I'm a witness of the great job SpayPanama is doing, not only neutering cats and dogs to control its population, but also in changing the culture and mindset of most people wanting to breed cats and dogs for a profit in educating people that it's best for the pets to be neutered and that adopting is better than buying a pet.
I'm a witness of all the great work SpayPanama is doing. I adopted Tiger, Manchita, Lili and Reds. All were stray cats and neutered by SpayPanama!!
I had the opportunity to observe and participate with the work done by spaypanama. This has helped tremendously to control the population for unwanted dogs and cats in the streets who suffer at times terrible cruelty. I've also adopted 4 cats from spaypanama, all spayed and neutered. Seeing them grow and play is an extremely gratifying feeling. We help them and they give us joy. A big standing ovation to Spaypanama's work.
What an outstanding organization! The staff is very professional. My dog has been treated there several times and I've taken other pets to be spayed/neutered. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Spay/Panama.
Great help always, whenever I've needed their advise or service they've answered asap! Thank you for all the hard work you do.
I am a veterinarian. I have known about Spay Panama since 2006 when I had opportunity to participate. I have been back many times, on some trips my techs also volunteered and accompanied me. Spay Panama started in 2001 when one woman, Pat Chan, upon her retirement devoted herself to her dream of stopping the suffering of Panama's street animals caused by their exponential over reproduction. To date Spay Panama's low cost program has sterilized over 200,000 of Panama's dogs and cats. Think of the suffering that has stopped. All surgeries are done at cost. The person bringing the animal (s) is asked to pay the cost, but no one is ever turned away. All moneys donated go to covering the medical costs of the surgeries, not administrative costs or salaries. The staff are all volunteers. Many volunteers are animal owners/care takers who learn about the program and how they can help (and that their help is needed and appreciated) after they bring an animal(s) in to be fixed. The only salaried people are the vets. An additional, initially unforeseen benefit that Spay Panama created is its volunteer training program for veterinarians to learn its High Quality, High Volume Quick Spay techniques. There generally is a waiting list of veterinary volunteers from around the world to partake in this training. While with Spay Panama foreign volunteers interact with and get to know local people. They are also guaranteed opportunity to be tourists all while they are helping Panama's poorest four legged citizens.
Spay helped me to spay and neuter countless cats in Panama, helping reduce and control the number of stray cats in the streets.
SPAYPANAMA, PAT CHAN, THE AMAZING VETS AND HUNDREDS OF DEVOTED VOLUNTEERS ARE A TRULY AMAZING TEAM HELPING TO MAKE PANAMA A BETTER PLACE FOR ANIMALS AND PEOPLE! We love animals, especially felines, and from the time we moved to Panama in 2005 when we first learned about SpayPanama, we have been helping out because we were so impressed with the dedication of other volunteers and the well-organized, "assembly-line" efficiency of the spay/neuter operation--both in the clinic and in the "blitzes" wherein SpayPanama takes its services out to the communities in need. Here in Panama City in our neighborhood, we have rescued at least 50 cats and taken them all to SpayPanama where they received excellent care as they were not only spayed or neutered but cleaned, de-flead, checked medically...with love and care from all. It is a joy to be part of the "SpayPanama family." Sharon & Curtis ("Casa Bok")
I have been a volunteer with SpayPanama for the past several years and continue to be overwhelmed with the incredible good this organization does. I’ve seen so many street animals professionally spayed and neutered along with countless household pets. The people who work with Spay follow the caring leadership of Pat Chan and treat every animal with care and respect. No one is ever turned away because they can’t afford to pay. Panama is definitely a better place because of the work done by SpayPanama!
I was fortunate to be able to travel to Panama to participate in over a week of spay/neuter services with Spay Panamas Animals Yes. I was able to do 2 trips where we traveled to cities in need, and do surgeries from morning to night, we slept on the ground and depended on local residents for some meals. The team, especially Patricia Chan, was professional and devoted to delivering the best possible care for all the animals brought to us for surgery. In the home clinic on other days, we worked tirelessly treating and altering the animals brought in for spay/neuter.
