I have been a member of the Board of PCI for over ten years and consider that it is doing very important work to effect change in negative behaviours in the areas of health, social justice and environment through storytelling and social drama. The way they work with and through local partners in each of their programs ensures that these are closely attuned to relevant culture, values and needs, which is especially important for effectiveness of communications. Their media dramas portray local characters with which audiences can identify, attracting a wide following and providing both information and positive role models that are appealing. They generate follow up discussion among local groups which ensures a broader understanding of the issues and their application in the daily lives of their audience. In many cases they provide a communications component within larger development programs that provide support to a variety of activities, thus enhancing the impact of these initiatives.
