Review for Jellystone Barks Rescue Rangers NFP, Yorkville, IL, USA

Rating: 1 stars

Run, dont walk away from this shady scam of a "rescue ". First off, all the signs that we should have looked elsewhere were all there. A non refundable deposit of $200, and a total cost of $800 for this supposedly not for profit shelter. There was no background check, no pre meetup, we were told put a deposit down or the dog would be gone. High pressure sales tactics. When my wife took our dog to meet the rescue in a parking lot of a vet, the rescue immediately growled at our dog. Kim, the person in charge, dismissed this as a case of getting their leashes tangled and was only concerned about the money versus if the animals actually got along. They had a van full of dogs and appeared to be a flyby night operation that was attempting to rid themselves of as many animals as quickly as possible.

The dog was supposedly a purebred boston terrier that gets along with kids and other animals. All this rescue supposedly needed was another dog to help with anxiety. Our vet did verify that at least the purebred part was a lie and the dog was mixed with something else.

Getting the rescue home, it immediately starting marking the house non stop and was also a runner. It was also a aggressive alpha Male that attempted to mount everything in the house. None of this was mentioned for a 3 year old dog. We were adamant on making this work and saving this dog. On day 10, the rescue viciously attacked my dog twice after being told over and over that he was good with other animals. Clamped on my dogs neck and would not release until his jaw was pryed open.

We contacted Kim and returned the dog instead of having it put down. Now we are down $800 with nothing to show for it except a injured pug. A few days later my dog developed a massive infection and needed emergency surgery. The same day my cat died of a mysterious illness that while I cant prove was brought in by the rescue, the cat was 100% healthy until the rescue came into our house.

$650 dollars to the vet for my dog and cat, I politely asked Kim for my adoption fee back to cover the vet bills. I never heard anything, which I knew would happen. I'm now down $1500, lost a beloved cat and am still not sure my dog will recover 100%.

The worst part, this shelter re adopted this vicious dog to someone else, and never changed the listing to mention the dog did not get along with other animals. I fear this animal will attack a another dog or even a small child.

Do not, under any circumstances take a chance with this rescue. Look around for reviews, you wont find any because they wont allow it. Scroll down on this page, we are unfortunately not the only family who has been scammed.

The dog in question has lived with multiple animals in foster care and has not had any aggression issues with any of them. We temperament test all of our animals and no dangerous animals leave our care. There was no reason to believe that the dogs would not get along at their meeting. All of our approved adopters have the option of reserving/pre adopting the dog that they are most interested in. It is an OPTION and NOT A REQUIREMENT. Blaming the rescue for the negligence of the owner is incomprehensible. All new animals in a new home and existing animals should be monitored closely as recommended as we do not know what caused the altercation between the dogs 10 days after adoption. Our dog was fully vetted, healthy and cleared by our vet for adoption so to blame the death of a senior cat on the dog is also not feasible.
