organization as often as I can. I personally do not have a loved one serving in our military, but our troops are all of our loved ones.
I'm sure all would agree that OTA is definitely a Top Rated Non-Profit Charity.
I share with everyone I know the wondrousness of Operation Troop Appreciation.

I am currently deployed to middle east and I want to share my wonderful experience with Operation Troop Appreciation. When I left my family in May 2013 for deployment, I didn't except anything but misery for next nine months. My spouse and my babies (3 years old son and 1 year old daughter) moved to Phoenix, AZ from FT Campbell, KY on my birthday to be away from me. When I got to Afghan, I had to make adjustments to survive. Luckily, I was able to contact Operation Troop Appreciation online without any expectations. I wrote down the needs of my Soldiers such as Eye-Pro and brown t-shirts along with other necessities. Within few weeks, I started to receive multiple boxes including eye-pro glasses and Under Armour brown shirts. I also received cookies, books, DVDs, and personal hypiene products. Receiving tangible items were great yet the letters and post cards that came with the packages were even better. Everything that we do here in Afgahn is being appreciated by thousands of U.S. civilians and their support made me feel that I am doing the right thing by serving the country. Even though I am away from my love ones yet I have bigger mission and that is to serve as the Staff Sergeant in the United States Army. Hooah!!!

I never served, but I have two sons serving this great country, and know firsthand the love, dedication and commitment they and their military brothers and soldiers have for their country. I wish every American had the opportunity to see their humble power and God fearing strength. I came across Operation Troop Appreciation (OTA) by accident, and was impressed by the initial volunteer I spoke with. They did not ask for my money, only for me to write a caring comment to our troops. I listened to the volunteer tell OTA's story, their history, their mission and became more impressed. I wanted to help. I wanted to be a small part in something wonderful, something big. I wanted to be more than a military parent and wanted to be a boots-on-the-ground individual supporting those who cannot get or sparingly receive the simplest of items, e.g. soap, shampoo, underwear, hygiene items, decks of cards, snack items, etc., into the hands of our front line soldiers. We take our simplest items for granted, but they are luxuries to one who is deployed. I have little time to spare, but OTA was and is willing to take only the time I could give. I never feel pressured to give more, but find myself giving more than I thought because of the many rewards I feel, and because I know thousands of men and women are standing watch, are risking and giving their lives so I have my freedom, my comforts. I bought a small desk plaque years ago that reads, "American Soldiers Do Not Fight Because They Hate What Is In Front Of Them, But Because They Love What is Behind Them." If you know a soldier, you know that is a very true statement. Because of their love and dedication, I know I can never do enough, but volunteering for OTA, boxing packages to meet their needs, etc., gives me more joy than I can describe. I think of every soldier when I box the gifts of others, and know they will smile when they receive it. Their moments in time will be a little simpler. Thank you OTA for everything you do for our military, and thank you for what you do for me. God's Speed and Blessing's To Those Who Have and Are Serving This Great Country!

The story of Operation Troop Appreciation has gone past a review. Operation Troop Apprecation now has a history. A history of helping those men and women who have volunteered to serve the country in both hardship and peace. The caring that the organization has shown is second to none. The labor by the voulunteers are paid with knowing that our military is getting love and recognition back home. That we are truly providing support for those who need it. The love and compassion that the volunteers and those who donated to OTA are uplifting those soldiers, sailors, airmen's spirit can not be measured in any way.

Operation Troop Appreciation provides not only for the military, it provides an outlet for all who wish to help support those who are in harm's way. To show how much they care about them. It is a way so show appreciation for the freedoms that we have. To show the pride that we have as Americans.

Operation Troop Appreciation is a prime example of what the true spirit of caring about this country and the men and women who protect it from those who wish to hurt and divide us. Operation Troop Appreciation helps bind the fabric of what it means to be an American.

The story of Operation Troop Appreciation is quite simple. It is about Patriotic Americans who wanted to do more than just sit around and let others help. It is about getting involved in a cause that needs the support of the American people.