It was incredibly rewarding to see the extent of caring and work that the organization goes to in order to further the goal of preventing unwanted puppies and kittens from being born, along with the expertise to treat other conditions that came up along the way. Being able to be a part of helping people who did not have the financial means to use the services of a regular veterinarian, being part of a team who showed such compassion and professionalism, was an experience I will always treasure. I have worked with many other non-profit groups, but this one was the most rewarding and deserving of a 5-star rating.
The Spay Panama team under the leadership of Patricia Chan and head veterinarian Dr Agusto have focused on the solution to pet overpopulation! Their trainers have passed their proven surgery system on to many other veterinarians including - Spay El Salvador - Spay Peru and a most recent training at Planned Pethood international Training Center - Puerto Morelos, Mexico
It is an honor to confirm how effective, how dedicated and how loving the Spay Panama Team has become!
Congratulations to Spay Panama.
Sincerely, Craig Neilson
Spay Panama is an organization run by tireless volunteers who care for animals to their core. I first encountered Spay Panama three years ago when visiting Isla Saboga. The owner of an AirBnB told me about the selfless work they had done on the island by spaying, neutering, vaccinating and providing pet care information for locals. The following year I visited the Spay Panama clinic to look into bringing a group of teen volunteers to help out with clinics. I am a teacher and am always looking for service opportunities for my students. And finally, in February I brought two teenage girls who want to be veterinarians to volunteer. The experience was unforgettable! I gave the utmost respect for every single volunteer at Spay Panama. The work they do to end the suffering of animals is amazing! I’m so happy I found such a wonderful organization. If you love animals and are able to donate, this organization is very deserving.
My experience at Spay Panama was one I’ll never forget. I learned so much in quite a short time. The doctors and volunteers were very friendly and helpful. The work they do here at Spay Panama is truly a blessing to the animals and pet owners of Panama!
I had an amazing 2 weeks volunteering with Spay Panama. As a second year vet student I was able to help with both the pre- and post-operative care for the animals, as well as partaking in over 100 surgeries including cat and dog neuters and cat spays. All veterinarians, staff and volunteers at Spay Panama were very welcoming and made me feel at home even with a language barrier between us.
You can really see the difference this organization is making in controlling the stray animal population within Panama. Everyone there is so passionate about the work they are doing. It is truly inspiring to see.
We had a fantastic time at Spay Panama! As a vet student I performed over 80 surgeries in one week, both at the main facility and a mobile spay event. This organization is making a huge difference in animal health all over Panama, and also takes great care of the large volunteer force that makes these events possible.
Spay Panama was an amazing experience for me as a second year veterinary student. We stayed for 2 weeks with Spay. We got lots of experience with pre surgical procedures such as shaving animals, expressing bladers, doing IM and SQ injections, talking to owners, drawing blood, anesthetizing patients, intubating and catheterizing. We also did post surgical procedures such as cleaning ears and incision cleaning. As vet students, we also got to partake in surgeries, mainly neuters but we also performed a cat spay. We got to do the surgeries entirely by ourselves with supervision from the veterinarians there and we did many surgeries which was great for experience. In the afternoons, we would see different everyday appointments. We very much liked working with Mati (the technician), Leo and Veronica (veterinarians) and they made us feel like a part of the Spay family.
After our volunteer shift, we would get a tour of different areas in Panama which was great. The food provided to all the volunteers was also amazing and they had big portions. It is evident the difference that Spay is making with the animal population as most animals on the street (which there aren't many anymore) have been fixed by Spay Panama.
Since there are a lot of volunteers that go through Spay Panama and it is a very fast-paced environment, it can sometimes be taunting to enter such a close-knit work group. My only recommendation would be to strive towards building a stronger interpersonal relation with the volunteer even if they are only there for a couple weeks. All in all though, Spay Panama was a one in a lifetime experience with great hands-on opportunities.
