My Nonprofit Reviews

TrevorVolunteer
Review for The Trevor Project, Inc., West Hollywood, CA, USA
The Trevor Project offers a completely unique and vital service to the youth of America who are conflicted, not only by their own developmental and identity issues, but also by the mixed messaging they are receiving from political and social media. This service is relatively new to the US, but is something I wish I had access to when I was growing up. Their simple messaging and concrete programs offer great outlets for those in need of their services.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
The expanded services they offer and the continued increase in calls by youth as the organization markets itself in broader based media outlets.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I have been on the board for 3+ years now so I do feel as if I am part of its leadership and help run the organization. I would not change anything because this group is constantly changing everything to be current and meet the needs of its constituents.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
The selfless giving of its volunteers, the incredible and effective pool of resources of its board of directors, and the agility of which the organization changes to the needs of youth via social and internet outlets.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
I have met all the staff and they have unique ownership of the work & efforts the organizations puts out. The volunteers are incredibly motivated and return year after year because they believe in the cause and know they're making difference.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Offer their services in local schools around the country of acceptance education. They would also be able to open call centers in most geographic regions so the counselors would be able to relate better to the youth.
Ways to make it better...
More children had access to their Helpline. With regular outreach and media coverage the organization receives more and more calls from youth. More children need to know that they have someone to talk to so they don't take their own life.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Funding as donors around the country are experiencing hardships.
