Review for Hazon Yeshaya Institutions Jerusalem, Jerusalem, , Israel

Rating: 5 stars

Hazon Yeshaya is known as being the largest soup kitchen in Israel. But in reality it is so, so ,so much more than this. It is charity that supports the poorest of Israel's poor, regardless of their age, gender or race. Hazon Yeshaya fights poverty and hunger and aims to give individuals the tools to get out of the poverty trap and regain their dignity. Hazon Yeshaya provides life-saving support to Israel's neediest children, elderly and vulnerable citizens, by serving 15,000 hot, nutritious meals every day; the majority of which go to children. This equates to c 450,000 meals each month. Assistance is provided 365 days a year, including Shabbat and Jewish holidays, because hunger knows no holidays. Hazon Yeshaya also works hard to break the poverty cycle by providing vocational training courses and other educational programs. Enabling individuals to learn a skill which enables them to earn a living and lift themselves out of the poverty trap is at the core of what Hazon Yeshaya does. In addition, the charity provides social services such as free clothing, dental treatment and nursery school education.
I know a lot about the charity because I am a great supporter of their great work and, with my family, have volunteered at their premises in Jerusalem. Volunteer with them at one of their many locations in Israel and Hazon Yeshaya will forever be in your heart and mind.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Volunteering has enabled me to see first hand just how neeedy the recipients of Hazon Yeshaya's services are. I have also had the priviledge on a number of occasions to meet with the inspirational founder of Hazon Yeshaya, Rabbi Abraham Israel, who himself needed the services of a soup kitchen as a young boy living in Paris (having escaped to France from Egypt). Abraham starting serving one poor person from his home. He now serves 15,000 every day and doesn't take a penny from the charity for himself.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Give it more donations as the recent escalation of food prices is putting real pressure on its ability to help everyone who needs help.