I recently visited the Spay Panama clinic and it was an experience that left me speechless. The volunteers and staff of this organization are amazing and such a blessing for the country of Panama. I witnessed many dogs and cats sterilized and vetted through one of the clinic days in Panama City. They also helped me adopt a beautiful and sweet dog that someone abandoned due to only 3 legs. I am happy to report that Iris, my sweet Spay Panama dog I adopted, is doing great and living a diva life in the USA.
Spay Panama has drastically decreased the homeless population of dogs and Cats over the past 14 years. It is clearly visible throughout the city. I rescue cats and with the help of Spay Panama we are able to get them spayed and many times find them a home. As I also care for around 30 of the rescued cats, Spay also provided the vet skills to assist in their health issues. The group has boundless energy and love for the animals.
Our stables are located in an National Park in Panama City, Panama. The accessibility to the parks affords a dumping ground for unwanted cats/kittens. Many whom wonder into the stable area searching for food. Spay Panama has helped us implement an ongoing TNR (trap, neuter and release) program to catch the recent influx of feral cats. The doctors taught us how to arm the traps as well as provided much insight in how to catch these feral cats. Spay graciously loaned us the traps and with their help we easily caught 8 cats/kittens that had not previously been neutered. Our ongoing effort keeps the area from being overpopulated yet allowing us to have the added value of the rodent control that the cats provide. Aside from TNR, Spay provides emergency care for any ailments that the cats acquire. We have been involved in ongoing TNR for 12 years and with Spay Panama's help have been able to control the population in an environment that would otherwise certainly become overpopulated. I have personally seen the abandoned animal population noticeably decrease over the years due to Spay's continual hard work and efforts. They are truly and amazing organization and benefit to the Panama.
Spay Panama has taught me to be a better person, it opened my eyes to the reality of our country's over populated strays and that by spaying them we can prevent unwanted litters that suffer hunger, mistreatment and death due to ignorance because they end up in trashcans rivers and abandoned by people in a gas station or park or anywhere but a home. Shelters are not enough and Spaying this animals has helped decrease the volume of strays and also helped the community that cant afford their pets to have a litter to a solution towards this unwanted litter. Spay panama uses the quick spay technique thus allowing strays a fast recovery and also a larger amount of animals spayed due to the shorter time involved in spaying using this technique . It goes to all rural and urban areas to spay nation wide and also teaches the community how to be a better keeper of ones pet by visiting schools and teaching proper care a lot of mistreatment done to animals have lowered, mistreated do to ignorance, for example....the need of vaccines as a means to prevent disease, the importance to have your pet with id tags, fresh water and food is needed and not expose them to direct sunlight, that your pet needs shelter from rain and sun not to feed it dark chocolate candy and condiment food ,.....all this is taught to kids in school as a part of our responsibility as owners, also taught why to spay both male and female .Once the message is given the life of the pet becomes better. why Spay Panama has made me a better person, because it humbled me. it taught me how fortunate my pet is compared to the strays and allowed me the opportunity to participate in making a difference instead of complaining about how many stray cats there is now I do something about it I use their traps and trap neuter and release this stray cats making a difference between just complaining and actually giving a solution to the problem makes me feel better .
Spay Panama has been working towards the well-being of cats and dogs , strays and pets of low income families through TNR and quick spay program. Together wth the wonderful volunteers , a top grade veterinary team, administrative personnel and the help of private business and public office, they have saved thousands of animals from neglect, abuse and certain death and have been educating the population in the importance of controling the stray population of cats and dogs through the spay and neuter programs, as well as the importance of treating pets with respect, caring for them and their well-being through public lectures in schools and private enterprisies. The response of the public to the efforts of all the team at Spay Panama has been growing and it is one more incentive to keep working towards our goals.
