CHN has helped so many pups - including my first foster Truman. He needed a major surgery to save his life at 16 weeks old - and CHN got him all the help he needed. My first foster ended up being my furever pup and has changed my life forever the better❤️

We adopted a puppy from Canine Humane Network and I have to say I am inspired by every single person I've met from this organization. They are really on top of every step of the adoption process. You can tell that everyone involved gives saving these dogs their all - from our adoption coordinator to the wonderful foster family that gave our puppy so much love, care and comfort in the early weeks, to the adoption coordinator who is communicating with all the adoptive families to keep the puppies in touch. Canine Humane Network is amazing, honestly. So warm, so fun, so professional. It's been a joy to adopt from them and I absolutely recommend them. To Eva, Sharon, Robin and Lisa - thank you so much for giving our puppy the best start and for making the whole process fun and meaningful!

CHN is a class act and so are their volunteers! We adopted our precious little girl, Penny from CHN in May 2021 and we couldn’t be happier to have her in our family. Our AC Christy and our Foster Lisa were incredibly helpful and so responsive. In particular, Lisa and her family were immensely kind and generous with allowing us to visit their home several times to accommodate our family schedules and make sure it was a good fit for everyone. This is an amazing organization of passionate volunteers who all have day jobs but find the time to help bring more love and joy to the world by rescuing these pups and matching them with families. Highly recommend adopting from this organization. Thank you Lisa and family, Christy, and the CHN team for the gift of our Penny!

We adopted 2 puppies from Canine Humane Network, one in August and one in September. Our adoption coordinator, Lisa, was excellent, as was the whole process. Once I applied, Lisa was quick to respond so my application could get in the system. She paired me with a puppy exactly like I was looking for. My daughter wanted to adopt a puppy as well. Lisa kept an eye out for what she wanted in a dog and matched us to him. When he came to us, we were also able to foster his sister, which was a blast. The rescue had everything available for me to make the fostering of 2, 8 week old pups easy. Getting them was quick and seamless.
I have not worked with many other rescue organizations, but my daughter put in applications at several rescues and no one got back to her. I also had a friend who experienced the same thing. I highly recommend this rescue and will be telling all my friends.

Our coordinator, Lisa, is very informative and helpful. And the foster family is great of taking care of those pups. They are honest and supportive throughout the entire process, showing their passion of rescuing and true love to those puppies. CHN makes this wonderful thing happened to us. Lisa D’Antoni was the biggest help. She worked with me for so long to find the perfect pup for our family. She constantly followed up with dogs arriving in a time frame of adoption, was quick to reply to all messages, and followed up post-adoption. I could not ask for better help. I would recommend anyone contact her regarding rescuing because she made the process so simple and understandable and went above and beyond to ensure everything worked out. In addition- the foster family (Liz and Jeff) provided so much information and did an incredible job assisting with the rescuing of our pip. Thank you Lisa and foster family Liz and Jeff! We love our new family member!

Our family decided it was the right time again to adopt a dog so our 12 yo sweet hound could help us train our new family member and put a bit of silly joy into her sunset years. We found CHN through Petfinder and filled out an application for a rescue we found whose description sounded like a good fit for our family. Our experience adopting our new little hound from CHN could not have been a better experience. Her description was spot on, the Foster family was so lovely to meet and they'd taken such good care of her. Our contact at CHN and the Foster family kept in touch for the two week trial adoption period as we exchanged pictures and made sure she was a good fit. The training resources CHN provided as well as the CHN Facebook group made us feel that we are part of a large rescue family. We posted a picture of our little lady to the group and everyone that had a part in helping rescue her chimed in with their joy. It was such a great way to see how much work and love goes into making sure these rescues get the best lives possible. We would definitely recommend rescuing, fostering, volunteering for CHN to anyone that has a space in their hearts, homes, lives to help these little furs find their forever homes.

