I was blessed to be a part owner of Classico , a race horse. He always tried and never gave up. He survived the San Luis Rey fire in 2017. 23 starts, 6 1st places and $122,000 of earnings. Most of which was earned in Southern California. Then he was claimed, had new owners, and ended up in Ohio where he became injured. Injured race horses and unwanted horses unfortunately end up in slaughter. Slaughter is banned in the US , so horses are shipped in terrible conditions to Mexico and Canada where horse slaughter is allowed.

I got Classico back as soon as I knew he was hurt and shipped him back to California where he received medical attention. I always wanted a horse and now I had one. 50 years too late. I had to find him a place where he could have a second career with people who are experienced with horses.

I formerly placed Classico into an adoption program with CARMA who found his forever home with Hope for Horses.

I’m so touched with how he is loved and respected by Hope for Horses. I can sleep at night knowing he’s safe. I was able to visit him. I saw the other horses that live at their farm. It’s a lot of work to keep them fed, busy and taken care of. I admire Anita’s energy and passion to make sure all the horses are well attended to. Hope for Horses does important work to take in horses and prevent them from ending up in not so good places. Plus Hope for Horses provides opportunities for young people to learn horsemanship and responsibility. It’s touching to know Classico is impacting kids’ lives in such a positive way.
