Review for Palomacy Pigeon & Dove Adoptions, San Francisco, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Palomacy is a wonderful bird rescue where all of the people involved are incredibly compassionate, dedicated and knowledgeable about pigeons -- and many other feathered creatures for that matter. I met Jill many years ago when she came to the Hayward Animal Shelter to teach the volunteers and staff about pigeon care/adoption, how to hold them and how to put pigeon pants on the feather-babies. Pet and other pigeons do sometimes end up at animal shelters, after being found injured or disoriented. Jill and my paths crossed once again when a friend called to ask for help after a pigeon ran into their home after escaping the talons of a hungry hawk. Although I had been out of touch with Jill for quite a few years, I sent Palomacy an email, hoping they'd have room for one more injured pigeon. Jill got right back to me and when I told her how amazed I was that the pigeon escaped and ran into a house for safety, she reminded me that pigeons are very intelligent. She was able to squeeze in this beautiful King Pigeon (Myrta) for treatment of the puncture wounds. She told me that she and Palomacy were full with pigeons and, as I learned later, was hoping another foster would step up to take Myrta. In line in front of Myrta was an even more injured pigeon who was running out of time at a shelter and needed urgent medical care. So, a few days later, after Jill felt confident that Myrta was stable enough, she gave me a much-needed refresher course on how to care for her. At our home, Myrta continued to heal and when she was ready to go up for adoption, Jill got her placed in another wonderful foster to adopt situation. Now Myrta and her husband Felix are awaiting their loving forever home. Happily, Jill was also able to save the injured pigeon at the shelter whose spot was hijacked by Myrta. And finally, as far as I can tell, Palomacy survives on donations to pay for all the medical needs and supplies for these helpless, often hopeless birds. So, if you're looking for a special and deserving Rescue to make a donation to, I hope you think of Palomacy.

Thank you Palomacy for all your help and dedication to these sweet, sentient beings who really need your help. -Chris
