Review for The Taylor Family Foundation, Livermore, CA, USA
I have adopted 18 high risk and medically fragile children. . The Taylor family foundation is truly a godsend to our family in so many ways. This camp was originally built due to so many children contacting the HIV/AIDS viruses via mother and child transmission. It was a safety haven for almost 30 years for our amazing children who many have died in our population.
This amazing organization never charged for our critically ill children and our devoted staff to come to camp. They supply our camp with what they need. Children who have this disease back in the 80-90s had a very little chance of survival. Elaine and Barry Taylor saw that need and did something about it . Our kids were embraced, loved and treasured. Several of my own kids lost their own battles to this disease. They are the causalities of this horrible virus . Camp sunburst has always been a place for healing. Kids thought they were alone in this battle, but camp they truly find out they are not alone … and the power that brings us healing on our journeys all around. TTFF goes above and beyond for all the children that come through the camps that they support .
Our kids were doing 16-30 pills a day sometimes to keep them alive. Now the disease is under more control. In the United States prenatal transmission is almost nonexistent if the mother is on protection meds for her baby. This foundation has been a huge part of all the connections we have had in the HIV/AIDS community as a whole. Our kids were safe within the sanctuary the TTFF created , and they knew it. We provided different therapies for children who lost family members, had no family, in foster care and just stressed in general due to this disease. Camp is a place for healing.. if your lucky enough to be part of this amazing group you truly are blessed.