Operation Troop Appreciation has supported the fighting men and women of American since 2004. The organization has proven over the course of time that it will respond to those who need the support of the public.

The military can do and provide many great things to bring peace to those countries that have corrupt leaders in power. The military can bring law and order to nations without laws. Operation Troop Appreciation provides the military with caring and support that it needs to fight a better fight. Operation Troop Apprecation gives the military hope from the people. It provides that service to the military. The knowledge that no matter where in the world the military goes Operation Troop Appreciation stand by them.

I know about this caring first hand as I was one of the members of the Battalion that Operation Troop Appreciation first started to help. I am so proud to be part of the history of Operation Troop Appreciation. I look back proudly at the accomplishments that Operation Troop Appreciation has achieved and stare into the horizon as a new day is coming and our armed forces know that OTA is here to stay. We are going to make a difference to that soldier, marine, airmen and sailor one day at a time.

Til they all come home.

I was first a recipient of the benefits of OTA work when deployed to Iraq in 2005. At the time I did not know about the organization or even that what I had received was from this organization. Once I returned home and took command of the National Guard unit that was co- located with the organizations humble storeroom and packing 'facility' I met the wonderful ladies that started this organization and continue to make it great today!

That started my relationship with OTA that eventually culminated in my being asked to accept a seat on the board. How could I refuse?

Here it is already 2013 and I have been fortunate enough to be acquainted with the wonderful people that make this organization run each and every day. Volunteers that take time out of their hectic lives because the feel a calling inside, deep in their hearts to reach out and just say thank you in some way to those who serve.

The wonderful people that are the life blood of this organization cannot be underscored. It is because of them that the other thousands of generous hearts have a vehicle to express their gratitude to all serving somewhere at some time in some small way when possible.

It has been an honor and privilege to be a small part of this great organization.

As a volunteer for Operation Troop Appreciation, I have the opportunity to see what happens behind the scenes and what I have found is an organization that has so many people dedicated to its cause. When I learned that all of the staff members are volunteers and 98 cents of every dollar goes directly to providing "wish list" items to the deployed troops, I knew that everyone involved was doing this because they really wanted "to build and sustain the morale of deployed troops, enabling them to complete their missions with the assurance that the American public supports and appreciates their selfless service and daily sacrifices" as our mission statement declares. From the letters that I have read and the personal accounts from family members who come to events and headquarters, I know what OTA does is truly making a difference. I am the Supply Officer for the 223rd Engineer Battalion. We were deployed to Afghanistan in 2011 - 2012. I requested care packages from Operation Troop Appreciation and within about 30 days I received 8 Extra Large boxes in the mail. They were filled with all sorts of items from toothbrushes to shampoo to crackers to soups to flip-flops to blankets. We divided the boxes up amongst our 8 companies and all the soldiers were extremely appreciative of the items. This organization really helped out with the morale of our units and I am more that grateful for the love and caring shown for our troops. God Bless them!!

My unit is currently stationed in Afghanistan and was blessed to be sponsored by Operation Troop Appreciation. We recieved four two very large boxes of healthy snacks, and personal hygeine items, along with socks and underwear. We also recieved from Under Armour two boxes of t-shirts, socks and underwear. The weather is starting to get pretty warm here and a lot of our soldiers simply can not afford to go and spend lots of money on quality stuff that under armour was able to supply. I did not tell my soldiers what was requested, however when I brought the boxes in, it was like watching a bunch of children on Christmas day. really grown men who serve our country were actually giddy over the things we received. I can not think this organization and those who support it enough.

OTA provided amazing support to our platoon during our nine month deployment to AFG. The items OTA sent us greatly improved our morale and our quality of life at FOB Salerno. OTA even went so far as to put us in direct contact with a sponsor who provided numerous care packages of sauces and seasonings. Our unit eats every meal out of styrofoam "to go" plates and the food, while plentiful, is almost always short on flavor. The condiments that we received allowed us to build unit camaraderie during meal times instead of just choking down food.

Many thanks to OTA & Conroy Foods!

