I had known Cindy and Bill as my neighbors, but I had no idea how wonderful the Sanctuary was, right in our backyard. Cindy’s mother, Bonnie told me about the dogs, and my husband and I couldn’t wait to volunteer. What an amazing place. All of the dogs live in the main house. No cages, and there are 6 acres for the dogs to roam. Homemade meals with supplements for each dog, and hydrotherapy is provided. Most of these dogs were hours away from euthanasia, and are so appreciative of their new surroundings. We are so happy to be volunteers.
I am very honored to be a volunteer at dogtree! Bill and Cindy are amazing and give everything they have to help love and care for the senior dogs at their home. Senior dogs deserve so much love as they are wise and sweet souls ! Truly amazing on every level!!!!
As a donor, Dogtree Pines Senior Dog Sanctuary fills a gap in our community. So often senior dogs are looked over for a puppy or a more active dog. Dogtree Pines gives senior dogs the best days for the remainder of their lives.
Cindy is truly in incredible human being who gives a final (and happy) home to senior dogs, often with many medical issues. Her care and love for these animals is nothing short of exemplary and you can see in their eyes, the incredible gratitude they have for this amazing woman.
I found a post from Cindy on Facebook about my new dog King, he was slated to be euthanized because he was suffering from an upper respiratory infection. Also, he was weak from neglect and being on the run. I drove up from Scottsdale and Cindy had him resting with the local vet. She wasn't sure he was going to make it, but during the course of the following week he came around and she told me I could come and pick him up. If not for the sanctuary, King would be another statistic in the sad story for many dogs.
But he is on the road to recovery and quite a character!
Cindy and the dogs live just down the street from us and we discovered them when we noticed other volunteers walking the dogs. We were interested in helping out so we went to an info session and quickly became involved! My husband and I walk some of the dogs regularly and enjoy visiting the dog sanctuary. Cindy has lots of space, toys, and treats. The dogs are definitely in a happier place after she rescues them! Cindy has a big heart and loves each one of them and their personalities. She definitely gives them a life they deserve after their struggles.
I have known the founder of this senior dog sanctuary for almost 20 years. Her love of the 'elderly, neglected, sick or lame' knows no bounds. She opens her heart and what was her private residence to these sweet souls. What started out as fostering turned to rescue when the need was so acute and apparent it could not be denied. She took her own funds to build out the property (5 acres) to accommodate these disadvantaged dogs to help rehabilitate and medically treat them so that they may live out their lives in the beautiful setting of peaceful pines and become part of the family/the pack. Therapy pool, long (or short) walks (with or without 'wheels') in the forest and visits to their favorite two legged grandma (Cindy's mother lives on site in her own cottage), snoozing in front of a fire in warm cozy beds that litter the floor, with some choosing to sleep on Hooman recliners or couches...this is how they spend their days and nights at Dogtree. When their lives are drawing to an end, hospice care is given, and when the time comes, they are held lovingly to help them cross the rainbow bridge.
I called Cindy at dogtree Pines after I read an article about her and her mission in the newspaper. She didn’t call me back so I called again and I called again and then I thought she may think I’m stocking her so I didn’t call back. Wendi she called and said some people were coming to look at the sanctuary. Would I like to come up and I said of course I will be there. So I packed some gloves and trimmers and shovels and things that I might need as a volunteer and found Cindy’s sanctuary for dogs. After sitting around visiting and letting Cindy talk to the other people, they finally left and I just went to my car got my tools and started working in Hilliard. She said what are you doing and I said I came here to work and that’s what I’m gonna do. She laughed and said you know we don’t have any volunteers yet and we really didn’t know what to tell you to do , she goes that’s why I didn’t call you back. I did not know what to do with you. So I said I am here to work and that’s what I’m gonna do. I’ll just do anything I need that I see needs to be done. And that was the beginning of our long and happy relationship. I love all of those dogs every single one of them is so dear . And my little favorite Navi all day long. Just want you to throw him the ball and bring it back and he’s as happy as he can be. These dogs live in the house they sleep in the kitchen they sleep in the hallway they sleep in the bedrooms they sleep in the living room’s, this woman and her partner Bill have brought these dogs in and they are 100% family . I just love them.
