Review for For Pete's Sake Cancer Respite Foundation, Plymouth Meeting, PA, USA
Wow! What an amazing week!! It felt like time slowed down this past week. Starting the week off with a mindfulness yoga session that put me almost near slumber. The Woodloch Resort Poconos is a hidden gem that Marcy and her team has found for us patients survivors and our families to sneek away to. I must say this was the first week in 6 years where I didn't need something to help me fall asleep. The resort hosts dozens of low pact activities that can be done with the family. Bingo, Jeopardy, Basketball, walking trails, mini golf, and of course the lake.
Our facilitators Lisa and Lori Ann were absolutely amazing. They made sure that my family and every family on the respite wanted for nothing. For Pete's Sake Respite gives you tons of activities to do if you wish or you can just have a nice included breakfast and than a lovely nap. There is no pressure from the team for you to get involved in anything. That doesn't mean you won't. It's hard to not get up and walk the grounds and end up in the indoor pool for hours with the kids and all the other families as we found ourselves doing.
Before the end of our first full day we had made friends with 5 new families! For me as a patient survivor you automatically connect with the other patients to share our stories. It was beautiful to see my family open up and talk with the other families and instantly connect. By the end of the week we had shared stories of stress, frustration, and of course the pain of what a cancer diagnosis can to do to your family.
After a few moments of heartfelt story telling of how much we have endured and overcome with our diagnosis came the laughs, the jokes and the funny family stories.
Being able to have a week of not worrying about appointments, financial stress, overall cancer annoyance. To get up in the morning and have breakfast with my family which is a never. Not having to rush off to an appointment or to work instead we got to sit down to pick out what fun we could get into.
I want to wrap up this week and this review with a humble and very grateful thank you to Marcy, her family, and the entire team at For Pete's Sake to give me a well needed pause on cancer and a reunion with my family.
God Bless You
