As a professional trainer and puppy raiser for Starfleet Service Dogs, Inc I am proud to support the mission, the animals, the team, and our clients. Sending the dogs off with their handlers can be challenging but Starfleet maintains ownership of their Academy dogs so I know that the dogs I have raised will be taken care of for life (including speciality veterinary care and rehabilitation if needed). If the graduated dogs need to retire (medical needs, loss of interest in their job) Starfleet evaluates all options for their welfare and wellbeing including retiring with the handler if they are able to meet the dogs needs usually while also getting another service dog (not often as Starfleet works with a lot of clients with terminal illnesses, multiple disabilities, and unique cases that other organizations do not have the training staff to meet), or the dogs come back home to their trainers/puppy raisers!
