It is a privilege and pleasure as a board member to interact with the extraordinary professionals of the MusicLink Foundation who work tirelessly to provide a level playing ground for children who wish to pursue their musical talent but are economically challenged. By offering musical instruments, music, performance opportunities, camp scholarships and linking eager students with limited financial resources to a professional music teacher willing to offer discounted and/or scholarship music lessons, the MusicLink Foundation helps pave the way for students to enjoy a lifelong relationship with music and its acknowledged benefits. Shortly after joining the MusicLink Board, I attended a performance of MusicLink students. The children were of all ages and skill levels, sharing the excitement of performing on stage of a major university. Their confidence was impressive, a reflection of their musical training. The performances were outstanding, but it was near the conclusion of the performances that i was personally touched by the impact the MusicLink program has on aspiring young musicians. An 8-year old MusicLink student, was gifted a viola by the MusicLink Foundation. The child's joy was overwhelming as he emotionally embraced his new instrument and immediately began playing. This young musician passionately continued playing his new viola non-stop at the post-performance reception. His smile filled the room along with his music...his joy was contagious! Today, that boy, now a young man, is an accomplished, award-winning musician following his musical dreams. While this is only one of countless MusicLink stories of "mission accomplished," it also reminds me of the great joy music brings to our lives. It is my pleasure to share the good news of the MusicLink Foundation, its mission and programs knowing that the organization contributes to the hopes and dreams of children in need who are eager to pursue their musical talents.