I recently visited Panama from the US and came across a cat (now Luna) who appeared in need of some care. I reached out to Spay Panama and Patricia got back to me very quickly and offered to send some of Spay Panama's volunteers to meet me at the location in order to attempt to rescue Luna and bring her into their clinic for an exam. We rescued Luna and as I did not have a car with me, I was able to ride with the (very friendly) volunteers to the clinic. Upon arriving at the clinic and getting Luna comfortable and settled after a brief exam, Patricia and the volunteers showed me around their very special clinic. The plan was for their vet to see Luna first thing the following morning. It was determined during the vet's exam that Luna was indeed in need of some care and that it would be best she not be put back outdoors, even following care. After some discussion, it was decided that Luna would come to the US to live as an indoor cat, but in order for this to work she would stay at the clinic for about 2 weeks for treatment and safe housing until we could get her a flight. This certainly took some effort and planning and Patricia was so helpful and caring of Luna throughout the process. Luna has officially safely made it to the US (also special thanks to Panama Pet Relocation) and is loving indoor life and most especially cozy beds with lots of soft blankets! I am so very thankful for and to Spay Panama/Patricia and for all they do with animals day in and day out.
I am a veterinary student from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. I spent a week working with SpayPanama. It is a fantastic organization with incredible veterinarians who put in alot of effort to help control the overpopulation of dogs and cats and serve remote communities. Thank you for all that you do!
I spent a week there volunteering in the hospital. The staff was amazing. The doctors were all very welcoming and friendly. This organization does great work! I can not wait to go back.
My experience with Spay Panama was truly special and amazing. I learned so much while being there and became so much more comfortable and confident in my surgical skills. The friendships that I built were awesome as well. The the doctors and staff that volunteer are truly an amazing group of people and I enjoyed every learning experience that I was able to have with everyone that I met. I hope to be able to go back some time soon!
I have been living in Panama for the last 9 years and was introduced to Spay Panama within the first month of living here. By that time I had already rescued 2 kittens and brought them to be sterilized at Spay Panama. While I was there,I saw a lot of kittens and cats that had been rescued and we re there looking for their forever homes. I went home with an additional kitten. I was just so touched by all the amazing work the volunteers do there and it was so obvious to see how much care they put into each animal there. I have since then become a volunteer for Spay Panama. They truly care about the well being of animals and about educating the people in Panama about the importance of sterilizing their pets. By volunteering at their clinics in my area, it is easy to see that their message is making a difference. I see a big increase in the amount of pets being brought to the clinics and I believe there are less stray sick animals on the beaches and roads. Spay Panama are an awesome group of people that really care about the health and happiness of animals.
My volunteer service at Spay/Panama proved to be more than rewarding. I was able to observe the care their staff takes into making the sterilization process ease with as minimum stress as possible for the owner and pet. A major factor in this experience was the great teamwork. Thank you, Spay/Panama for helping our furry friends!
I have been a volunteer at Spay Panama for 5 yrs and i can see the diference for the best that has done for the animals in Panama. I don't even want to think how many more animals would be in the streets without the great spay/ neuter program at a low cost that can reach people that otherwise could never be able to spay/ neuter their mascots plus the help given to all the rescue groups and the animals that live in the streets.
Another good thing that Spay need to be reconize is the contant teachings to make people aware of the needs of the animals and try to reduce animal abuse.
An organization like this deserves all the help posible to continue its great program.
Being an animal lover i picked Spay Panama to volunteer because after doing my research i found out that this organization is the one that has done and is doing the diference in improving the lives of the most vulberable animals ( the ones in the streets and the ones from low income families) by spaying/ neuter them and by doing that reducing pain and suffering , the birth of unwanted cats and dogs that most of them will end up having a miserable life.
I BELEIVE IN WHAT SPAY DOES AND I WANT TO BE A PART OF THIS.
I rescue cats since 10 years in Panama and with the help of Spay Panama I was able to fix a lot of them because of their reasonable price. I have been involved also in raising money in our area. 3 clinics have been done until now and over 1000 animals sterilize. Nobody had never make a clinic in that area, people are so grateful to have the opportunity to fix their animal. They love them but don t have $150. to fix them. I m so grateful to all the team of Spay Panama for their dedicated work and love for animal.
