Review for Greenhouse Scholars, Boulder, CO, USA
Greenhouse is an incredible nonprofit that has changed my life and the lives of other young role models who hail from under-resourced, first-generation backgrounds. I first became a part of Greenhouse as a senior in high school and their Whole Person approach was extremely influential in making sure that I not only graduated from college, but gained the tools and knowledge I needed to impact my communities in a meaningful way. I received tuition assistance for all 4 years of college, a mentor who I met with on a monthly basis, access to a professional networking directory where I could network and meet with professionals across industries, access to paid internships through our many partners, and I was flown out to Boulder, Colorado annually to participate in a Summer Symposium with other scholars. It was through Greenhouse's Flex Funding (mini grants) that I bought my first laptop, which I needed to do all of my college work. Flex Funding helped pay for an unpaid research opportunity I participated in my senior year, which I needed to complete my thesis on urban gardens and food deserts in Chicago. I have met so many incredible scholars and community members through Greenhouse who have supported me personally and professionally. Even as an alum, Greenhouse continues the support in a unique, innovative, and much-needed way. The attached pictures are from an alumni meetup in Chicago where we got a chance to re-connect with alumni across several graduation years, and the other is from an alumni conference that Greenhouse hosts annually. Greenhouse isn't just a nonprofit, it is a community of diverse individuals who are creating generational, community change. I am so proud to be a part of this community.
