Review for Excellence In Learning Community Co-Op, Newark, OH, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Excellence in Learning Community Co-Op is a wonderful place to learn and have a sense of community. Whether you are there all the time, just for one class, or even an associate member, they want to help you facilitate your goals as homeschoolers. The co-op offers a lot of great classes, some athletics, drama, some musical instrument instruction, and ranges from pre-school to seniors in high school. The prices are beyond affordable and the classes provide a good variety. The people teaching, running, and volunteering are really what make this place special. Our directors and leadership will help you around the clock and way outside of our standard running hours because they care about the co-op and care about you as individuals and members.

Review for Excellence In Learning Community Co-Op, Newark, OH, USA

How we met: We came to Excellence in Learning Community Co-op,first virtually after moving into central Ohio. We followed their FB page and website for the longest time. Then we joined in person (we have a 35 minute drive since we live in Columbus). Though we have always homeschooled, we had never been part of a co-op before and I was super nervous. Joining with a baby/toddler was very overwhelming, but the administration team explained to me in depth just how easy it could be to contribute and they answered every question I had. They're just so great at accommodating the best they can. Mothers can nurse babies, make bottles, and change diapers. These are just normal parts of life and any growing family shouldn't have to wonder how/where they'll be able to do that while at co-op. I'm just obsessed with how easy it was to have a nursing babe and volunteer at ELCC!! They also offer flexibility, patience, and compassion to special needs families and special situations. They literally become your family and show up in a time of need, even outside of co-op.

Regarding academics and extra curriculars: I love the range of classes and teachers. Teachers are required to have background checks and yearly follow up checks to maintain safety and professionalism in the classroom. There are rules and protocols for security and I really just appreciate them so much. The teachers are people with a heart for children and teaching. My one son really thrives on recognition for his actions and the praise and kindness he gets from his teachers have really improved his confidence.

ELCC offers drama and sports like basketball and volleyball and this year they are adding cheer. This is an amazing and super affordable opportunity for so many homeschool families. They also have a special set of teen coordinators who arrange teen nights like a corn maze or bonfire.

It's the little things: ELCC has all the little things that I want my kids to experience. It has theme days like crazy hair day or anything but a backpack day & spirit wear like hoodies and t-shirts. They have turkey trots, field trips, field days, recess, science fair, fundraisers, student showcase, and every parent's favorite: school pics and a year book!! It also has opportunities like a mom's night out or do-dads meet ups for the parents to have some kid free time (sometimes family events, too) to build up our relationships as friends outside of the co-op.

The facility: We are in an older building that reminds me much of my elementary buildings in the late 90s. To be honest, I find a little nostalgic charm with it. It is not top of the line, but its "home" and we make it work. Our facilities coordinator works VERY hard to keep it clean and maintained. Her and her volunteers put time into everything from mowing to wiping down railings between classes. She isn't just the facilities coordinator though, she is another mom and friend to many and she selflessly serves our co-op. When you come to the co op, you'll see that this servant heart is found in all of the members.

The co-op just got a playground makeover this last summer and now has a newer and bigger playset, a new gaga pit, and a fresh coat of paint on the climbing structures. It looks great & my little ones love playing there at recess.

Excellence in Learning Community Co-op is amazing. The directors, coordinators, admin team, board members, and coaches are deeply invested in homeschooling as well as in contributing to YOUR homeschool experience.
