Review for Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA, USA
Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh does so much for our community! Their newest effort operation PetsBurgh helps to bring animals from partner shelters (many of whom are over capacity and/or not equipped to handle the animal's special medical needs) to Pittsburgh for treatment and rehabilitation before adoption. Through their transport program, I was fortunate to be matched with Buttercup a senior chihuahua mix. Despite many health issues upon arrival, HARP provided her life-saving medical care and extensive behavior support (while she was in foster care) to help Buttercup learn to trust humans again. A year later Buttercup has transformed from a shy, timid dog who had no control over her bladder because she was so anxious to a confident senior pup who loves going on walks, is an expert traveler, and is even trusting new people. This transformation is just one of many thanks to the amazing staff and volunteers at HARP. On top of the rescue work, their community programs help to keep pets with their pet parents including Ellie's pet food pantry which distributed record amounts of food to pets in need during the Covid-19 pandemic, and their obedience training programs which use positive reinforcement to help owners train their dog(s). While their veterinary clinics are currently only seeing animals that have been adopted from a HARP shelter, their vaccine clinics are open to everyone and provide some of the most affordable and convenient ways to keep Pittsburgh pets vaccinated.
Very impressed with how much HARP can do without any financial support from local or state governments* our donations go a long way!
*HARP relies on donations and income from grants, some of which may be sponsored by various government agencies
