Review for Crossroads Kids Club, Streamwood, IL, USA
My husband and I have been adult volunteers in children’s and student’s ministry for almost 20 years. In that time, with rampant access to digital technology and personal cell phone availability, there has been both positive and negative effects on this next generation. While the world is at our fingertips and information is easily accessible, many children are lonely, overwhelmed and struggling in many areas of their life.
We were first made aware of Crossroads Kids Club prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The idea of local churches sending trained and equipped adult leaders to connect with, and care for children in the schools, in their community, while also teaching the principles of Jesus’ love for them was something we felt called to support.
Then COVID-19 hit and schools were shut down and “stay safe at home” became the fix. Crossroads Kids Club quickly came up with a plan to intentionally connect their local adult volunteers to the children in their group via the Internet. They assisted leaders in getting connected and provided content for fun and interactional online gatherings. Relationships and the truth of Jesus’ love for children continued at a time when they needed it the most.
Slowly as things went back to normal, schools were still limiting people into the school setting as a precaution. Many adult group leaders were encouraged by the Crossroads Kids Club staff to find other ways to gather their small groups. Some groups met in homes and others used parks and picnic shelters. In that time of uncertainty, some groups had parents join in and families were welcome to participate and through that, they became connected to a local church in their community.
CrossRoads Kids Club is laser focused on its mission. It adapts and changes to meet the needs of those children and families they serve so opportunities for true life change continues to happen in a way that brings glory to God. We feel blessed to contribute to and support this organization.