Tucker, an 8 yr. old Great Pyrenees needed a home quickly due to a life threatening illness his owner, my friend, had. Several people expressed interest in adopting him and none followed through due to his size, and some medical needs. That is when Cindy Lamont, Founder of Dogtree Pines Senior Dog Sanctuary stepped up and gave him a home. Having known Tucker for many years I wanted to insure that Tucker was in a good place to meet his needs and I requested a tour from Cindy...that was when I fell in love with Dogtree Pines and all the residents. Each of the senior residents live in the main house with Cindy and her partner Bill, on beds which cover the floors of many of the rooms as well as human beds. Homemade food with supplements needed for each dog are provided for all meals. Walks in the pines on 3.5 acres greet each dog daily as well as individual walks, provided by volunteers, around the neighborhood if desired. Hydro-therapy is provided to improve many physical limitations of these seniors and all their medical issues are quickly addressed by area veterinarians.
After my initial tour of Dogtree Pines I couldn't return fast enough to help and be a part of this amazing sanctuary. I currently am on the Board of Directors and spend time researching funding sources to assist with the tremendous expenses incurred in providing the needed services to the unwanted, medically fragile, senior dogs who reside at Dogtree Pines Senior Dog Sanctuary.
I have volunteered with several animal rescue organizations, primarily in San Diego, ranging from small to large size, all-inclusive and senior animals. None has touched my heart as much as Dogtree Pines Senior Dog Sanctuary in Prescott, AZ. A couple years ago we moved to AZ to start a small senior dog sanctuary and I studied so many of the key success factors to operate such a place. We didn't find the right property to do this work ourselves, but when I found DTP I knew I found a very special place and incredible owners. I was so inspired that I joined as a volunteer, I wanted to join the magic here at DTP.
These senior dogs are not only well treated here, they are genuinely LOVED! Cindy and Bill are incredibly kind, compassionate, and knowledgeable caretakers. Many of these dogs have experienced abandonment, trauma, and awful conditions prior to coming here. But as I watch the transformations from lonely, sad dogs to happy, loved members of a large pet family, I thank God for this special place. A peaceful, loving, clean, well-organized sanctuary for their remaining years.
Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!
Second chances. We’ve all had them…usually granted by some other person in our personal or professional lives. But for animals, they must rely on us humans for their second chances. Those don’t always come along.
Dogtree Pines Senior Dog Sanctuary IS the second chance that senior dogs deserve! Dogtree Pines focuses on rescuing older dogs that are in a shelter or have been abandoned. These dogs typically have extensive medical needs. Senior dogs lucky enough to be rescued by Dogtree Pines receive an immediate health and medical evaluation to determine any treatments necessary. They are cared for and LOVED beyond imagination! They are fed nutritious, home cooked food to meet their own dietary needs and they get the supplements and medications needed to live as healthy as they can for as long as they can. The BEST part is, they get to live out their lives in a sanctuary environment that includes a warm, cozy HUMAN home, with the run of 3 ½ acres of fenced in pine tree forest, and they have a bunch of senior pals to hang with. And it’s very important to note…NO kennels, NO cages!
The first time I saw the current 16 residents at Dogtree Pines, I was overwhelmed. To see so many seniors together, some outside romping around, some in the house sleeping, many sniffing the new visitor to see what’s what….it was just beyond words. It was amazing to see these dogs flourishing, many who were barely given a chance before they were rescued. It is so joyful to see what exceptional love, good food, great medical care, a home, and security can give to these dogs that deserve every bit of it.
Many senior dogs that end up in a shelter may have had a past with a family, but for various reasons, find themselves dropped at a shelter at a time in their life when love, security, and care are so important. Many that are abandoned have had unspeakable pasts and just need to experience love and care to flourish in their later years. Dogtree Pines provides the love and care these dogs need, with a sanctuary environment that’s like nothing you’ve ever seen!
Cindy, the founder, and her partner, Bill, basically “do it all” at Dogtree Pines Senior Dog Sanctuary and they are giving these seniors a wonderful life, a second chance that they deserve. I am so very grateful and proud to volunteer at and be a part of this amazing non-profit.