One morning in May I was on a rush and my son ask me to bring him at the bus station. I said yes but was not happy. I went in my car and just back up without asking myself if one of my cats was under the car. And yes one was there. I broke his 2 back legs. I call Spay and they took me the same day. They put him prothesis and came back home and was able to walk. They are doing an incredible work. I m always amaze with the quality and the love those people have for the animals.
This experience was unlike anything else I've ever done. Spay Panama is an organization that is making a very visible difference in their community. All it takes is a short walk down the street to see the number of stray cats and dogs that have been sterilized thanks to this program. Both staff and volunteers come together every day and work very hard. As a foreign volunteer I felt very welcomed into the project and the community. As a veterinary student I was able to help with pre and post-operation procedures, as well as with surgeries as I gained experience.
It was amazing to see 100+ animals get sterilized in a normal day. While there are a lot of spay/neuter programs out there, working to this level of efficiency is rare. And despite being a low cost program, the safety and well being of all the animals that come through Spay Panama is taken very seriously.
Thanks Spay Panama for a great 2 weeks!
Spay Panama is an organization that has made a difference in not only the lives of countless animals but also the community. Their amazing and hard working staff and volunteers have managed to change how street animals are perceived in Panama. In my short time volunteering with them I managed to help out in the community and in their clinic, learn about animal health, diseases and surgery. This organization is truly making an impact.
Spay Panama is a great foundation, is a great fundation with its beautiful work helping the dogs and cats.
Spay Panama's mission is to reduce the overpopulation of dogs and cats through a massive sterilization program throughout the territory of the Republic of Panama.
For me it is an honor as a volunteer to be able to help this noble mission and I urge everyone to join this cause for a better quality of life for animals.
Great project that definitely is making an impact in their community/country. Top notch professionals and volunteers pull off daily services and huge monthly/biweekly events for owners with low economic status or stray pets. Sterilization is an answer to the overpopulation of pets and this group does it better than anyone.
Absolutely brilliant organisation, doing a lot of good for the dogs and cats of Panama and all very dedicated and enthusiastic about their mission. I would fully recommend volunteering here and also they are a very worthy charity of donations both monetary and of veterinary supplies.
I was a volunteer at Spay Panama and my experience there couldn't have been better. Not just that they are doing awesome work and help so much, but they are really really kind too! It is very inspirering what they are doing and with what passion and love they do it.
My experience with them was unforgettable and they are just such a great organisation who are doing a really important job!
SpayPanama is one of the best places I volunteered at. Great organization that works so smart, every dime is being used in the best way. Not only they save hundreds of animals every week, they also raise awareness and prevent further uncontrollable births and abuse towards animals. The head of the organization is a great PR and business women that decided to dedicat 100% to animals and it is their gain. SpayPanama conpletely deserves the number one rating.
This is an incredibly talented and dedicated group of people. Everyone was extremely friendly and accommodating, and I learned so much in a short time. I would definitely return to help out again!
I love this place! I recommend it to all my animal lover friends. We even volunteer to help and always have a great experience to share.
I have to say that it was a very nice experience to cooperate with SpayPanama. They take their job seriously and start taking action immediatley whenever necessary. They care so much about the animals they spay and rescue. Everyone should know about SpayPanama and if you are thinking about adopting a furry friend they will surely have a good well-cared for companion for you.
Its great to know there are people who care for animals. For example in Panama, it was not until now that there is a noticeable percentage of people who are fond of cats so because of this many cats were victims of maltreatment. Now there's some hope for our human-defenseless furry friends. I personally had the pleasant experience of adopting my cat when he was only a kitten that had been rescued from the streets and was in a life-threatening physical state. The team was very helpful and cared for him until he was fully recovered. And today we can look at him at home every day smiling and thinking how far he's come thanks to SpayPanama who saved his life.
I have been involved with Spay Panama for over 12 years. They are an amazing group. 100% percent of the donations go to help the animals. I see daily the results of their efforts in the noticeable decrease in population of homeless animals in the city of Panama. The doctors and volunteers work tirelessly day in and out.
