Have been volunteering for Open Heart Kitchen for nearly 3 years and never have I known a nonprofit which operates everyday with a singleminded goal of feeding anyone requesting to be fed, or housed (based on beds available) for those who ask for shelter. With several meal sites, grocery distribution locations, and an overnight refuge location, Open Heart Kitchen provides the right solutions for those less fortunate in the communities it serves.

Open Heart Kitchen is so instrumental in the area it serves that if they pulled out and shut its doors a significant part of local population would go hungry. With its meal sites and grocery distribution locations spread out in the area they serve they play an instrumental role for those dealing with nutritional challenges. Open Heart Kitchen is likely the most instrumental nonprofit in the East Bay for the role it plays keeping a significant part of the population from going hungry.

The reason I joined the Open Heart Kitchen board is due to being the one non-profit in our local area that is making the largest difference with hunger relief. Just last year OHK delivered 2 million meals to our hungry guests who come from all walks of life. It is absolutely the most essential non-profit in the SF Bay Area as no greater community would suffer more if Open Heart Kitchen shut its doors.
