Review for The Hero Rescue, Incorporated, Jarrettsville, MD, USA
Very proud to be a part of this growing organization! We have a commitment to compassion for our animals and humans alike. Our volunteers are committed and genuine. They provide a warm environment for our dogs and allow for a smooth transition to their forever homes. We operate with a family approach and true dedication to the dogs’ future, far beyond “adoption” day.
Review for Puppies Are Worth Saving Inc, FOREST HILL, MD, USA
HEALTH AND TREATMENT OF ANIMALS: Dogs are not provided with adequate veterinary care and are often denied care in the case of an emergency, often left alone in the owners basement to die. My rescue has had 3 of her fosters reach out to me in the past 8 months to assist with getting dogs in their care emergency vetting because it was denied by the organization. They were bullied by the owner when sought out help, ultimately “kicked out” sighting “unbecoming behavior”. 2 of those dogs died. I’ve personally witnessed dead dogs crated with live siblings, filthy conditions, dogs crated 23+ hours a day with no enrichment. There is NO law that requires this kind of quarantine, although owner falsely claims there is, as an excuse for the conditions. No photos are allowed in the basement because of the poor conditions. I’ve also witnessed dogs with terrible intestinal issues go untreated, or by a generic dewormer (no matter how effective). It’s often reported that dogs have been evaluated by a licensed vet, but this evaluation is a simple “is the dog healthy enough for surgery”, meaning no snot/cough/weight issues, by a spay clinic who operates on about 25+ dogs a day. Often the dogs fail on the first evaluation and are sent home. I know this because I ran several transports for them.
FINANCES: No accountability for allocation of funds, and often not reported. For example, in a year where they adopted out over 200 dogs at $450 each, received a donation of $15,000 (for van), and an event with revenues of over $7,000 (Bingo), their tax statement was that their revenue was under $50k.
PROFESSIONALISM: Owner is disrespectful and manipulative. She spread personal information about my family (even though it had a direct negative impact on my 2 young children), when I parted ways to start my own rescue. She is known for treating her volunteers poorly and continues to harass my volunteers when they speak out about their experience with her organization.
OVERALL: I feel that there is more I could share here, but this should be enough for you to make a decision on the integrity of this organization. The mission of rescue is to save the lives of animals in need with a compassionate heart, but unfortunately there are organizations like PAWS who tarnish that reputation.
For all readers, you should note that this commenter left our rescue owing us thousands of dollars. Many of the other negative reviews in here are hee friends. Our puppies are quarantined per standards then placed directly into foster homes, never being neglected of love, attention, or medical care. Our finances are line (besides the money she owes us of course), and we are DIRECT not disrespectful. We do have screenshots of the above commenter calling people/adopter/ volunteers curse words, as well as her 10x10 shed where she keeps dogs.
