In April 2021, after 4 dog-less years on sea duty in the Navy, I was ready to rescue. Petfinder got me started, searching key terms like "black" and "medium-large" dogs. I fell in love with Chewie from his picture, but my experience with Canine Humane Network gave the experience an extra something. They were communicative throughout the entire process and extremely flexible. They sent us home on our 2-week trials with food, toys, crate, baby gates, lick pads--everything to set us up for success! Even after adoption, they got me in touch with trainers and responded to all my emailed inquiries as a concerned new dog mom. Five months later, we have a wonderful dog, adjusted to our schedule and attentive during training (he was thrilled to see a trainer he knew from CHN and pick up where they left off!).