In April 2021, after 4 dog-less years on sea duty in the Navy, I was ready to rescue. Petfinder got me started, searching key terms like "black" and "medium-large" dogs. I fell in love with Chewie from his picture, but my experience with Canine Humane Network gave the experience an extra something. They were communicative throughout the entire process and extremely flexible. They sent us home on our 2-week trials with food, toys, crate, baby gates, lick pads--everything to set us up for success! Even after adoption, they got me in touch with trainers and responded to all my emailed inquiries as a concerned new dog mom. Five months later, we have a wonderful dog, adjusted to our schedule and attentive during training (he was thrilled to see a trainer he knew from CHN and pick up where they left off!).

I adopted my most precious lady from CHS. They work selflessly and tirelessly to save dogs not just from Maryland, but nationwide. My dog, for example, was rescued from TX, after she was wantonly abandoned on the street along with her mom and brother, in the blazing Texas heat. Forever grateful for this organization. Just as I adopted my precious girl, I like to think that my CHS adoption coordinator “adopted” me too! Shout out to Eva! Since BEFORE day 1 to present, she literally is on-call and responds nearly immediately to every call or text, including my crazy dog questions and random commentary . You can’t go wrong with this organization, they provide 24/7 support, and endeavor to leave no behind. Run, don’t walk to go support CANINE HUMANE SOCIETY!!!!!!

I accidentally stumbled upon Canine Humane Network while we were looking on Petfinder for another fur baby to add to our family. The entire process was positive. I appreciated all of the questions they asked us to make sure we were getting paired with a dog that fit our family and lifestyle. I love that they were very honest about previous knowledge or lack of knowledge of our pup. She has been such a little burst of love and energy.

During COVID madness we figured it was the best time to get a dog. We decided to dip our toys by fostering and we never looked back. Flossie is our “foster fail” as after 2 months with her we couldn’t imagine our family without her. Since adopting her we have fostered 4 more dogs. The staff and volunteers at the shelter are AMAZING and always go above and beyond. They make fostering so easy so that you can reap all of the reward. It feels good giving dogs a chance to feel safe in a home instead of stuck in a shelter. They have also made the adoption processes seamless and easy.

I wasn’t looking to adopt a dog but when I got the call that a German Shepard in need came in I decided to foster him. He was skin and bones, had obviously been on his own a long time.
CHN provided all the health care he needed, access to trainers and gave me the tools I needed to get him healthy and adoptable.
Buddy is now a much loved member of our family, and it’s all because CHN cared enough to save him from being euthanized. He was going to be euthanized because German shepards are hard to find homes for!!
Thanks CHN!!!

We love our foster fail Mac whom we fell in love with while fostering him and had to adopt him. We have now fostered 18 dogs for CHN and we love being a part of the happy ending.

I’ve been a foster for CHN for about 3 years. And fostered so many puppies I can’t count, In fact, my neighborhood is filled with CHN rescues that I fostered. It’s amazing to see them flourish and grow up.

❤️ A great rescue to work with! They are run by people who love dogs and really care about saving them!!! Every time I go to the rescue, it makes me so happy and leave smiling.
Great, loving people that truly have a gift of giving and love and hearts of gold!

The Canine Humane Network is an amazing non-profit. They are always on the front lines trying to save the next dog, or puppy. The hours that they dedicate to our four legged friends and families is an inspiration. When I fostered Boomer they supported me every step of the way. And of course I was a foster fail, no way I could ever give up Boomer!

When the dog that I eventually adopted first arrived at CHN, she was in bad shape. She was pregnant, heartworm positive, mal-nourished, and had been shot with a pellet gun!!! CHN paid for all her medical expenses, and volunteers cared for her until she was ready for me to adopt. They are Heroes!

CHN is a great organization! They care about the dogs they save and make sure that the dogs and their new families are a good fit. I love that they place the dogs with fosters while they look for the adopters. This reduces the stress on the dogs, and lets them really get to know the dogs so they can make that perfect match. I was thoroughly vetted and then they worked with me to find the dog that fit best into my life. Willa is Now part of the family. She loves hanging with the kids, hiking, camping, chilling on the couch and most of all, belly rubs.

