Review for Joy in the Cause, Tulsa, OK, USA
I was one of their team leaders for a couple of years when Lisa B was still active in the company. She trusted the leaders to take care of the community served. When she left, I had money from a personal fundraiser, from my deceased son's birthday fundraiser we do every year, to buy snacks to provide care packages to families battling childhood cancer. I wasn't even trusted to go to Sam's Club and purchase snacks like I had in the past. The new "people in charge" looked at me like I was going to take money from those families, families that were just like ours...battling childhood cancer. My family and friends had bought many snacks and donated a lot of money to this fundraiser, knowing right where it was going since it had been that way for a few years. My heart broke that day knowing I wasn't trusted with the snacks and money to provide these families while their child received treatment. While this wasn't a faith-based non-profit, God has His hand on it while Lisa was there. Now, it has gone the way of the world, not of our Creator. No trust. No true love for the community. No real dedication to seeing that those who need true joy in their lives after going through hard times actually receive joy from those who truly care. If you truly want to help the community, send your donations elsewhere.
Legally a nonprofit should be following General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) which require them to internally account for all donations. All funds coming into an organization must be deposited to be acknowledged. It's not a trust issue, it's a standards issue that hopefully all not for profit organizations should be following as stewards of public donations.
