United Animal Friends is the BEST!! We have two UAF alumni that we adopted at different times...one in 2021 and the other in 2022. They have become the closest siblings we have ever had. Every day they make us laugh and smile!! And we have UAF to thank for saving both of them.
Our first UAF adoptee, Kiva, was rescued in New Mexico. Our second adoptee, Mavrik (originally Pete) was rescued near the Grand Canyon. If not for the work of UAF, their wonderful volunteers, and their partners, these two amazing dogs could still be roaming around those areas. Thanks to UAF, Kiva and Mavrik now know what it is to be part of a pack that loves them more than anything, they know the safety and comfort of a forever home, and they know the joy of having a sibling to wrestle with and go through every day with!!
We are so thankful to UAF for all they do for dogs and cats in Prescott and the surrounding areas in Yavapai County.
This is also a very transparent 501(c)(3)! There are not many non-profits that post their financials/tax returns on their website. There is a lot of competition for donor dollars in this area and it is refreshing to see an organization sharing that info.
Thank you, UAF, for bringing the furry joy and love of Kiva and Mavrik into our lives!
Review for Dogtree Pines Senior Dog Sanctuary, Prescott, AZ, USA
Second chances. We’ve all had them…usually granted by some other person in our personal or professional lives. But for animals, they must rely on us humans for their second chances. Those don’t always come along.
Dogtree Pines Senior Dog Sanctuary IS the second chance that senior dogs deserve! Dogtree Pines focuses on rescuing older dogs that are in a shelter or have been abandoned. These dogs typically have extensive medical needs. Senior dogs lucky enough to be rescued by Dogtree Pines receive an immediate health and medical evaluation to determine any treatments necessary. They are cared for and LOVED beyond imagination! They are fed nutritious, home cooked food to meet their own dietary needs and they get the supplements and medications needed to live as healthy as they can for as long as they can. The BEST part is, they get to live out their lives in a sanctuary environment that includes a warm, cozy HUMAN home, with the run of 3 ½ acres of fenced in pine tree forest, and they have a bunch of senior pals to hang with. And it’s very important to note…NO kennels, NO cages!
The first time I saw the current 16 residents at Dogtree Pines, I was overwhelmed. To see so many seniors together, some outside romping around, some in the house sleeping, many sniffing the new visitor to see what’s what….it was just beyond words. It was amazing to see these dogs flourishing, many who were barely given a chance before they were rescued. It is so joyful to see what exceptional love, good food, great medical care, a home, and security can give to these dogs that deserve every bit of it.
Many senior dogs that end up in a shelter may have had a past with a family, but for various reasons, find themselves dropped at a shelter at a time in their life when love, security, and care are so important. Many that are abandoned have had unspeakable pasts and just need to experience love and care to flourish in their later years. Dogtree Pines provides the love and care these dogs need, with a sanctuary environment that’s like nothing you’ve ever seen!
Cindy, the founder, and her partner, Bill, basically “do it all” at Dogtree Pines Senior Dog Sanctuary and they are giving these seniors a wonderful life, a second chance that they deserve. I am so very grateful and proud to volunteer at and be a part of this amazing non-profit.

We have been adopting only senior dogs for many, many years. All of our seniors have brought us double the joy, even though our time with them has been shorter.
We lost our previous senior in October 2020 and adopted our first pack member through UAF in November 2020. She was a "super senior" (12 - 14 yrs old) shepherd mix named Hanalei. Such a sweet girl, but we sadly and unexpectedly lost her after only 5 months.
Having lost 2 pack members in 6 months, we decided our hearts needed a bit of a break. We decided we would wait until 2022 to adopt again....which was 8 months away. After a loooong 2 months, we decided we would never make it dogless to 2022! Having had such a great adoption experience the first time, we started looking on the UAF website again. After much discussion on a road trip, we decided that we were going to adopt a younger dog this time around so we'd be able to share more of their life.
It was no surprise that although we were going to adopt a younger dog, our hearts were drawn to a dog that might not get adopted as quickly as others. Kiva is missing her rear right paw (but she doesn't seem to know this!). We returned from our trip, set up a meet & greet with Kiva's foster mom, and adopted Kiva the next day! We were so impressed with all the positive work that her foster mom (Wendy...if we can mention names) did with her! Kiva had been a stray dog in New Mexico when she came to UAF. When we adopted Kiva, she knew "sit", "down", she played with toys, was getting daily walks and hikes, didn't mind having her paws and "nub" touched, etc. We felt like all of the work that her foster mom had done made her transition to a new home very easy. She was a VERY happy girl!
We cannot even put into words the joy that Kiva has brought to our hearts and our lives!!! We are thankful to share each day with her. We thank the all volunteer organization of UAF, all of the wonderful fosters who provide love and care to their animals, and especially Kiva's foster mom, Wendy, for bringing this amazing girl into our lives!
We intend to get Kiva a buddy next year. Because of the positive experiences we've had with UAF, we will return to them to find her a pal who needs their furever home!
