Birds are so complex, and they need so much genuine love and care. People make jokes about how it takes a special type of person to have a bird, and I think that’s especially true for the person running Majestic Wings. Stinky (now Sir Lancelot) was, for over 1/4 of my life, my entire life. Words cannot describe what a HUGE portion of my adolescence was spent waking up to eating breakfast with him and going to sleep after having dinner with him. I tried EVERYTHING to keep him. I drove from Clemson to Myrtle Beach almost every weekend to see him when I went to college, made my dad put me on FaceTime with him to sing his favorite songs every day, and made copies of my house key and paid friends to play with him so I knew he had the care he deserved. It finally got to a point that I realized I couldn’t ask him to wait for me anymore and it was unfair to him to keep holding on to my dream of taking him with me into my adult life. Majestic Wings Rescue took him in without question and gave him a real shot at being happy again. I have seen bits and pieces of what his life looks like with his new mom, and I am crying right now typing out the words “He finally has someone who can love him exactly how he deserves.” Audrey makes miracles happen for these birds. I have seen what her rescue looks like, and I cannot stress enough what an angel she is to these animals. They genuinely eat better than I do, homecooked (chopped lol) meals every day, and you can tell she cares about exactly what their story is before she sees them and especially exactly where they’re going after. It has been so, so hard coming to terms with my inability to be His Person even now, but when I drove away from Majestic Wings that day I felt peace through the tears. Audrey gave me, Stinky, and his new mom all a sense of comfort and peace. I cannot thank her enough. She is probably the most knowledgeable, dedicated, and kindhearted bird rescuer I could find.
