We attempted to adopt a 3 month old female puppy. We were approved but I found out that they fix their puppies as young as 8 weeks, which has potential health complications involving bladder incontinence, joint issue, hip dysplasia and increased cancer risks as per our vet. The reason being that the animals do not generate their hormones at such an early age. They tell people that the only reason puppies aren't fixed at 8 weeks is due to anesthesia but because their vet operates on so many puppies he's comfortable and that there are no side effects = FALSE! Pet population is a pervasive problem but puppy welfare should equally be a concern. I was immediately contacted and told," I heard you aren't happy about us spaying your puppy at her age. I think maybe we aren't the rescue for you and you should continue to search for a rescue pup". Clearly they are not concerned with the puppies' longterm health and do not take kindly to being questioned. All animals deserve to be rescued for more than the fee associated. We would have paid the $525 AND had her fixed at the appropriate age.