We adopted our sweet coonhound mix pup from them about a year ago when he was about 4-5 months old. He was born and raised at the rescue because his mom ended up there while she was pregnant. I can’t say enough about how awesome they are. Because of the great start he had at CHN, he is now the most well adjusted dog we’ve ever met. We can touch any part of him (ears, tail, paws, mouth) with no issues and we know he was socialized to all kinds of people and pups while he was there, because he has great confidence in nearly any new situation. We firmly believe that CHN helped him to be the good boy he is today. We would absolutely adopt from them in the future and have recommended them to friends who were looking to adopt.

We adopted a wonderful puppy from CHN. From our initial contact with them via email through today (7 months later) has been simply wonderful. They truly care about the animals they work with and that they fit well in their new home. I remember a follow up email about a week and then again a month after Knight was placed with us. We also have taken their puppy training class, which was also very good for the family, as well as our dog.

I have worked with, volunteered with, fostered and adopted from Canine Humane Network. It truly is a network of people working together to help a great cause. CHN is a team, and I don’t use that word lightly, of people working hard to rescue and place dogs in their forever homes. I have witnessed the hard work, dedication and support system that this group commits to every single hour, of every single day. There is no time off in rescue, but they work together, and have built a substantial team of people that truly care. Their hearts are in this, and it’s visible to anyone that has been through an experience with CHN as a volunteer, adopter, or foster. I live quite a distance but choose Canine Humane Network because of their compassionate way of being, and their true dedication and commitment to making an impact- a real difference, in the rescue community.

Canine Humane Network has made it possible for us to adopt a pet in need of home. They were very helpful and accommodating with our needs. We did a week trial to make sure that the dog we were getting would be compatible with our other dog. Everything worked out well with the week trial and we finalized the adoption. The process was smooth and all the staff members are beyond amazing! We couldn’t be more happy with our Loki. I highly recommend Canine Humane Network to everyone who is looking for a great place to adopt a pet!

We adopted our pup Jinny from CHN 2 years ago. We truly could not imagine a better fit! Then CHN invited me to their adopted dog Facebook page and I loved seeing updates about other CHN dogs. Who could resist constant adorable dog pictures? But then I also saw requests for help and volunteering. I had considered volunteering with a shelter in the past and never ended up doing it. So I decided to sign up and I'm so glad I did. I started with a few small roles then eventually was asked to join the adoption team. I was an adoption counselor for about a year until I scaled back due to my (inconvenient) full time job. But I still find whatever ways I can to still volunteer! I have met the most wonderful, caring, dog crazy people through CHN. But most of all I found my fur baby, which I will forever be grateful for.

This is truly an amazing place. Meticulous care is provided to dogs from the worst of circumstances. Likeminded people volunteer their time to save dogs. Full medical care is provided before adoption. Support is given after adoption. Honest information is provided about the dogs, where other rescues seem to say anything to get people to adopt. Highly highly recommended.

PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS BEFORE TRUSTING THIS ORGANIZATION. This might be a one in a million experience but people deserve to know what this place has done. I got a dog from this horrible organization as a foster to adopt. Shortly after, I realized he was sick and took him to the vet. I took him to two separate appointments. I found out he had bladder stones and the vet recommended surgery. I was told I couldn’t make any decisions as a foster so the vet had to contact the shelter. I WOULD HAVE HAD THE SURGERY THAT DAY IF IT WAS UP TO ME. As soon as CHN found out they stopped communicating with me. THEY NEVER CALLED ME. EVER. The few times I ever spoke to them over the phone was when I called them. I got more info through the vet then I did them. I was constantly told they’d “call me back”. I Told them on Monday 9/9/19 I was bringing him back because to me I thought they’d finally get him the $1500 surgery he needed. And I really hope they do. This dog is my main concern. This has all happened within two weeks. The vet appointment was 9/3/19. I waited a couple days to hear from them and when no one contacted me I called the vet. The vet had cut all ties with CHN. No one at that vet could say anything good about CHN when I asked how they felt about them. The same day I found out they hadn’t made any plans for surgery I told them I was taking him back because I’d waited long enough and I didn’t want to waste anymore time. So I told them I’d bring him back. Last night I made plans to bring him back Sunday-keep in mind this was an incredibly hard decision to make. I couldn’t get him the surgery since I don’t own him and they weren’t making any plans or making any progress whatsoever. I thought if I brought him back they’d finally take care of him. Today (9/13/19) I got a phone call from THE POLICE they reported me for 1. Having a sick dog and refusing to get treatment (took him to the vet 2x in one week) 2. Refusing to pay for him (he’s a foster to adopt which means there’s a trial period. DURING THE TRIAL PERIOD WE DISCOVERED HE WAS SICK!) 3. Refusing all communications with the shelter. THEY wouldn’t answer MY calls. 4. Threatening to shoot the dog in the head over taking him to get treatment. Seriously. They said that. I swear on my life I’ve never and will never say that and absolutely would never ever do that. It takes some sick minds to come up with and accuse a 19 year old girl of that. This organization is a mess. I do not trust them to get this dog surgery and they won’t let pay for it. Im writing this review in the hopes someone sees it and it puts a little pressure on them. I want this dog to get better and I really hope they do too. Please get him treatment. They contacted me constantly throughout the trial period about how everything was working out and when did I want to officially adopt them. Most importantly when I’d pay $350 for an unhealthy dog. However the second I discovered he was sick and needed surgery there was radio silence on their end. I have not gotten a phone call, text, or email since 9/4/19. Since then I have made all communication efforts even though I was promised “they’d call me back”. This is important. You’re a dog shelter, take care of your animals and be decent human beings. It scares me that the second someone is concerned about one of their dogs their response is to file a police report. I do not trust these people and I think their “charity” is a scam.

I joined this organization the end of February 2018, when the dog center came to our village. I have walked dogs, cleaned, played, participated in a community cleanup day at the site, and fostered then adopted a dog from this organization, and engaged in my new dog’s training classes on the lower level. I have seen many, many dogs rescued, trained and adopted in the last six months. It is very gratifying to see a dog that is fearful and has been mistreated become relaxed and trusting on our walks around the property and in the house environment. Everyone I have worked with has been well trained and committed to commendable service. We hear back from happy adopters all the time on Facebook with fresh updates on their dog’s progress. Hooray for CHN of Highland!

Outstanding organization and Team of people doing GOOD!

I am an avid volunteer, as well as current foster at CHN. I joined this incredible organization and Team of devoted individuals in support of their mission in June of this year. I had been wanting to volunteer and foster for some time. The rescue is close by, and I can tell you, this is an unbelievably devoted bunch of dog lovers (staff, volunteers, etc.) that go above & beyond -- day in and day out!

I've enjoyed every minute of helping - both at the Shelter, and with the pups I've fostered & continue to foster along as they transition to FURever homes. There is nothing more rewarding then spending your time at CHN and knowing that you are helping to save lives and to help a helpless animal to learn that not all humans are bad in this world.

I would encourage & challenge everyone in the area with some spare time and TLC to share, to contact CHN to see how you can help. No task is too small. Volunteer, Foster, Transport, ADOPT! etc. I assure you, you WILL NOT regret it. It will pay soulful dividends. (Racheal F.)

I am a volunteer at Canine Humane Network, we are almost all volunteers that work to save the lives of unwanted and injured dogs to get them homes where they will be loved and cared for. We have many dogs in foster care but also have a shelter with dogs that need placed. Every time a dog gets a new home it is a wonderful feeling. We also offer training classes for your dog and pups. Check out our site for more info on classes: http://caninehumane.org/training/training-resources/
