I am a donor and a volunteer for Catholic Relief Services (CRS). I am also a former employee. CRS is a wonderful organization. Most of its revenue is devoted to programing that directly reaches and touches the lives of its beneficiaries. One little story best illustrates what CRS is about. I first went to work for CRS immediately following the devastating tsunami in Indonesia. I remember seeing photos of the basic needs kits CRS was handing out to victims. It contained basic toiletries but also something else caught my eye. It was a little rug and when I inquired I was told that most of those affected were Muslims and this was a prayer rug to serve their spiritual needs. This seemed so loving and caring to me. And it was from an organization that at its heart did not even ascribe to the same religion. CRS was at its heart, however, I would come to learn guided above all else by the principles of social justice embodied in Catholic Social Tradition. CRS is all about 100% service to all members of the human family who are in need. CRS is Top Notch and deserves Top Rating.
