My Nonprofit Reviews

Ashley Alden
Review for Lucky Paws Rescue, Tacoma, WA, USA
I have been working with this organization for several years now, and I can say without a doubt they are top-notch.
I have fostered several dogs for them, and assisted other fosters in training and behavior modification.
Despite the fact that they are overwhelmed, understaffed, and underfunded, they ALWAYS put the animals first.
If you've come here to research a rescue to donate to or adopt from - I would highly recommend LPR.
Review for Rise Rescue Alliance, Port Angeles, WA, USA
I have been working with non-profit animal rescue organizations since 2014 - roughly 1/3 of my life. During that time, I have worked with numerous rescues across the US, Canada and Mexico. Without a doubt, I can say Rise Rescue Alliance is one of the best organizations I have had the fortune of working with, and one of the few I will continue to actively support.
As a Dog Trainer and Behavior Consultant, I have extremely high standards for dog care and animal welfare. I lived at the Rise facility for 3 months whilst attending the Peninsula School for Dog Trainers and spent almost 24 hours a day with the dogs, staff, and volunteers. The staff is educated and expertly handles even the most terrified or over aroused dogs with care and compassion. They not only meet but exceed the 5 Freedoms of Animal Welfare.
Pros:
* Exceptional, individualized training/behavior modification, exercise and enrichment programs for each dog.
* Care and compassion for both dogs AND people (hard to find in rescue)
* Expert knowledge about dog behavior, ethology, psychology, health and wellness
* Staff have years of experience handling, training, and working with dogs - including high drive working dogs and dogs that display aggressive and reactive behaviors
* Incredible at matching dogs with prospective adopters
* Offer expert training advice pre- and post-adoption
Cons:
* There is only one Rise Rescue Alliance, and they can only help so many dogs.
By adopting, donating, and volunteering, you can help them help more dogs!
I hope and pray that one day each rescue will be held to the high standards Rise embodies.
Until then, rest assured that by supporting Rise, you are supporting something spectacular.
Review for Doggedly Dog Rescue Society Inc, Houston, TX, USA
As a former board member of Doggedly I feel the need to warn everyone to stay away. They turned off Facebook reviews and blocked anyone who has had an issue with their practices from commenting.
The executive director, who was previously with another defunct rescue busted for fraud and embezzlement, essentially uses donations and puppy adoption fees to hoard dogs at her home and in boarding. There are at least 60 unaccounted for.
This organization is not transparent and frequently hides information about dog's health, money spent on them, and even their veterinary paperwork.
The executive director is also not honest about dog's temperaments or behavior which has resulted in several adopters dogs and a few people (including myself) being injured. The executive director doesn't care who she hurts, dogs or people, as long as she makes herself look good.
On top of all of that when I worked with this organization between December 2019 and March 2021 we received over 6 thousand applications and only facilitated a hundred adoptions. There's a slight chance you're going to be rich enough or high class enough to adopt from this organization anyway. Part of their adoption screening used to be looking up home values. If you rent, good luck. Even when I was on the board of this rescue I sent my friends and family elsewhere because I knew they didn't have a chance.
Not only that but I sat on several interviews where the executive director basically told people they were going to be able to adopt a dog from us, only to hang up and exclaim how much she hated them and would never adopt to them. She never bothered to tell them or decline their application though and would ignore the subsequent emails of them asking what had changed. We were explicitly told to ignore them and that she would respond later, but she never did.
The executive director is unprofessional and lacks empathy and compassion toward humans and animals.
If your adoption doesn't work out prepare to be shamed and blamed, even if her description of the dog is untruthful it always ends up being your fault.
There are many other reputable, transparent, trustworthy rescues out there to adopt from. Save yourself some heartache - adopt elsewhere.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Vote out the executive director. Ask other rescues for help with the dogs that have been being hoarded for years. Be transparent about the health and behavior of the dogs. Remove barriers for adoption.
