Review for Pound Animal Welfare Society Of Montclair Inc., Montclair, NJ, USA
We fostered, then adopted our awesome Dixie about 6 1/2 yrs ago! We still have a wonderful relationship with PAWS and provide them updates from time to time. PAWS rescues the most vulnerable animals and gives them such love and care! They are meticulous with whom they adopt or foster their animals with. Home checks; Vet requirements...all to make sure the animal is going to be loved and cared for as they deserve to be and have that forever home they need so much. The Staff and volunteers at PAWS are dedicated and committed to the rescue and rehabilitation and medical care and whatever else is needed for a successful outcome! They know how to match families and pets! We admire, respect and love PAWS.
Review for Pound Animal Welfare Society Of Montclair Inc., Montclair, NJ, USA
Without the small Rescue Group, PAWS (Pound Animal Welfare Society of Montclair, Inc)., Dixie would be dead. She would have been euthanized at the Shelter since they cannot and do not take any dog with “Pitbull or Pitbull Mix.” She was emaciated weighing in around 43 lbs. Her “ideal” weight is around 67-72 lbs.. She had high-positive heart worm that need more than one standard treatment to give her a chance of surviving heartworm…but her sweet face touched the PAWS Rescue Group and that same sweet face, posted on “Petfinder” touched the Carmichael family!
The PAWS support system started the day we submitted our application to “foster” Dixie. This small but dynamic group of people stays with adoptive families through thick and thin. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost six years since we first met Dixie. Six years of interacting with PAWS. In the beginning years, we just stayed in touch from time to time with little tidbits and celebrations whenever Dixie made progress. Other years when we just wanted to send photos of how far she’s come and how happy she is! Dixie was “fearful/shut down”. While we most assuredly had the love to give Dixie, we had no experience with caring for a shut-down dog! It takes time and patience and understanding of these issues to successfully rescue and find that perfect match for both the dog and the family. The truth is, we could not have successfully integrated Dixie into our family without these dedicated people guiding and coaching me and our family. They provided almost 24/7 phone coverage as we needed, e-mails of encouragement, and professional training with behavioral specialists. Dixie has blossomed over the years; she is happy and playful and loves children and other dogs. She will probably always have some “fear” issues, but she has brought so much love and humor and awesomeness into our lives, we cannot image life without her!
Over the years, I’ve often wished/hoped/dreamed of being able to show my love and appreciation to PAWS for the unending commitment they have to the animals they rescue. Dixie was one of many, many animals PAWS not only nourished, but then nurtured them so they could find their “forever home.” Each animal with PAWS is treated like a royal treasure; only the best human need apply! Be ready for a thorough home check! PAWS has unique and devoted volunteers and staff support. PAWS rescues animals literally at death’s door, and that is a beautiful thing to be a part of.
It is a privilege to bring PAWS into the spotlight they so truly deserve. It is a privilege to be able to tell their story from my perspective. They rescue animals no one else wants or cares about - Animals that are sick, abused, abandoned and thrown away by society. They are true friends to all animals! They become true friends to their adopters and foster families, as well.
Their relationships with their animals and to their adopters can be summed up by the following quote: ““Friendship isn’t about who you’ve known the longest, it’s about who walked in to your life, said ‘I’m here for you’ and PROVED it.” Unknown
