Review for For Pete's Sake Cancer Respite Foundation, Plymouth Meeting, PA, USA
I was diagnosed with Breast cancer on 12/28/20. I had a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction on 2/13/21, 8 rounds of chemo from 3/19-6/25/21, a second reconstructive surgery on 8/5/21, and 5 1/2 weeks of radiation from 9/20-10/27/21. Because of our large medical deductible, we had tens of thousands of dollars of medical bills to cover, so a family vacation of any kind wasn't possible at all. My radiation oncologist asked I had heard of FPS, and I hadn't, so she told me all about their mission and what they do. She nominated my family to receive a respite trip to Woodloch Resort through FPS, and we went in the end of January 2022. This was by far the greatest thing that happened to my family during my cancer treatment. It gave us a time to just relax and be together, without having to worry about the next appointment, infusion, scan, or surgery. We were able to re-connect and strengthen our relationships and we just had the best time! FPS gave my family what I could not, which was a chance to decompress after a year-long cancer journey. The entire family goes through the cancer journey, not just the patient, and being able to watch my kids play and laugh like kids should, made my whole body smile. The staff at FPS are just incredible: caring, compassionate, loving, and generous. They truly understand the support that cancer patients need, and offer follow up support once patients return from respite. We've been to a pancake breakfast for families who have traveled, which gave us an opportunity to reconnect with some of the families that traveled at the same time. My whole family has truly been blessed by FPS!
