Review for Spay Panamas Animals Yes USA, Pooler, GA, USA
We, Jeannine and us, Panama Andy’s can not be anymore grateful with Spay Panama for the impact that their Low Cost Sterilization Clinics signifies to small towns in the interior of Panama
With their help, during the pandemic, since July of the last year more than 1400 dogs and cats have been sterilized, being almost half of them from the small town of Gorgona.
Gorgona is a very poor town, where the local families have multiple pets, most likely pets that they found or allowed them to seek shelter in their yard, and were kept in spite of not having resources for them selves becoming their pets. Their pets are let you roam free, never dreaming of taking them to the local Veterinary Clinics where the cost of sterilization is a 3 digit number, almost a months salary for most.
Sadly without access to sterilization for their pets, these were reproducing geometrically and were being thrown in plastic bags into the fields, river or ocean. Sometimes found skin and bones wondering the streets. The cases of TVT were also abundant, and for 2 consecutive years Distemper also hit hard our towns, but that has also improved since thanks to Spay Panama almost 350 dogs have been vaccinated.
The impact that Spay Panama’s work signifies is unmeasurable. Not only benefits the animals but changes the hearts and mind set of the locals.
Before Spay Panama, they didn’t have a solution to their problem, not a reachable solution at least, and they needed to harden their hearts to deal with the consequences of not being able to sterilize their pets, and having more mouths to feed, mouths that in a few months would have been reproducing as well.
Their hearts needed to harden to commit the terrible act of abandoning and letting a being die, slowly, something unthinkable and unimaginable for us.
Since 2015 we have been working trying to change their mind set and it was challenging. They no longer saw sterilization as a necessity. It was an education process and in some instances an small amount had to be paid to take their pets to be sterilized.
As a Volunteer for Panama Andy’s we were trying to do our best taking 30 Pets at the time with their respective Owners to the available Sterilization Clinics in the surrounding areas, yet the progress was almost none.
Spay Panama has always accommodated us, motivating us to work diligently to continue with the sterilizations, either allowing us to bring the cats and dogs to the City to their Clinic or by them bringing their entire Clinic, Doctors and Volunteers to our forgotten Towns.
The Families that have been helped are extremely grateful. They no longer look at the other side, now they know that their is help and it is accessible.