Spay Panama is always willing to help stray animals in any way necessary. On multiple occasions I have brought stray cats or dogs in need of care. They are spayed/ neutered then expertly cared for until their condition improves. Spay Panama tirelessly cares for any animal off the street as long as it is spayed or neutered before it leaves. Spay Panama also cares for abandoned kittens and cats until they can be adopted. They are an amazing group!!
Spay is the only non-profit in Panama that helps people with a difficult financial situation and homeless/abandoned animals to avoid over population and suffering by providing spay/neuter and health services at a very low cost which is key to enable people to continue to keep their pets healthy. I've been a volunteer at Spay for some years and I've learned a lot of valuable information to also help and guide others. Spay is also a key support in my endless work of helping suffering cats by always being available to provide treatment with a great sense of urgency, care and true love for animals. Their drive is to educate people and help animals and their passion inspires and enables me to continue this difficult journey. We need more of this in the world and governments to support this continuous and much needed project.
I am volunteer to another non-profit called Asociación Dejando Huellas. We rescue animals form the streets , put them into foster homes , give them medical treatment and through Spay Panama ,we close their reproductive system so they have a new life without suffering.
We are so thankful because we receive guidance , support and our animals are spayed to lower prices.
Spay Panama has done so much for the community with their clinics thoughtout the country.
There is amazing teamwork and efficiency between all volunteers new and old. Everyone is very dedicated to the mission of the organization! I have been twice for about one week each time and the generosity and devotion of the group still amazes me.
I moved to Isla Saboga in 2012. There is a small poor village on the island. The dogs and puppies were not only treated poorly but were in deplorable condition and quickly multiplying. Spay Panama has now made 5 trips to the island, we see a great improvement in the quality of life of the dogs and a big reduction in unwanted puppies. Spay Panama takes the time to speak with the village and children to attempt to better educate them on proper care for their pets and the importance of sterilization. The vets treat each and every dog with compassion and provide high quality care. I really do not know what I would have done without Dr. Chan and her organization. The village leaders told me that the village is now becoming proud of their pets and the cleaner streets and homes. They go to other villages and notice the difference. We will continue our great relationship with Spay Panama. Below is a recent puppy saved by Dr. Chan. His litter mates were unwanted and allowed to perish by the owner. This puppy is now safe and sterilized. THANK YOU Dr. CHAN and Spay Panama !!!!!!!!!!!!
I spent 1 week working with SpayPanama and loved every second of it. The staff are so helpful and welcoming. They take time to explain their procedure and protocol and will answer all your questions. The animals always receive the highest level of care and top treatment methods.
I spent a little over two months working at SpayPanama and had a blast. As a Pre-Veterinary student this opportunity offered a great way to gain experience and will set my self apart from other applicants to vet school. While working there I learned how to prepare animals for surgery as well as take care of them afterwards. I became very proficient at shaving, expressing the bladder, giving SQ and IM injections, as well as tattooing and clipping the ears. Aside from just the hands on experience I was able to watch as many different types of surgeries as I pleased. It is a Pre-Veterinary student's dream. I understandable so, did not perform any surgeries because of my lack of education, however, many students from all over the world in veterinary school were able to and gained a great deal of valuable surgical experience. It is my goal to return once I am in vet school to follow in their footsteps. Not only did the clinic offer a great deal of hands on experience they also did so in a very welcoming and encouraging way. They always were quick to share a laugh and never hesitated to pull me aside and show me an interesting case. I made some really great friends and have created wonderful relationships that will remain for years to come. I recommend SpayPanama to anyone that is interested in Veterinary Medicine or just to those who desire contribute to the continuing effort to help improve the welfare of thousands of animals.