I have been involved with and have known of this charity since its inception in 2004. Not once have I seen the enthusiasm and commitment of its officers, board and volunteers waiver. It's obvious all those connected with OTA have a deep appreciation for and support of our men and women in the military service. How many charities do we come across where never once does a dollar go into anyone's personal pocket for their efforts, but in fact goes directly to the cause the charity promotes? The respect and love shown for our military by those associated with OTA is contagious, spilling over profusely to anyone who comes in contact with them as they continue on their "mission" to show support for our troops, wherever they are. No request to OTA is too small, too insignificant or too much trouble. It's a testament to their dedication that even the seemingly most difficult request is fulfilled, sometimes by others who see OTA's determination and who help to open doors to make "wish lists" reality. This is a true grass roots organization who has had a great impact on the morale of over 100,000 troops since 2004. OTA is truly worthy of note and gets my 5-star vote without hesitation! I have been and will continue to make periodic contributions to further their fine work.

I have just started volunteering with this organization recently and I can't say enough good things about it. While the government supplies the military with essential, needed items, deployments can still get very boring, lonely, or depressing without things that would be easily obtainable at home (one really cool thing OTA sent were blank Valentine cards for the troops to send home to their spouses/significant others; this was a great idea and made missing Valentine's Day a little more bearable for those who are separated from loved ones.)

The other great thing about the organization is that they use the money that is donated so efficiently. Ninety-eight cents of every dollar goes towards buying items for the troops or for shipping costs, which I think is fantastic.

Operation Troop Appreciation is a an organization whose goal is to make the lives of America's service men and women a bit more bearable while deployed. They organize events in the local Pittsburgh area which meet two objectives, to make sure the community keeps service members in the fronts of their minds and to raise money to provide goods for the troops. These successful and fun events, along with the strong business alliances they have made, allows OTA to maximize their ability to provide for America's fighting men and women. Despite their strong ties to the Pittsburgh community, OTA provides for service members from all over the Nation. Visit their website and read the testimonials from those they have helped. The efficiency with which this organization operates is unmatched. With an all-volunteer staff, 98.5% of all donations go directly to support the troops. When looking for an organization with which to volunteer, OTA's efficiency sold me. Too many other organizations put their donations into their overhead. Rarely are you truly helping the intended cause to the extent that OTA does. Being able to maintain that ratio while helping more than 80,000 soldiers is truly astounding.

Beyond the efficiency, the volunteers are relentless. They joyfully hit the streets to get the word out and collect donations. All in an effort to simply let the men and women currently serving our country know that they are appreciated. Not only do the volunteers joyfully hit the streets, we have never wanted for volunteers to help us pack up and ship boxes to the troops.

It truly is an amazing organization and it is incredible that something that started as one woman's good intentions has grown into an organization that has touched the lives of more than 80,000 folks.

Our investigations - contacting the soliciting organizations requesting the funds for details of the activity of the organization, investigating the non-profit filing requirements (form 990), and contacting other veteran organizations for their input, have convinced us that OTA is a bonafied service organization devoted to servicing our troops during the performance of their service to our country. I am most impressed that OTA's administrative expenses are only 1.5% of the contributions they receive - meaning the 98.5% of the monies raised go to supply our troops with moral boosting items - and, upon review of their federal form 990 that no one is compensated for their involvement in OTA.

My family and I have been long time volunteers for OTA. It is not only rewarding for the troops but for ourselves too. OTA is a wonderful organization to be a part of. OTA fulfills wishes to our deployed troops. Just reading the thank you letters and seeing the pictures of all the grateful soldiers warms your heart. Since volunteeing with OTA I have made new friends who have joined our packing parties or donation drives. It is truly a non profit organization because not one person gets paid. We are all there for the same reason to provide moral support and bring a little of home to all those overseas.

I can't say enough great things about OTA. Without them, many of our troops wouldn't have items to help them cope in the field. As a father of an Airborn RANGER Staff Sergeant (I'm pretty proud of that, as you can tell) I couldn't believe the "small" items that were NOT issued to our soldiers going to war. Made me wonder why I was paying taxes if our soldiers weren't equiped with the best items. In the first deployment, in all of that sand, they couldn't get gun cleaning supplies !!!! WHAT !
I sent the entire unit cleaning supplies. That's when I learned about OTA and all they do. Now, no matter how tuff my year is, I donate money to them. Keep up the great work Folks. Hooaah.

