I have been working with non-profit animal rescue organizations since 2014 - roughly 1/3 of my life. During that time, I have worked with numerous rescues across the US, Canada and Mexico. Without a doubt, I can say Rise Rescue Alliance is one of the best organizations I have had the fortune of working with, and one of the few I will continue to actively support.
As a Dog Trainer and Behavior Consultant, I have extremely high standards for dog care and animal welfare. I lived at the Rise facility for 3 months whilst attending the Peninsula School for Dog Trainers and spent almost 24 hours a day with the dogs, staff, and volunteers. The staff is educated and expertly handles even the most terrified or over aroused dogs with care and compassion. They not only meet but exceed the 5 Freedoms of Animal Welfare.
Pros:
* Exceptional, individualized training/behavior modification, exercise and enrichment programs for each dog.
* Care and compassion for both dogs AND people (hard to find in rescue)
* Expert knowledge about dog behavior, ethology, psychology, health and wellness
* Staff have years of experience handling, training, and working with dogs - including high drive working dogs and dogs that display aggressive and reactive behaviors
* Incredible at matching dogs with prospective adopters
* Offer expert training advice pre- and post-adoption
Cons:
* There is only one Rise Rescue Alliance, and they can only help so many dogs.
By adopting, donating, and volunteering, you can help them help more dogs!
I hope and pray that one day each rescue will be held to the high standards Rise embodies.
Until then, rest assured that by supporting Rise, you are supporting something spectacular.
This is the best rescue on the peninsula. The compassion they show for the dogs is outstanding. Each dog is give medical attention, is spayed or neutered, and well trained by a team of professional dog trainers before being placed into their forever homes. Their training is done with love and affection not by force and punishment. The adopters are well screened to make sure the dog will be a good fit and not be abandoned again. When other rescues have issues with their dogs that they are not equipped to handle they turn to Rise to prepare their dogs for their forever home.