My time with Spay Panama was really great! I volunteered with a fellow vet student for three weeks. Everyone at Spay Panama made me feel very welcome and helped teach me many things during my time there (e.g. the quick spay method). I feel I gained many helpful skills that will prove useful for my future veterinary career and I have gained more confidence in my surgical skills. As well as getting veterinary experience in the clinic and at spay events, I got to experience different aspects of Panamanian culture and the team were great at showing us different parts and tourist sites in Panama City. Thanks to everyone who made my time at Spay Panama so wonderful.
I met Patricia Chan over 20 years ago and was struck by her intelligence, focus and readiness to work. Her work over the past 20 years has been phenomenal and tireless. She gives her all. She works with many people to end the suffering of strays and street animals in a number of ways, the most effective of which is the spay and neuter campaigns to cut the numbers of unwanted animals in Panama. There are other much larger and well-funded organizations that do far less than SPAY PANAMA, and we hope that people will choose to support SPAY PANAMA - which is right there, on the ground, in action all the time.
Dear Reader, I am W. Marvin Mackie D.V.M. retired. I wish to send my support to SpayPanama as an extremely worthy and effective organization that is and has been addressing pet over-population in Panama for 10 years. Their success and effectiveness is outstanding! Any way you can help their efforts benefits animals in so many ways. And there is great benefit for the owners and caretakers as well as the communities in which their work is done.
I had an amazing experience with Spay Panama as a vet student. I did over 100 cat castrations and was also taught the quick spay method in cats. The experience has really increased my confidence in these surgical procedures. As well as improving my surgical skills, everyone at Spay was really lovely and took me and the other vet student with me on excursions all over Panama City. Thank you for the experience!
I donate my professional services to Spay Panama. I feel that I am making a contribution to help the less fortunate animals because I see results.
Spay Panama helps me spay/neuter and vaccinate my rescued dogs before placing in loving homes.
SpayPanama´s work throughout the Republic of Panama is remarkable. I am sincerely glad to collaborate as a donor with such a reputable organization. One can sense that the team is genuinely committed to its mission and vision. Most important, their operations are financially transparent and linked to a solid work plan which is monitored and evaluated constantly. A truly exemplary nonprofit, that is making a great difference serving the community in this public health matter. Hats off to their team of dedicated professionals and volunteers. Keep up the great work!
It broke my heart to see dogs run over on the side of the roads or dogs with no home starving. We adopted a three legged abused dog from Spay Panama. From the beginning, Penny has been a blessing. People say to us nonsense like, how wonderful it is that we took a three legged dog in. NO!! WE are the ones that are the grateful ones! Penny is wonder full in every way. Daily we watch her growing in confidence and although she has never known anything but brutality and cruelty from humans, she greets everyone with her tail wagging waiting for a pet. The people in our building call her, "Love on Three Legs." Don't make the mistake of passing over the not so pretty or handicapped dogs, you will be rewarded with a loyal, loving and devoted family member.
Spay Panama is making a huge difference to lives and welfare of stray dogs and cats and those owned by low income families. They offer very affordable, they accept not just cash but also fruit and vegetables, for the sterilization. As an expat living in Panama I was shocked and horrified by the number of dogs hit by cars at the side of the highway. After 3 visits by Spay Panama to local community the number of street dogs was greatly reduced. There were very few dead dogs. As a local volunteer people would come up to me to ask when is the next clinic. They understood the benefits of sterilizing their pets. At the clinics you could see the love they had for their pets and how happy they were knowing there would be no more babies.
Spay Panama is amazing and Panama is very lucky to have such a dedicated person at Pat Chang and her fabulous support staff. I feel honoured to have been a volunteer with them.
SpayPanama has been doing incredible, life-changing work throughout Panama for several years now. They have a dedicated team of veterinarians, volunteers, and staff that truly care about making a difference for animals in the country. I have been volunteering with SpayPanama for a few years, and am seeing a difference not only in the number of animals on the street, but in the mindset of people and how they treat animals. People are learning the importance of sterilizing their pets, which will ultimately make a difference in the long run. I would highly recommend working with SpayPanama for anyone who has a passion for cats and dogs and who wants to make a direct impact on improving animals' lives.
