Review for Safe Horizon, Inc., New York, NY, USA
It is fair to say that I can hardly fathom one full star to rate this organization. I was a returning client for their legal service and had to see the sad decline of late. The staff's incompetence was undeniable on top of their cause being rather forgotten or derailed to crookery. Now reading other reviewers' accounts here, I acknowledged what I experienced, violation, deception and intimidation, were all common tactics of their operation. If so, these experiences of service recipients should be widely recognized as opposed to the organization's gala presentable, media accommodating stories and real hazard of DV and trafficking rescue industry: these crooks who are dependent upon victims of poverty and violence. During the pandemic, the barely operating office number finally yielded a live thread and finally assigned a legal representative for my case: minor paperwork but involved a major past case filed and come through with aid of a highly competent staff attorney at the time. The entire file was kept in this agency but they did not admit that it was (+Deception) Note the time it took from calling repeatedly to finally to get any live human's attention was a year and a half, indeed. So here came this legal representative. In the intake session conducted on the phone, she gave me an impression of a fool's errand already and her title unknown--or it was intentionally obscured? -- but I would be floored if she was a bar exam passing, practicing attorney, whose behavior was of sheer madness and outrageous incompetence. Her not knowing bureaucracy, laws, code of conduct in the field and how to write English disturbed me. At some point, receiving her emails, I nearly believed that it was written by a bi-lingual receptionist at the office to save the boss's time. Yet no self-respecting counsel would ask their receptionists to write for them. This established her quasi-illiteracy in English anyway. Despite her obvious challenge and limit, she assured that she would take my case and get it rolling right on the spot. The next thing I should expect was a set of documents sent to me via email. And she stopped communicating for the next three months. No said documents were ever sent, nor email from my end answered. When I almost gave up, she suddenly resumed her communication texting me at 2am to say she would prepare the docs at long last. She also lied that she had sent the docs while she did not communicate but she could 'resend.' No explanation for her negligence that stretched one entire season was provided. It turned out the docs she said she would send over email months before were unnecessary. And the big day of our meeting came. She stated that the very file for the dept. of government entity--our very objective of this case-- would be submitted in the same day or the next day the latest after summoning me to one of the vacant offices to make me sign the forms while they were still blank. For the next three months I only assumed we were just waiting for a receipt of my case being filed, if taking unreasonably long. As I had to inquire on the status of the process exasperated, she suddenly popped at my address at one Sunday night, in an attempt to keep me from filing a complaint. She admitted that the file was never properly sent out. The explanation she gave was because she 'put too many stamps.' I wondered if she meant postage or any professional seals. I knew she meant the former, however, because there is no seal to be put in this document to file. But this seriously alarmed me. She a clear case of the unfit to run errands, let alone legal matters if she even thought anyone would buy absurd lies as such. This, among all episodes I witnessed, seemed to establish that she was even lesser than a receptionist: even receptionists at law firms know better than sending legal documents by non-certified mail. I doubt if she actually had ever sent it, however, whether using stamps too many or too few. But she was there, assigned by Safe Horizon, acting as a legal agent showing outrageous level of incompetence as well as negligence. I should also note that in popping up at my address to confess her 'stamp fiasco.' with no prior arrangement, in call and text frenzy, she asserted that she had documents to deliver urgently to me. The docs turned out to be of no urgent or crucial nature. Was she trying to save postage now (or again) to cold visit her client in this quasi-violating manner? The truth was she showed up in fear and desperation to save herself from my exposure of her misconducts so far. This also made me grow apprehensive of what more she was capable of doing when her fear escalated? Stalking? Harassment? Threatening? Ambush? It was ironic that an organization as Safe Horizon hosts these kinds of stalkers and abusers as their representatives or affiliates, who retraumatize and revictimize recovering clients who had enough already. If only these crooks were more competent? That'd be a bad joke I'd never say.