I have volunteered with OTA on many occasions, and I cannot think of more dedicated individuals. It was and is an honor for me anytime that I can work with them.
It makes me both proud and humble to be a part of serving those who serve for us. Our brave men and women fighting overseas give so much for each of us. They make it possible for us to enjoy and even take for granted the small creature comforts they we have. I think it's wonderful that OTA tries to bring some of those very same items to our deployed service members! It is but one small way for us to say "thank-you" and give to those who give it all.
All one has to do is visit their site to see the letters and photos of our troops to see what a fabulous job this organization pulls off!

I have helped as a volunteer on a few occasions and cannot be more proud to associate with this organization. Brave men and women give so much to this country, and with just a little effort we can show them how much we appreciate the sacrifices that they make. This organiation allows us the opportunity to do just that!

To watch the work and personal effort of the few that started this organization, to the many that are now involved is truly amazing. Along the way names and faces continue to be so important to the organizers. I can't believe that they know who I am! It makes me proud to support this group because it is a hands on "operatiom" and the work that they do is so important to our troops.

I am proud to have been one of the very first to contribute to this very worthy organization at the time of its inception. Since then I have contributed what I could, when I could, and have always been amazed at the efficiency with which it is operated. My hat is off to both Kristen and Monica and their "merry band of volunteer heroes". Not only does OTA bring a heart-warming "touch of home" to our brave and selfless troops serving wherever they all called, but OTA is unrivaled in its efficiency. More of my dollar goes directly to the benefit of those that I want to receive it, than any other charitable cause to which I contribute.

Please, I know the stress of our daily lives- but if you can send - OPERATION TROOP APPRECIATION- ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY- You can be sure that a military member- will BE -ELATED - TO RECIEVE A GIFT!

Keep in mind- these MEN AND WOMEN- have placed a comfortable -lifestyle- on hold- as they RISK THEIR LIVES FOR THE SAFETY OF - WE AMERICANS, WE ARE PEOPLE, THAT THE TROOPS DON'T EVEN KNOW- and are making a huge sacrifice.
Please reward our military with a DONATION AND YOUR THANKS AND YOUR PRAYERS!! GOD BLESS THE TROOPS !

I have volunteered for 5 years with OTA. The board and its volunteers have worked tirelessly to raise money and grant wishes to as many troops as possible. My nephew and his troop were recipients of OTA's kind and generous donations of Under Armor, sports equipment and various other wish list items. These brave men and women need our love and support every day. As long as we have troops overseas, OTA will do all it can to ease the discomfort of as many men and women as possible.

this OTA is an outstanding organization. They make our soldiers feel the support from home. We need more people like this.

Kristen Holloway and Operation Troop Appreciation supported my reconnaissance unit during the most violent period in Iraq 2006 - 2007. Because of OTA's generosity, my medics received lifesaving rescue hooks, my scouts and snipers received new tactical gloves when we needed them -- and after the Army said it would take 3 - 4 months to field us with that life saving equipment. Later, OTA served as a conduit for me to reach Ross Perot and other non-profit organizations that funded flights for a funeral detail for soldiers from Fort Lewis who wanted to lay a fallen brother to rest after he died of wounds suffered at Bethesda -- again, after the Army denied funding, though they later apologized for that decision.

OTA has touched my life and those of my soldiers so deeply I find it difficult to adequately articulate my appreciation. They have been a blessing. To me, OTA is a validation of the generosity of Americans; every day, they help Troops in harms way that they have never met -- they just know they are in need. They make me proud to be an American. In short, they are a wonderful organization.

I know first hand how much this organization does for our troops as they have sent care packages to the WV 201st FA during thier first deployment in Iraq. My husband is a member of the 201st and they are now deployed in Kuwait. Once again OTA will show their love and support with more care packages. Thank you OTA for all you do for all of our military!

