Review for For Pete's Sake Cancer Respite Foundation, Plymouth Meeting, PA, USA
I was originally diagnosed with state IV colon cancer in July 2021 after being hospitalized for diverticulitis a week prior. My colon cancer had metastasized to my liver by the time I was diagnosed. I then went through chemotherapy, radiation and 2 surgeries - colon and liver resection in Feb 2022 and ileostomy reversal in June 2022. Hoping the worst was behind me, I was diagnosed again in August 2022 and started a new chemotherapy regimen which I became hospitalized since my body could not handle the new treatment. After the doctor was able to adjust the doses, I remain on a lifetime of chemotherapy treatment.
In my December oncology visit, my wife and I were told that I had about 2 years life expectancy which is not an easy thing to hear. It was right before this visit I had been nominated to go on the Woodloch respite with For Pete’s Sake Cancer Respite Foundation. Our trip was January 2023 and this was the first time in a long time I didn’t think about doctors or chemotherapy or hospitals. It gave me and my wife time to spend with each other and time with other families that are going through their own battles with cancer. Our stay at Woodloch was amazing and there were so many activities available as well as delicious meals. We can’t say enough about this amazing organization and staff. Carol is the sweetest person with a heart of gold. Everyone that has met her would agree! We are so blessed to now be a part of this amazing family.