Spay Panama is an excellent organization. They are a very professional and well organized group. The staff are very kind, caring and easy to work with. They offer an amazing service to low income people that could otherwise not afford this type of service.
Their work helps to end the suffering of unwanted and homeless animals in our communities. These types of programs are great for the community and a great way to help our animal friends live longer, healthier lives. In my area alone Spay Panama has help over 400 animals live a better life. They have also educated the community on the importance of these types of programs and how to better care for your animals. Spay Panama is making a difference!!
I spent 2 weeks at Spay Panama, and took part in a mega spay event as a volunteer (4th year veterinary student at Nottingham Uni). I would definitely recommend Spay Panama to anyone is that is thinking of volunteering, it is very well organised and I learned a lot of new skills over my time there. In the future I hope to return to Spay Panama and volunteer again, as I found the experience to be so beneficial and positive.
I am a final year veterinary student studying at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, and I volunteered at Spay Panama for 2 weeks duration. This was singly the most rewarding work experience I have ever done during my time at veterinary school. The reason for this was because it was incredibly positive and wholesome.
Although I spoke virtually no Spanish, I was made to feel included in all aspects of the clinic, and information/procedures were explained to me clearly. Everyone there was friendly, and the atmosphere was that of a large extended family working together as one efficient unit with the sole purpose of improving the welfare of these animals. Support, immediate assistance, and positive reinforcement was consistently available to me if I ever needed help when I was working. My main objective was to practice my surgical technique and spay/castrate as many cats and dogs as I could. That expectation was surpassed immensely as there were hundreds of animals that I had the opportunity to work with. As an added bonus, at the end of each work day local volunteers would take me out for dinner and tourist excursions
Thanks to Spay Panama, I now feel incredibly more confident as a soon to be veterinarian, and gratified that I helped so many cats and dogs. Once I graduate as a veterinarian I will one hundred percent be returning to volunteer again, and contribute towards Spay Panama's Mission Statement!
I am a Vet Student from Edinburgh University and I volunteered with Spay Panama for 2 weeks in July 2015. I can honestly say that the team at Spay were the most hard working and dedicated people I have ever met. During my stay I helped out on one of their Spay Drives and I could not believe the skill and effort that went in to that weekend - from the organisation to the volume of operations carried out by the vets and the assistance by all the volunteers. Everything was so efficient and animals were moved from preparation to surgery to recovery seamlessly. The vets carried out back to back operations in the heat for 9 hours each day - very impressive!
I was very impressed with the quality of care provided to each animal, at Spay the animals really do come first. Even though the aim of the organisation is to help control populations, every animal is treated with the utmost care. The highest priority is the well-being of each animal (Even getting their ears cleaned and vitamins at the end of the operation!).
We helped out with the operations at the clinic in the mornings and then were taken out sightseeing in the afternoons. We were taken all over the city and learnt all about the history of Panama City by visiting areas like Casco Viejo and the ruins of the original city. I wasn't expecting to see so much during my brief time there!
I would like to finish my review by saying that everyone I met at Spay were so lovely and kind and I genuinely felt like part of a big family during my brief time there. Even though my Spanish is limited to a few badly pronounced words I felt honoured that people tried to speak English with me despite me not being able to speak Spanish! I want to thank everyone for making my time at Spay so special and I cannot wait to come back in the future if you'll have me!
Spay Panama has been true to their position in helping communities all over Panama. Patricia Chan and her very dedicated team are the most awesome and caring people we in El Valle have had the opportunity to work with. They are to me, the most heart felt community dog and cat caregivers on the planet. I have viewed first hand the love and care Spay Panama brings to many communities within our country of Panama. We applaud all of you. You Rock!!
It is a pleasure to be part of this wonderful team. I have volunteered for almost three years. I feel the satisfaction of helping hundreds of animals with my two cents every weekend.
Spay is a great organization that promotes the true well being of the animals they care for. i enjoyed being able to help out in any way i could, whether it be cleaning cages or feeding the the multitude of cats and dogs.
