Review for Lord S Pantry of Downingtown, Downingtown, PA, USA
The Lord's Pantry located in Downingtown, Chester County, Pennsylvania provides food to needy families in the area who would otherwise go without. The Lord's Pantry has been and remains 100% volunteer. It currently serves 700 registered families an eight-to-nine-day supply of food which includes non-perishables, meat selections, fresh vegetables and dairy products. We also recognize that our families need paper products and personal care items, and therefore, we encourage donations of these items in order for us to supply them to the families. All of our families qualify for the food they receive based on their income of 150% of the poverty level. We believe that our supporters are critical to sustain, and more importantly, expand the effort before us.
I have been an off and on volunteer at the Pantry for the last ten years. Almost every week over the past year since retiring. Each week I along with other volunteers pick up food purchased with money donated and pick up food donated by the local supermarkets and deliver to the Lord's Pantry building in Downingtown. Other volunteers then sort the items and make available to clients who have registered with the pantry. Each week the building's two floors are filled with items, sorted and given away. Each week starts a new process. Very little stays around for more than a week. A lot of people in Chester County, Pa would go hungry if it wasn't for the Lord's Pantry.
In addition to providing food and help to the needs the work of the Lord's Pantry takes some of the financial and physical load off local social services. Thereby making it easier for them to fulfill their mission.
Society needs the Lord's Pantry. When some of us are suffering, we all are suffering.