I first learned of this program at one of my Rotary meetings last year. I immediately knew this was a great organization, expecially because they send over SPECIFIC items a Unit, Battalion, or other troops need. I think that is an amazing feat to undertake, and OTA has done a stellar job at doing so. Kudos to Kristen and her team! Thank you for all you do!

OTA is an amazing organization that has done so much to support the troops overseas. I am truly inspired by their great work and the amount of soldiers they have assisted over the years. We need groups like this one who is non-political and 100% behind the men and women who are serving this great county of ours. They supplies and wish list items really make a difference to those brave people.

Thanks OTA forall that you do!

I am so proud to be a small part of this outstanding organization. Operation Troop Appreciation is one of the most generous organizations I have ever been in contact with. We are all volunteers ... as the 98.5% donation from every dollar donated proves. I know the troops that we supply are grateful ... but the satisfaction felt by our volunteers is not something that I can express.

OTA is fantastic. Their dedicated volunteers are always willing to lend a hand in order to better the lives of a serviceman or woman stationed overseas. Several Easters ago my troop support organization was in need of some extra hands to help with our Easter project and OTA jumped right in. Over 25 of their volunteers came to help us meet our shipping deadline. Keep up the great work OTA!

OTA is the best volunteer organization I have worked with and has one purpose - support our brave troops. My sons at a young age wrote letters to the troops through OTA and learned first hand what this means to the men and women serving our great country. The wish lists filled by OTA for our troops is amazing. What a great organization run by a great group of dedicated individuals!

My husband and I have been volunteering for about 3 or 4 years. It is such a good feeling being a part of OTA. I think Kristen Querriera is so caring and just a wonderful person.

We volunteer at the mall at around Thanksgiving and I love to hear some of the stories people have about family/friends that are in the military....especially how excited there are when they are coming home.

I hope to be a part of OTA for many years to come.

In 2004, I decided it was time to do something for others and my preference was to help the troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. I read an article about OTA founder, Kristen Holloway-Querriera, on the 4th of July and how she was starting a non-profit called Operation Troop Appreciation. I cut out the article intending to call her the next day and proceeded to an event at Soldiers and Sailors Hall in Pittsburgh. In a crowd of 1,500 people, Kristen was standing next to me. The rest is history. 6 years, 80,000 troops and $1M in monetary and in kind donations later, I am President of OTA and couldn't be more proud of the work we do, the people who give tirelessly in support of our troops and of the troops we serve.

In 2004, my unit received 420 Under Armour socks and t-shirts, which helped our convoy security personnel survive the summer heat in Iraq. We were amazed that such an organization wanted to help us, and show their appreciation for what we were doing for our country. Since my return to the States in 2005, I have been a volunteer. I have seen OTA provide various supplies and equipment to troops all over the world. I live over 4 hours from Pittsburgh, but go there several times a year to help with different events, paying the expenses out of my own pocket. If I did not believe in this organization, I would not take the time to drive to Pittsburgh. This is a great organization with great volunteers, serving the greatest citizens of our county, our service men and women.

Operation Troop Appreciation (OTA) is a 100% volunteer organization that support deployed members of the military. It's 98.5% efficiency rating means you know exactly where your money is going- to the brave men & women protecting us! I have volunteered for OTA for about 2 years now, and it has been a fantastic experience. You know you are making a difference in every box you pack and every Thank you card you have signed for a soldier. It is so personally satisfying that it almost doesn't feel like you are volunteering! I have had the opportunity to meet the Officers and Board Members of OTA, and their heartfelt and unwavering dedication to our men & women of the Armed Forces is inspiring. They throw their hearts into this organization- and it shows! They set the example for the volunteers. There is no task too big or too menial they will not tackle with a smile. What OTA has accomplished in almost 7 years as a 501c3 is amazing- over 80,000 deployed soldiers have been granted "wish list" items. I know as long as we have soldiers deployed overseas, OTA will be there to serve them and honor their sacrifice.
